must get: seafood chowder (the amount of seafood given is a lot)
we had the fish pot and the grilled skewers as well, but they weren't something that we would return for. the fish pot had lots of fish and seafood in it though. the interior decor is highly creative and detailed throughout with a 10/10.

the signature seafood chowder was congealed, lukewarm and drowned in a floury pasty white sauce. the seafood, whatever it was, had ben cooked to oblivion.

my husband & i had dinner here & we're disappointed as it was recommended as amazing seafood & it was all battered, tasted plain, chips were cold & overpriced 👎
i would call it glorified fish & chips !!

i was really tempted to make a booking at aloft. it was relatively new and recommended/anticipated in a few online readings. the location at the end of a pier and the asian-inspired menu appealed, but it seemed to not have much in the way of one thing i was looking for - tasmanian seafood. looking for specialty seafood restaurants in hobart was surprisingly difficult. other than a few chinese restaurants, a load of fish and chips and mako fresh fish store, not much really showed up. drunken admiral was recommended to me by the hairdresser at just cuts (of all places) and i'm glad she did, because i was at a loss up until that point.

really cool restaurant, love the theme! great portion sizing, fish is good . recommend for fish lovers, cocked in a simple but tasty. there is a board with a fish of day, and you can chose they way you like it cooked: fried, buttered or grilled . chips sides are very generous, service is very good and fast.

fried & disappointing is how i would sum this place up. if you want modern seafood meals then don't go here. majority of the menu is deep fried &/or crumbed and served with boring accompaniments. the seafood is more ruined than celebrated & we were left feeling pretty disappointed. on a positive note- the staff were really friendly & attentive and we enjoyed the music that they were playing (triple j hottest 100 songs). they probably do cater well to the majority of their customers tastes though- retiree groups. i wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone either.

the staff were delightful and the food was fantastic! a must try when in tassie. their scallops stone grill was great, absolutely delicious! highly recommended. seafood was very fresh when we went there also.

did i do the unthinkable and rated a restaurant 5/5?! but there was no fault to pick here!
from beginning to the end, everything was impeccable! the services were excellent, staff highly attentive to our whims despite the packed restaurant.
food arrived in speedy fashion and was delicious! we had the chowder, fried scallops, the tasting plate and the seafood pot. everything on the tasting plate was fresh and delicious.
the chowder was creamy and warmed our bellies and the seafood pot was just and excellent mixture of texture and flavour.
we didn't enjoy the fried scallop that much but we've written to that off to too much fried food in hobart.
do yourself a favour, make a booking and visit!!!

first meal in tassie... very impressed! loved the atmosphere! every section of the restaurant is a piece of artwork. the food was very fresh! the smoked oyster and fish market chowder was most remarkable! very old school and fresh... good start for our trip!

the drunken admiral. we were!! great service and really nice meals. had the 'depth charger' for starters - four jalapeno chillies stuffed with.....something - nice. seafood platter for two for mains; a dozenreally well cooked, salty king prawns, a dozen fresh oysters, smoked salmon and a variety of fried scollops, fish and bits. i would have loved some lobster and crab but never these days.... but fresh seafood, well cooked and beer - what more could you ask for?

wow, great value - seafood platter was huge and so delicious, great mix of seafood. fish and chips was very nice, used very good fish which made a difference, and the chips were plentiful. decor is fun and kitsch, only thing preventing a 5 star was the size of the table - quite small given the serving sizes. otherwise wonderful

sitting right on the harbour front with an old fashioned rustic appeal about it drunken admiral will be sure to impress any drunken sailor! am a sucker for seafood chowder & they do a pretty good one here, chock full of chunky seafood & not overcooked. loved the atmosphere of the place with all it's quirks & the service was great

came for dinner and was luckily seated quickly but had to eat by a hours time because the table was booked for later on. not sure if this had anything to do with the fast service. tried the fish market chowder and it was very good. plenty of seafood pieces in there.
port starboard was very nice,everything tastes better than it should,the octopus was not chewy,the marinate for each piece of seafood was great.
mixed grill was surprising,it was sizzling on a hot plate, a skewer of fish,scallops and prawns. it was almost like the grit gave it this nice flavour. the best part was the tomato relish which tasted like mcdonald's curry for the chicken nuggets,love that taste. service was good,like the tacky decor and it makes the place more interesting. like some other reviewers its a bit pricy but this is the only issue. tasmanian seafood is great!

ordered the hot rock salmon and the yachties seafood mixed grill and i chose well, the flavours were simple and delicious. both were served on a sizzling hot platter which cooked them perfectly and meant they stayed hot to the last bite. a bit disappointed to be seated in a tiny enclosed cubicle with no view of the restaurant. more suited to a young couple on a romantic date than a pair of middle aged tourists.

must have the seafood chowder it is the best thing on the menu! the only criticism is that it's too expensive by a little, the atmosphere is fantastic and so is the staff. it's a great night out!
