uninspired, unimpressed. dont biscuits made with bits of bacon and cheese inside, covered in jalapeno country gravy sound gluttonously delicious? throw in a couple of scrambled eggs and some pepper bacon and after placing our order i was off to fantasy land, creating images of what was yet to come on the big screen in my mind. ye olde wife was probably pondering the same, only with a different lineup. accompanied by these thoughts and our red beers, time passed with ease. then the food arrived.
nicole had asked for scrambled eggs instead of poached with her eggs sardou, but the cook fumbled the message, so hers had to go back. as for mine, i was completely underwhelmed by what was in front of me. when i think of a down home, southern meal, i recall the portions being a bit on the absurd side. what lay in front of me was the anti thesis of that: my little pile of eggs, the strips of bacon laying picturesquely beneath them, and a neat little pile of gravy that didnt even cover the entire lid of my biscuits. at this point im thinking "well, this better be some of the best god damn country gravy ive ever had in my life." sadly, it was not. one of the reasons i ordered this dish (it was their special, $9.95) is because jalapenos or green chile are awesome in gravy. the spiciness they provide brings it to another level. unfortunately for me there was zero happening in the heat index department. if there were jalapenos in this gravy there was certainly no evidence of it. the eggs were bland and forgettable. the pepper bacon was the only winner of the group, though that hardly made up for everything else.
my wifes re-do showed up rather quickly and looked pretty good. she though the hollandaise sauce was nice, but nothing exceptional. the only highlight from hersideof the table were the grits, which had cheese in them and were very good. that being said, she was expecting much more from a dish priced at $11.50.
our server was the only other decent thing worth mentioning, he was very good about getting nicole's plate fixed and even took our 2 red beers off the final tab as way of an apology. so at least there was that, but not much else.
grade: c- (if you know whats possible with these 2 dishes, then you can understand how epically delta cafe has failed with them, especially for the money)

one of my favorites in portland. despite living on the far westsideof the portland metro, i find myself on woodstock a few times a year and for one purpose; to eat at delta cafe. sure the wait staff has a little more character than most people are used to, but that just makes the experience all that much better.

ooh' boy. this place has the best cajun food i've eaten in the portland area and probable on the westsideof the state. we had a large rather tasty appetizer of fried oysters. i had some great crawfish etoufee' with my chosensideof cauliflower casserole, while my wife dined on a succulent ribeye smothered in onions and mushrooms with her two chosen sides of greens and mac-n-cheese. the portions are large (not requiring any appetizer) and the food is spiced according to your choosing. the sides are scrumptious, but you may have to take them home. the prices seem high until you dig into the pallet-pleasing belly-filling portions. parking is available in back, but the lot is small so you may end up parking on the street. if you like cajun and sothern soul you'll be happy here.
