the oysters are so fresh and the chowder is creamy and so flavoursome. ambience is fun as it looks like a pirate ship, but have to say it's pretty pricey for what you get.

loved this place when we visited tassie. we didn't know where to go and we stayed at the grand chancellor and literally walked across the road. love the theme and the decor. i feel like i was on a ship. loved the food. prawns were amazing. best seafood. cocktail was so yummy! the fish was nice but the rice was a little hard in places but overall so yummmm

what a hoot this place is... felt like i had stepped onto the set of 'pirates of the caribbean'. we were hopeful the food would live up to the recommendations we were given and were not disappointed. had the best seafood chowder ever and the scallops for main were sweet and well cooked. had a great, fun evening.

novel fun way to dine especially if you have kids - the kid's meal is fantastic, 4 menu to choose from which comes with choice of juice & ice cream and kids activity pack @ $21.50. my kids (age 5 & 7) gave this place two thumbs up 👍👍. they loved the decor, speed of service, food & the dessert! they settled on a captain's platter which was a decent size.

adults meals - the menu is vast. i settled on the sizzling hotrock seafood mix. what a fun way to eat seafood, bbq your own seafood to your liking. the calamari was the best. the fish, black travella, was too oily tasting for my liking.

i had a great time. the service was quick and we enjoyed the theme of a pirate boat. i would have given it 4 however i thought the price was on the high end for relatively simple food and prevent me from coming back on regular basis.

great theme, shame about the food and prices. was initially charmed by the warm atmosphere and themed interior of the place, ordered a delicious cocktail, but everything after this sadly went downhill. long wait for service from unsmiling waitress, sad and pointless little salad buffet (cold pasta salad type fare), and although the portion sizes are adequate, they're 50% composed of french fries - except for the mussles, the one dish that is supposed to be served by fries (but which was oddly served with bread).
battered fish were slivers of fish loaded with batter, seafood platter consisted of a few skewers of oversalty prawns and fish, mussels were a lovely size but served in a chunky tomato broth not unlike pasta sauce. very disappointing considering the prices - you're essentially paying $30 for a $10 meal here. drunken admiral, why so stingy?

...... having heard stories of the ‘kitsch’ interior and nautical theme, the drunken admiral has never quite risen to the top of our ‘must visit’ list of hobart restaurants. it’s not that we haven’t wanted to go, it’s just that there’s always always been something better on offer. there comes a time though, when the stars align. when fate takes over and there’s a palpable cosmic convergence… that’s right folks, not only had we had run out of restaurants, but we also had an entertainment book voucher burning a hole in our pockets!! bring on the dancing fish and saucy wenches! or was it the other way around…? located on the wharf at historic sullivan’s cove,  the drunken admiral  is the old dame of hobart’s restaurant scene, cat

i so wish i did not just google and instead look at the reviews on zomato. a very interesting decor which i would describe as heavy and overbearing. it is this collection of stuff and has hard square tables and uncomfortable chairs. i get they are trying to make it feel like the inside of a ship but honestly. all of that wood paneling makes for a very loud environment and the place was not even full. the staff were nice but the whole process felt like it was rushed they wanted you seated, eating and then out. the chowder was the most uninspired chowder i have had in hobart and the fish and chips were like barnacle bills served on a plate. wine list was quiet good. definitely much better seafood restaurant alternatives available in beautiful hobart.

i love themed restaurants - drunken admiral fits that criteria. the whole restaurant is filled with nautical themes. the menu is pretty comprehensive including mixed selections allowing individuals to try a bit of each seafood. prices weren't the cheapest but good experience overall.

went here due to the high score diners have given this place on zomato. unfortunately we didn’t have an enjoyable meal. had grilled seafood that came on skewers on a sizzling plate. paper bibs were supplied as it was explained that the sizzling plate might cause splattering. there was no problem with that. bibs were taken off as we felt a little silly. calamari, scallops and salmon were only just ok. i think mainly due to the continuing cooking that occurs on the sizzling plate so that a lot of it was over cooked by the time i ate it. unexciting salad and chips accompanied the seafood. quirky and novel maritime theme interior. staff were the best thing about this place! such a shame considering the abundance of high quality seafood in tassie! i’m sure kids would thoroughly enjoy the experience though.

my hubby loved the novelty decor, the entrees and steak were pretty good, however the very fishy tasting prawn pasta and the stuff ups with the order and bill left a bit to be desired. also very pricey for what we had.

we couldn’t get a booking till 8.30 so we rocked up at 7ish and were able to get a walk in table. it’s very packed and has interesting decor! our favourite was the seafood chowder which had chunks of various seafoods and had a great creamy flavour. the bread loaf was amazing, crispy warm and fresh and the butter/ghee was garlic flavoured and tasted divine! grilled seafood plate was okay, came with 8 skewers. the squid was perfect and not chewy, the scallop and prawns were ok. nothing special, just get the chowder

first time been to hobart and i heard this is one of the must try restaurant at water front. after visiting this restaurant we feel discriminated! the staff put us into a corner table which literally no one around us all because we are asian. the table was dark and i can't even see my food. they might think all asian are carrier and will bring them coronavirus...we would have given 5 stars if we did not receive this bad service. we will definately not recommended this restaurant to anyone especially to our asian friends. btw, we are from melbourne, not from oversea.
