i was tagging along on my wife's work trip and i needed a break from my self-imposed bratwurst diet. we don't get good thai cuisine in our neighborhood and ee-sane's reviews convinced us to take advantage.
we avoided the standard pad thai fare. instead, we opted for what ee-sane's menu short-hands as "larb," which i think is properly called larb gai. larb gai is a meat salad (in our case, ground pork) that is flavored with shallots, limes, mint and chilis. interest is added by introducing toasted rice that is ground into a course powder, which provides a nice texture. we particularly like southeast asian food because so much of it mixes rustic meat flavors with refreshing, crunchy vegetables, and this dish (and ee-sane's execution) uses that contrasting bright/rustic togreateffect.
we typically share entrees, particularly at asian restaurants, and the portion sizes were adequate for two. we ate for less than $30, having ordered more than our fair share (but skipping alcohol). i'm dinging the place slightly because it lacked ac and i'm from the south where we take that sort of thing for granted.
