dewey destin's seafood

one of best places ever!. had the boiled shrimp with corn and potatoes. it was sooooo good. dolphins beside seadoos in the bay were great entertainment while eating. i love the old shack atmosphere right on the water. locals said there was none like it and i believe them. the people sitting next to us had friedfishand they were raving also.

we just had the best lunch at dewey's. our family sat out on the deck overlooking the harbor and ate some delicious, fresh seafood while watching the boats come and go. this isn't a fancy place so don't come expecting high dining, but it is casual, tasty and has great views. freshfishright off the boat? doesn't get better than this and it was a great last stop before heading home from vacation. also, the service was great and prompt. we will definitely stop here if ever in destin again.

we chose dewey's dockside because the traffic in destin was bumper to bumper and we were hungry, and dewey's was a block away from where we got stuck. this is an old timefishhouse. i don't think that we got the best service, but we went for an easy lunch and did not require a lot of attention. we are in love with grouper which we can't get at home in new orleans. both of us ordered it fried on a sandwich, but you have a choice with how you want it prepared. the default side is fries, and we probably would have ordered a different side if had been offered. i thought the sandwich was very tasty. it was a sizeable portion that was extreemly satisfying. we were able to sit outside and enjoy the harbor view.

we went here to lunch for today.  we were expecting a lunch menu (their website has one) so when we sat down and did not see one, i knew we were about to drop some money.  the so got friedfish(i believe it was mahi mahi), the little one got fried shrimp, and i got the pecan crusted grouper.  the pecan crusted grouper itself was really, really good.  the corn and the potatoes that came with it were really bland with no flavor whatsoever.  the so's friedfishwas really dry and the fries she had were so-so.  the hush puppies are really, really good.we sat in the upper deck which has a very good view of the bay.  

overall, we ended up spending $65 for lunch because no lunch menu was provided. unfortunately, we won't be coming back during the rest of our stay.

touristy, overpriced and very average!. had dinner last night at dewey's. it was the first time for us but had heard it mentioned by several people. we waited 90 minutes on a thursday night at 8:00. we ordered off of their freshfishmenu. it was a long wait for the food and it was just ok. i had the grouper @ $27 - i found it overpriced for what you get and mine was overcooked. also for a meal at that price i would expect homemade sides. i got crinkle cut cheap fries and cole slaw that tasted old. everyone at the table felt the same way. too touristy and overpriced!!! not worth the wait at all!!

i ate here last year and had the grouper parmesan. it was very yummy. so we decided to eat there this year. let me tell you what happened tonigt and why i will not be going back. they brought out my husbands plate which was grilled shrimp and grilledfishwith fries and hush puppies. i'm sorry, but for twenty dollars a plate or more they can have better fries and puppies than from the local frozen food section. then i received my plate. i tried cutting into it and couldn't. i cookfisha lot and knew it should flake apart. i could to even cut it with a knife. so i scraped the parmesan off, and thefishwas completely raw. when i told our waiter about it, he took it back to the kitchen. he came back saying he could give us a piece of key lime pie on the house. wow. a thirty dollar plate of food is sent out completely raw and you give me a slice of frozen pie? i'm sorry but it was awful. our bill was 73 dollars and i felt sick trying to eat thefishthat came back out. now my husband and i are ordering a pizza because we are both still hungry. don't be fooled by the large amount of people here. they are known for fried food. a lot of imperfections can be covered up by fried batter.

great food, view, and service. yes it's a bit costly, have u pricedfishat destin ice across the street. grouper, tuna, & cobia over $20 per pound. so it's not rare for good, fresh seafood to be expensive. there are cheaper places serving previously frozen imported seafood. best hush puppies and blackening seasoning in destin.

stick with the simple/cheap menu items. this place is afishshack (both locations) -- which means friedfishor shrimp, french fries, cole slaw andfishor shrimp sandwiches. stick with that and you'll get good food for a good price. i don't know why they feel the need to offer "fancier" items, but none of the locals order that kind of thing because the cooks (not chefs) are fry cooks. i've had many tasty sandwiches and baskets here and will again. just go somewhere else for fine food and you won't be disappointed.

diners from louisiana. horrible.. we left there disgusted by the food and more disgusted by what we just paid for it! we ordered the hot crab dip to start.. very mediocre and served with ritz crackers! .. for 10 bucks! then the waiter suggested we order the grouper and the snapper and then split them.. i am pretty sure he gave an eyeroll when we mentioned ordering the mahi. but,, we went along with his suggestion instead. we were both served a piece of grilledfishwith some very weird sweet sauce on it.. with 3 new potatoes and half an ear of corn. there was no reason to share ourfishbecause i am 99% sure he brought us both the same thing.. it was our fault for not questioning or sending it back.. but i believe we were a bit shocked by the plates that were put in front of us for 28 bucks! i also found it very odd that our very opinionated and talkative waiter didn't ask us how we felt about the food,, i believe he knew that our order was wrong and didn't feel the need to correct it. i would never go back to this place!!.. if i want some sort of whitefishin a weird sauce i would rather go to a chinese buffet. this place sucked and i hate that our one splurge meal while we were in destin was totally wasted here.
our meal, with tip, was about 82.00. this was for the twofishmeals and my son's child shrimp basket, the crab dip and we all drank water.

excellent service not good food. went there for the first time 4/21/14 ordered grouper with crab. the crab was full of shells and the waiter took it back the chef told her what do you expect it is fresh. she got me another grouper dish with shrimp but either plate was not grouper. looked like whitefishand did not taste at all like grouper it was a very thin piece of fish. the gumbo was very good and so was the slaw and hush puppies the waiter daisy was one of the best.

dewey destin's. had lunch today 2/27/14 . paid extra for grouper. didn't tast like any grouper i ever ate. tasted more like cheap white fish. the shrimp had no flavor. the batter on the scallops fell off and they were not done. last year we ate there and the shrimp tasted like bleach. bleach is what they clean thefishtanks out with on the shrimp boats. i know twice burned. will not eat there again. over rated.

good for the area. the restaurants in this area are monotonous. you see the same tired menus, packed full of seafood cooked one way: fried. i thought dewey destin's was a bit higher quality than most of the other places i went. the lunch menu is affordable for the area. i got the seafood gumbo which had great flavor and spice and was the best dish at the table. you have to option of ordering their freshly caughtfishin a sandwich for half the price at lunch. thefishhad good flavor that was not suffocated by over reading and overflying. the bloody mary's are great here as well. skip the salads here though. it's not what they do and the veggies are very poor quality. i'll add that the service was good here. all in all it was one of the better places i ate.

decent location, typical friedfishtype restaurant. not a ton of options for someone seeking a healthy meal so we just went for the gold and tried to infamous fried shrimp platter. the shrimp were big and the coleslaw, potatoes and corn were good. if you're wanting a waterfront restaurant experience with decent food this isn't a bad option.

don't order the mahi or anything that just says "fish" on the menu. the waiter informed us that none of their mahi is fresh, it's frozen. you don't go to a seafood place on the ocean for frozen fish!
