if you haven't been by the delta cafe in a while come on down. a recent refresh of the interior and outdoor seating has created a lovely oasis from your cares. same great southern comfort food backed up with a creative drink menu. its deliciousness all around.

hello fried okra!. this has been a cash only restaurant for years which can be kind of a pain if you don't roll that way. i have tried many of their menu options but i always go back to olde trusty-chicken fried steak. the lines to get in can be daunting because they are almost always packed. it is so worth the wait. try the fried okra as an appetizer, it is so good. they also make their own infused vodkas and i sampled a couple and they were pretty good, some kind of weird too.

mixed review. i stopped in over the weekend for my birthday dinner. it was pretty quiet and not many people in the restaurant. cute setup. ordered fried catfish, catfish etouffee, and green bean casserole. the fried catfish was right, nawlins style and southern, just how i make it (i'm from florida). it is pretty hard to mess up fried catfish though. the green bean casserole and the catfish etouffee or another story. for some reason this cafe doesn't like to use cream. if you would have added just a bit of cream to the green bean casserole and the catfish etouffee, it would have been world's better. the mushroom soup was too lumpy in the green bean casserole, and should have more of a thinner consistency. the catfish etouffee was loaded with spice, and didn't have that sweet taste from the benefit of adding cream. i am having a really hard time finding a place in portland that does southern food correct, and this might be as close as i can get.

i have been coming to this restaurant for many years, and it is the epitome of a comfort food joint. breakfast, lunch, or dinner. their cocktails are unique and delicious and their collard greens are the best i have had in portland.

excellent food. had the southern fried catfish and it was perfect. the meatloaf is also really good! hush puppies, beans & rice and the potato cheese cassarole were all excellent.

a very casual bar like atmosphere with plastic booths. the service wasn't necessarily bad but it was definitely not attentive. several times we had to flag down our server. the food was just eh. the tofu in the tofu creole was inedible (fried so hard it was hard to bite) although the creole sauce was really good. the corn fritters are just bland hush puppies with a few pieces of corn in them. the mac n cheese was pretty average as well as the hoppin john. if you want food southern creole (well as good as you can get in the pnw

neighborly southern comfort. my husband, family & different friends have dined here many times.. while it's a noisy environment, the food & bar are worth the visit!
their crayfish etouffee, jambalaya & the sides they offer are some of our favorites!

menu change. i haven't been to delta café for quite a long time but i remember that they made a killer fried shrimp po boy. it was my go to item with either the black eyed peas or red potato salad as a side. upon reviewing the latest menu, i see that it is no longer listed! gasp! fortunately i make a pretty mean one myself so next time i go i'll have to get the pulled pork which is pretty good too. didn't they make a sausage po boy a few years back? grade c

poor southern. this was a disappointing visit for four us that wanted to try some good southern cooking. the fried okra was not battered well and was tough. the hush puppies were large and over cooked. my blackened catfish was also overcooked. i would not recommend this for a good southern meal. prices were reasonable.

amazing yet again. had the catfish with crawfish cream sauce. wow. amazing food. got the bill and was shocked at the price. what a value. other than long waits on the main weekend nights, this place is a 10!

brisket hash and bloody mary. bloody mary was by the best i've ever had [spicy, lots of veggies, with a great pepper kick to it - but for the record i don't drink these often]. the brisket hash was good. my only 'complaint' was that the menu said smoked brisket. however the brisket did not taste as though it was smoked. def. had that more slow cooker flavor and texture to it. don't get me wrong, it was very tender, but didn't have that smoked bbq flavor to it. i am def. going back for both brunch and dinner/lunch items as i've heard great things and i was impressed with what we had.
