authentic southern food with a wonderful atmosphere. this is a wonderfulplaceto eat lunch on a saturday afternoon. there is ample parking surrounding the area of plaza and midwood so that will not be an issue.
foodwise, everything was right on target. when i saw collard dip on the menu, i was extremely skeptical, but our friendly waitress told us that it was similar to spinach and artichoke dip so we delved on in. basically, i will go out of my way to say it is probably in my top five favorite appetizers of all time. you get your choice of pita bread or tortilla chips... go with the pita.
for my meal, i went with the black grilled chicken with grits and macaroni and cheese as a side. with all entrees, a deviled egg and biscuit are served as well. the mac and cheese and grits were typical of a good restaurant, except the prices were way more affordable. the deviled eggs tasted amazing with hints of paprika and mustard in the hard boiled egg. the chicken was the highlight by far though. it was topped with a black-eyed pea and corn salsa and really well marinated to where it remained flavorful and moist. the biscuit was also a great surprise with a sweet sugar-like topping on it.
my fiancee went with the grilled pimento cheese sandwich with deviled eggs. i only got to try a taste of the sandwich, but i was amazed with the consistency of the bread and melted cheese throughout it. i mean, there aren't many ways to judge a grilled cheese other than being done right or wrong.
the portions were amazing for dishes that were both under $10. so if you're hungry and want a fresh taste of southern cuisine, thisplaceis one you will want to visit.
