i was tagging along on my wife's work trip and i needed a break from my self-imposed bratwurst diet. we don't getgoodthai cuisine in our neighborhood and ee-sane's reviews convinced us to take advantage.

we avoided the standard pad thai fare. instead, we opted for what ee-sane's menu short-hands as "larb," which i think is properly called larb gai. larb gai is a meat salad (in our case, ground pork) that is flavored with shallots, limes, mint and chilis. interest is added by introducing toasted rice that is ground into a course powder, which provides a nice texture. we particularly like southeast asian food because so much of it mixes rustic meat flavors with refreshing, crunchy vegetables, and this dish (and ee-sane's execution) uses that contrasting bright/rustic to great effect.

we typically share entrees, particularly at asian restaurants, and the portion sizes were adequate for two. we ate for less than $30, having ordered more than our fair share (but skipping alcohol). i'm dinging the place slightly because it lacked ac and i'm from the south where we take that sort of thing for granted.

had pad thai and the bf ordered some sort of stir fry dish. he immediately ordered crab ragoon and i ordered the spring rolls yay to the c.r. the spring rolls were rolled really poorly made them hard to eat. i suggested we split an entree because when had two appetizers but him being a big eater didn't want to share we ordered two. the pad thai wasgoodnot the best i've ever had(tommy's thai in denver) but pretty good. his stir fry was prettygoodtoo we had left overs for two days! portions are huge!!!!!

yum!. i love ee sane. their service is, indeed, pretty bad. but the food is so good! i have had cashew delight, pad thai, curry fried rice, basil fried rice, and volcano chicken and it was all pretty much delicious. they also add extra vegetables if you as to your fried rice. it's awesome! it is also quite spicy. butgoodspicy. ordering to go is probably agoodidea.

excellent food...but take it to go!!. this place has great food and a wide selection. as others indicated, be aware of the fact that ee sane's takes spice seriously! that being said, i would strongly advise carrying out. the restaurant always looks messy and the service is very slow.

food isgoodenough to keep me coming back; i just won't be sitting down anytime soon.

best pad thai!. all aroundgoodthai food. i would agree the heat scale is a little off. but after reading the reviews i must be a wimp - i get a #3 and that (to me) is perfect.

spotty service -goodfood.. i live on the same block as this restaurant and have eaten here many, many times. the stories are true... the service is the worst part of this restaurant. i think they like to keep the business in the family and refuse to hire additional employees... so sometimes when it's busy they just don't have the staff to handle it.

anyway, the food is good. the duck is exceptional and i would recommend that, but their curries and spring rolls are also good. i like the volcano chicken okay, but i don't like that it uses onions and broccoli in it. i'd prefer just a lot of cabbage and carrots, personally - and that's what everyone else in the city uses in this dish. they also use a 1-10 scale for spice... and they are the most consistent of any restaurant as far as this goes. i like a lot of spice and i've found that a 6 is a sure thing for me... i occasionally get burned by a 7. i would recommend getting a level or two lower than you think you can handle just to be on the safe side.

the food is good, the service is very spotty. if you call to make a take-out order, they may not answer the phone the first two or three calls. my worst experience was in a blizzard when i walked in to pick up my take-out order, walked home, and opened my food to discover i only got one container of rice when i should've gotten two (one for me, one for my girlfriend). i walked back in the blizzard and let them know i only got one rice - and the girl gave me an attitude about it and said something along the lines of "i really thought i put one in there". she basically said it in a way that accused me of lying to get an extra free rice. i really didn't appreciate it. once again, goodfood, very hit-or-miss service. it's no king and i, but it's very decent - especially if you don't care about the service.

make it a 5. my first time to ee sane i asked the question that any responsible thai diner needs to ask, on his or her first trip to a new thai place. "what's your spice scale?" her reply is, to date, my most favorite thing i've ever heard come out of a waitresses mouth. "our scale is 1 thru 10. and 3 is a medium." apparently, it's an exponential scale. i love my heat so i said 5. it was quite hot, but within my tolerance. i can't imagine who or why anyone would order a 10. but to each their own.

the upside to anygoodthai food is getting taste out of it when you don't drown it in unrelenting heat. i dine often with friends who keep their spice to a minimum, and thus far they've all been pleased with ee sane's flavorful offerings. on top of this the menu is over 100 items and has something for everyone.
