first meal while visiting melbourne.
little italian grub to warm the soul and treat the jet lag.

started off with some assorteddelimeats & cheese. could've eaten two plates of the meats, so delicious.

then we went onto the classic lasagna: hand made pasta, layered with seasoned beef and tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, little parmesan, and side of bread (that was really not needed.)
finished it off with a italian orange soda.

fantastic meal to start of my food journey in melbourne, food capital of australia.

if you're getting a hankering for some down home italian food, look no further.
it is a bit pricy, but we both left happy & full.

authentic and delicious. as chilly as it was the day we went for lunch most tables outside were full and with good reason ..

the kitchen kindly made a spaghetti olio which was delicious. generous serve.
cold bowl was a shame as pasta did get cold quite quickly which was a shame and the 1 little piece of bread was hard not crusty which was a shame as wanted to mop of the oil & chilli.

friendly staff who were helpful especially as my dining partner got his pasta (and eaten) before my arrived as apparently the italian speaking kitchen was unable to discern the difference between 'olio- daily special' but all good....

take extra $$ to take home from thedeliwhich is replete with mouth watering cholesterol ridden salamis, hams and cheeses...not cheap but worth the money.

it's really hard to work out how docdelishifts any food at all with the supremely crappy attitude they mete out to browbeaten customers. i ended up walking away the first time i came here for a sandwich because the person behind the counter couldn't be bothered acknowledging me - only the people who came in after - but i ended up coming back for a second. this time the guy behind the counter was fine, but the absolutely pathetic excuse of a hospitality staff member behind the till was dreadful. i love feeling like i'm inconveniencing someone by paying for the food i've just ordered. don't worry, i won't put you through the torture again. bye!

i purchased some italian pork sausages from theirdeli& they were not good at all. the sausages had a very strange flavour & odour, which comes from boar taint. the smell & taste was so offensive that it smelled like urine, which means they use low quality pork in their sausages. they were also quite bland & did not have that distinguishable italian taste. we fed the sausages to our dog, they just could not be enjoyed because of the boar taint.

absolutely love thisdeliin particular the number 11 sandwich. food here is always fresh, tasty and of high quality. the service is always good and fast and it’s great priced

doc delocatessen sits next to what used to be carlton espresso. the place is perfect for lygon street, with plenty of italian foods, drinks and of course coffee. the coffee is decent, though obviously very espresso focused. food is on the expensive and small portion side. i've never thought it's really worth the price here in terms of quality, service or atmosphere to dine. seriously, the waiters are not very professional or good at what they do so it's lucky that the chefs & baristas know how to do what they do well. what i do like here is to have a glass of wine or campari / aperol spritz and people watch with friends. you can also pickup lots of italiandeligoods to take home or give as gifts. thedelilooks quite nice.

i went for lunch ( an eggplant lasagna and a san daniele prosciutto foccaccia) and left with a bag full of sensational goodies from thedeli-that i did not need but could not resist - nduja, provolone, pork and fennel sausages, cacciatore. food was spot on, coffee was excellent and service prompt.

i travel across town for the coffee here. it's a great place to read and get a great coffee. there's always so much going on. the food has always been great but the meat and cheese boards from thedeliare a bit costly for the size.

porchetta. was at thedelicounter when i noticed that porchetta rolls were on offer i couldn't resist i had to try one. must admit it...fantastic!
