first meal while visiting melbourne.
little italian grub to warm the soul and treat the jet lag.

started off with some assorted deli meats & cheese. could've eaten two plates of the meats, so delicious.

then we went onto the classic lasagna: hand made pasta, layered with seasoned beef and tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, little parmesan, and side of bread (that was really not needed.)
finished it off with a italian orange soda.

fantastic meal to start of myfoodjourney in melbourne,foodcapital of australia.

if you're getting a hankering for some down home italian food, look no further.
it is a bit pricy, but we both left happy & full.

it's really hard to work out how doc deli shifts anyfoodat all with the supremely crappy attitude they mete out to browbeaten customers. i ended up walking away the first time i came here for a sandwich because the person behind the counter couldn't be bothered acknowledging me - only the people who came in after - but i ended up coming back for a second. this time the guy behind the counter was fine, but the absolutely pathetic excuse of a hospitality staff member behind the till was dreadful. i love feeling like i'm inconveniencing someone by paying for thefoodi've just ordered. don't worry, i won't put you through the torture again. bye!

i went here after the end of final exam and enjoy pasta and the pastry are so worth it. no complain about thefoodespecially the black pasta of squid, interesting taste. the service lady can use a smile once though.

absolutely love this deli in particular the number 11 sandwich.foodhere is always fresh, tasty and of high quality. the service is always good and fast and it’s great priced

one of the authentic italian pasta in melbourne. i went there with my italian friend, she’s sooo satisfied with thefoodandshesaid she feels like home. the portion was big, parpadelle is the best for me. these three are parpadelle, black linguine, and the pasta of the day

thefoodwas nice. no complaints there. but to my disgust, after asking for a doggy bag the waiter no issue took the plate away and then returned. the waiter reached out to hand the bag to my wife, pulled the bag back out of reach and then handed it to her. this is an act/ joke you do with a 5 year old child. done to an female adult is incredible misogynistic, arrogant and down right pathetic. i was genuinely taken aback by this. watching him walk off with a smug looked on his face was absolutely infuriating. i don’t know who you are, but sir you are an absolute pig of a man who does not respect women. and in these current time, you deserve to be called out. disgrace

doc delocatessen sits next to what used to be carlton espresso. the place is perfect for lygon street, with plenty of italian foods, drinks and of course coffee. the coffee is decent, though obviously very espresso focused.foodis on the expensive and small portion side. i've never thought it's really worth the price here in terms of quality, service or atmosphere to dine. seriously, the waiters are not very professional or good at what they do so it's lucky that the chefs & baristas know how to do what they do well. what i do like here is to have a glass of wine or campari / aperol spritz and people watch with friends. you can also pickup lots of italian deli goods to take home or give as gifts. the deli looks quite nice.

i went for lunch ( an eggplant lasagna and a san daniele prosciutto foccaccia) and left with a bag full of sensational goodies from the deli -that i did not need but could not resist - nduja, provolone, pork and fennel sausages, cacciatore. foodwas spot on, coffee was excellent and service prompt.

i travel across town for the coffee here. it's a great place to read and get a great coffee. there's always so much going on. thefoodhas always been great but the meat and cheese boards from the deli are a bit costly for the size.

don't you hate it when a lecturer is so boring and it makes the most interesting content unbearable? i used to hate wednesdays because of this, since i picked out the subject based on the false belief that the content would be super intriguing, i mean okay, the readings are pretty dry and that's not the lecturer's fault, but a good lecturer really makes all the difference. so glad i switched out of that subject. but anyway, this long rant introduction does have a purpose - a few weeks ago, after a bad wednesday, i was lucky enough to be invited to another zomato meetup at d.o.c delicatessen, and thefoodwas good enough to turn my day around!

i make no secret of the fact that i love everything doc has to offer, so when i was invited to a zomato meet up at their carlton delicatessen, i jumped at the opportunity. coming from a very traditional italian family, i’ve been spoilt with greatfoodmy entire life, however i’ve often struggled to find the same quality in restaurants. doc is most definitely the exception to this. offering authentic and simple yet contemporary italian food, this quickly expanding group are setting the standard for italian cuisine in this city.

terrible food! bad service..... terrible food!
bad service.
i pay 50 dollar for myfoodwhich cost 28 dollar but they don't give back the change!
the worst part is their service!
they claim that i will be impressed by their food.
indeed, i'm impressed by their miserable service and weird tastes food!
do not ever come to this restaurant!

i am happy to report i did not experience any of the racial shenanigans mentioned in previous reviews- i was expecting to be chased out with half a stick of kabana or something seeing the only bit of me that is italian is last nights lasagne... the staff were attentive & pleasant & thefoodis amazing- i will definitely be back for more! ciabatta rolls with simple but tasty toppings were a pleasure for lunch, sausages & organic potatoes made for an amazing dinner for this little vegemite!

try hard. go to king and godfey across the road.
you can get the same products without the attitude and spend less.

this is the country road offoodretailing.
belongs in hawthorn or armadale.

spare me with the cheap little mortadella rolls
