first meal while visiting melbourne.
little italian grub to warm the soul and treat the jet lag.

started off with some assorted deli meats & cheese. could've eaten two plates of the meats, so delicious.

then we went onto the classic lasagna: hand made pasta, layered with seasoned beef and tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, little parmesan, and side of bread (that was really not needed.)
finished it off with a italian orange soda.

fantastic meal to start of my food journey in melbourne, food capital of australia.

if you're getting a hankering for some down home italian food, look no further.
it is a bit pricy, but we both left happy & full.

i order their pasta of the day, black and white pasta with calamari. their pasta is homemade and its texture is really unique. the dish was really yummy! i will definitely go back and try a different pasta dish.

authentic and delicious. as chilly as it was the day we went for lunch most tables outside were full and with good reason ..

the kitchen kindly made a spaghetti olio which was delicious. generous serve.
cold bowl was a shame as pasta did get cold quite quickly which was a shame and the 1 little piece of bread was hard not crusty which was a shame as wanted to mop of the oil & chilli.

friendly staff who were helpful especially as my dining partner got his pasta (and eaten) before my arrived as apparently the italian speaking kitchen was unable to discern the difference between 'olio- daily special' but all good....

take extra $$ to take home from the deli which is replete with mouth watering cholesterol ridden salamis, hams and cheeses...not cheap but worth the money.

i felt as if the people who worked there wanted to get me and my friend to finish our dinner as soon as possible, thus they asked us too many times (might have been because of poor communication between the staff) if we had already decided on what to eat. in the end, i chose the lasagne, which i would not recommend, to be honest. i really love lasagnes but this one was just too simple, there was not even a crusty cheese layer on top, let alone any cheese at all! it was a quite boring lasagna without much flavour. so i would not go for this dish. my friend luckily had a nice pasta, the rigatoni con farro.

super fresh and high quality produce with a smile! perfect addition to stop by before any sort of picnic or to create your own little cheese board.

we had a quick breakfast at doc delicatessen on lygon. we have an avocado bruschetta and a tomato cheese piadina nicely toasted. lovely sitting outside and the masses of lycra wearing cyclists had just left which gave us plenty of room. service wise a little clunky with coffee order being wrong and having to be reordered. this was most likely due to our waiting staff members basic english skills and difficulty speaking and comprehend australian english. while accented staff add a little to the authenticity of these venues i have found this can be at the expense of good service and that was the case at doc this morning.

the veal and asparagus pasta dish was totally lacking in any flavour. very bland. chilli or even some onion flavour would’ve helped

it's really hard to work out how doc deli shifts any food at all with the supremely crappy attitude they mete out to browbeaten customers. i ended up walking away the first time i came here for a sandwich because the person behind the counter couldn't be bothered acknowledging me - only the people who came in after - but i ended up coming back for a second. this time the guy behind the counter was fine, but the absolutely pathetic excuse of a hospitality staff member behind the till was dreadful. i love feeling like i'm inconveniencing someone by paying for the food i've just ordered. don't worry, i won't put you through the torture again. bye!

staff were racist. was waiting in line for 10 minutes and a lady cut in line, but staff served her anyway. we made the contact and he knows that i'm next in line. when he's done serving her, he went to serve another customer who just came into the store. luckily the customer pointed out that i was clearly next in line, then only did the staff grumpily served me.

i purchased some italian pork sausages from their deli & they were not good at all. the sausages had a very strange flavour & odour, which comes from boar taint. the smell & taste was so offensive that it smelled like urine, which means they use low quality pork in their sausages. they were also quite bland & did not have that distinguishable italian taste. we fed the sausages to our dog, they just could not be enjoyed because of the boar taint.

ive been to all the doc chains on lygon and love them all, this is the place where i go to buy all my italian meats and cheese, love sitting out here and enjoying a fresh antipasto board too!

i went here after the end of final exam and enjoy pasta and the pastry are so worth it. no complain about the food especially the black pasta of squid, interesting taste. the service lady can use a smile once though.

absolutely love this deli in particular the number 11 sandwich. food here is always fresh, tasty and of high quality. the service is always good and fast and it’s great priced

one of the authentic italian pasta in melbourne. i went there with my italian friend, she’s sooo satisfied with the food andshesaid she feels like home. the portion was big, parpadelle is the best for me. these three are parpadelle, black linguine, and the pasta of the day
