it must be the drinks!. all is not horriblybadhere. the tortilla soup very good; however, el charrito's is better. the problem is that the food(that i have been served) is bland. some say, "it's not possible for mexican food to be bland." i say go try dos salsa; compared to other mexican restaurants, it is bland.
the soup was not overly salted and i appreciate that, there were many good flavors from the chicken and vegetables, as well as the avocado. the mole needs some work(but is is much better than sierra's or la playa's). it was not too thin like some, and they serve enough of it to cover the chicken, the flavor is too sweet(on my visit anyway). i've also had pork with red pepper sauce, this was the worst offender on the blandness scale. i actually thought this dish would have more flavor than all the others i'd had in the past. i don't know how they did it, but it was almost tasteless. i don't mean to say that i need it spicy, salty, sweet, or anything in particular, just some kind of flavor. lastly, what really earned the review today, is that every time i've been, the rice is clumpy.
i've been to them all, for what it's worth, and that's not much considering the overwhelming satisfaction for this place, i recommend los dos hermanos, on leander rd. i mention it b/c it is not even listed on urbanspoon. compare them for yourself, the mole is spicier over at hermanos though, fyi.
