good cuban. we always remembered el siboney from a past visit. it remains a popular restaurant, with a wait on a monday evening around 6:30. there was already bread on the table when they seated us and the service was efficient and friendly. i had the dish i remembered, a palomilla steak cooked medium rare, and it was just like i remembered, very tasty and it was medium rare. most cuban restaurants do not cook the steaks to order, they are too thin to get right, but not el siboney. my wife had the half grilled garlic chicken and found it a bit dry, but it tasted good. she said it was "good, but not great". anyway, it is still a good cuban restaurant, but not the best we have encountered.

based on other reviewers we decided to give it a try.
what a mistake! please don't waste your vacation money on this joint! just because this has over 1000 reviews doesn't mean it's good just means that maybe these other reviewers haven't had cuban food before (as i have read in many reviews) and have nothing to compare it to!
the chicken was dry and the maduros (plantains) were mush (nasty and aren't suppose to be that way!) no flavor very bland. tamale was simply ok.
the waitress seemed disinterested in our table (as it seemed with other reviewers as well...i'm not the only one saying it...needs to take a class in customer service!!)
i have family members that are cuban and this is no where close to real cuban food!
please look elsewhere!

legit cuban. i was born and raise in cuba. i know how to cook very well, my grandma cooks for me on a regular basis and i rarely eat cuban food outside of home. i have been there twice in a week, if that doesn't tell you the food is great i don't know what will. i was skeptical of all the recommendations, nothing is better than what i get at home, but wow was i wrong (don't tell my grandma!) the fried fish was absolute perfection, just like everything else on my plate and plenty to share. the place looks like a house and i do not think anyone in the staff speaks fluent english which makes so much better. the food is definitely better than any cuban food you can get in miami. the prices and portions are breath of fresh air! if you want to taste real cuban sazon this place is a must. =)

good food poor service. our waitress was purely not real interested in serving us. she talked down to us when we asked menu questions, forgot drink orders. she was so rude we decided to take the food to go and was still charged 18% gratuity ? i asked her if she was happy that her attitude caused a customer to leave and she replied yes she was very happy? some of the food we ordered was not given to us in our take out. i spoke to julio who said he was the owner about her attitude, the gratuity and the missing food he said little but offered $10 back. he wasn't at all concerned about her actions must be a relative? if your going talk down to americans like we are dirt should move to miami where it is customary!

solid cuban, sordid wait times. this place is now an official tourist destination, thanks to their absolutely incredible skirt steak plate. it's something i dream about when i'm not in key west... yes, it's really that good.

what's not great is siboney's now a mandatory stop for cruise shippers, tripadvisors and cuban lovers, making this once quiet, in-the-know eatery a bonafide celebrity in old town. an hour wait is nothing these days. often times when biking past siboney on any event, you'll see literally 50 people milling about outside, waiting for a table. it's madness all in the name of meat.

i've converted!. what i found at one time to be sloppy cuban cuisine served on paper plates has now truly turned into the best cuban food in the fl keys. my last meal at siboney was just incredible.

best skirt steak i've ever had. perfectly seasoned.

paper plates?. i don't like eating from throw-away dishes and found the food and atmosphere at siboney to be just crappy.

i don't understand why this place is so popular on the island, but methinks it's a tourist thing. i rarely ever see a local eating there.

great food in an authentic environment.. showed up and the line outside was long. don't be deterred. fast, no frills service. great food. reasonably priced. lots of options. they have american food, but why would you want to come here for that? definitely recommended.

excellent!. just to keep it short: the food here was spectacularly good. i had the lima bean soup (do not pass it up- creamy broth with huge chunks of ham and sausage) and the cuban mixed sandwich. an unusual version, not just ham and roast pork, but slices of other cold cuts - salami, and maybe something else - with lettuce, tomato and mayo. i usually hate the stuff they pile on, but here is was wonderful. the bread is perfect - crackling on the outside, soft, but chewy inside. my wife, though, killed it with the vaca frita. a huge plate loaded with the crispy shreds of beef and browned onions, plus a good portion of yellow rice, a bowl of black beans and an incredible pile of fried platanos, browned and crispy, but sticky and soft, like a wonderful flan. we loved every bite.

high expectations low outcome. i ordered the grilled grouper filet which was plain and dry. it was served with bland yellow rice. the plantains were ok and the black beans were good. the waitress seemed disinterested in our table. we asked for 4 separate checks and we were each charged an 18% gratuity, what's up with that? an automatic tip for someone that didn't really care about us :(
