i visited cutler and co a little while back, but the experience stands out for not so positive reasons. i brought my partner to cutler for his big 30th birthday, expecting great things, and investing a penny to give my dear a great experience. we have frequented degustation / fine dining restaurants in the past also, so we are able to compare data!
at the time, cutler was completing a refurbishment in one section of the restaurant. despite making the booking three months prior, the staff nonetheless seated us in the currently-being-refurbished area. in this area there was a large black curtain sectioning off an area and the lighting was not appropriate (incredibly bright) which was a stark contrast to the moody lighting in the regular area of the restaurant.
i did query whether we could be seated in the regular area which was granted. then, chaos ensued.
the waiter that was assigned to us clearly did not communicate with the kitchen well which meant that courses were coming out when we hadn't even finished the preceding course. i had a fist and mouth full of butter and bread when the first course came out. as soon as i placed the last forkful of the first course in my mouth, before the plate was even cleared, they already brought out the second course. i actually had to direct the wait staff to slow down the pace which is unheard of at a fine dining establishment.
the topic of conversation the entire evening was how disappointed my partner and i were with the experience which was such a let down for a 30th birthday celebration. not to mention the $560 i paid for the evening (2 x chefs selection and matching wines) which should demand a perfect to near perfect experience.
there was no apology from the staff, no complimentary drinks, no care.
i won't be returning and do hope cutler are taking more care with their customers, and also not trying to maximise profits by seating customers in areas that are in process of refurbishment. disappointed.

3.5/5
i’m a bit torn with this one as i was expecting so much from cutler & co and was a bit underwhelmed. the fit out and space is amazing, and the service was fantastic both 10/10, but we just found the food only good, and for the prices your paying you want to be blown away even by a few dishes and we just weren’t.

started with the crab and mackerel which were both nice but i’ve had better elsewhere. for main the suckling pig and hapuka , again both just nice, and 180g of sucking pig for over $50 is way over the top.

the side of potato was so dry and had obviously just been reheated, the side of cauliflower came out stone cold, they took it back and brought out a new one which was still luke warm.

desert was nice and getting a “pre dessert” of passionfruit sorbet was great touch.

if your spending this much i think there is a lot better dining experiences in melbourne.

went here date for a date. the place is really romantic, perfect for a date. great customer service too, top notch service all round.

food is superb. i rarely love fine dining ish food (only few menu that i absolutely love) but...
1. the special butter on the bread was magical
2. the mushroom pithivier! the special sauce on the side made the dish and this is defo my second fav for the night aaaand...
3. first fav: chocolate cake. i score it 12/10. rich dark chocolate flavor 👍 make cake places i went the next day tastes meh (even tho it's rated high on zomato)

they gave out complementary small little dishes after every course (i think, or before) which is a lovely addition for the night. the chocolate truffle was so good!!!

it's been almost a month since we dined here but more importantly, it's a mini achievement for myself knowing that i am able to move on gracefully despite the bumps along the journey. wl's short temper often gets him into trouble but during challenging moments, i am surprised at how well he managed to turn the situation around.

it had been almost 8 years since we were last at cutler & co, so with fond memories of the beautiful food and wine, mil and i decided it was the perfect time to revisit in celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary.

we headed in slightly early so we could grab a drink at the bar.  it is a unique and beautiful space, where you are treated to a view into the open kitchen.  this only heightened our excitement, seeing so many great dishes making their way out into the dining room.  the dining room itself is dark and atmospheric, but really comfortable too.  wide booths that allow for a great view of the space while remaining private spaces, make it the perfect space for a special night out.

given there really are no poor choices, mil and i went with the chef's selection tasting menu with matching wines.  10 odd dishes later, we were well and truly satisfied.  we started with char grilled baby corn, oysters and bonito sashimi.  the wood grilled marron was sweet and smokey, and went perfectly with the heritage tomato salad.  the two main were maple glazed duck and suckling pig.  both perfectly cooked and crispy skinned.

we had spied the cheese trolley while we were in the bar, and i'm so glad we decided to add in the cheese supplement.  four cheeses plus house made crackers and delicious accompaniments were well worth it.  dessert consisted of a small passion fruit sorbet pallet cleanser, followed by a chocolate delice to share and a blueberry vacherin each.  any finally a little chocolate truffle and fruit jelly to finish off the night!

there were so many beautiful wines which accompanied our meal.  each perfectly balanced with the flavours of the dish.  generous pours and some really interesting varieties.

overall an evening that lived up to our memories and expectations.  definitely worth adding to your "special occasion" list, but life is too short to wait so just go here asap!

we were a party of 6 celebrating birthday(s) & ate in the main dining area. comfortable but slightly too dark. food was disappointing. highlight was the bread freshly made & butter. corn starter was very tasty. oysters were from 2 sources and were ok not great. quail were also tasty. mains on our table were duck (looked great but was disappointing)pork (disappointing) & lamb (best of the mains) cheese board was ok not great. wine list was extensive & expensive. overall for a leading restaurant quite disappointing.

seductive ambiance serving elegant farm to table dishes with sophisticated drinks. staff were a little quirky and sometimes slow but we weren’t in a hurry and this added to the unique vibe. pro tip if you are hanging for the 1.1kg steak it takes an hour to cook so we were glad we ordered straight up before we dived into the menu to order starters etc. for a small group, don’t be shy to ask for the cosy booths when you book - perfect for catching up and sharing all the delicious-ness. probably would skip dessert next time for a night cap at one of the many cocktail bars in the area (my fav black pearl).

wow! cutler and co absolutely ticked all the boxes for our family. sunday lunch set menu was divine. the service was impeccable, the ambience is very classy, the drink service - perfect. the food served was simple with an elegant twist at each course! can’t fault the presentation or taste. will definitely be recommending this place to all who enjoy feeling special while dining but not needing to be completely over the top. they were also very accommodating to our vegetarian family members and provided very generous servings to accommodate!

first time to go back to cutler and co since they done the renovations. the new entrance set up is very cool with the cocktails trolley and the mood lighting just right. the cocktail waiter was very helpful and shared with me a couple of his tricks. once we were seated the waiter explained the menu and the specials. we went for the chef selection menu. it didn’t disappoint. every dish was a work of art and tasted amazing. great restaurant for every occasion

i booked a dinner reservation for 5 pax. the restaurant was busy and packed when we got there. the service was friendly and efficient. my family and i decided to go a la carte and share a few dishes. we had the 4 mains, assorted leaves salad and the peaches/granita dessert. my fav main was the grilled hapuka. there was also a palate cleanser and other small dishes provided in between. i also really enjoyed the complimentary bread (the miso butter was good!!) the waiter we had was friendly and attentive, he took the time to apologise when the dessert was slow to arrive. my family and i had a wonderful dinner experience here and i would highly recommend this place. 👍

finally got around to c&c and glad i did! casual, comfortable fine dining with delicious food and attentive service.

not sure how we ended up spending almost 3 hrs for sunday dinner.. there wasn’t a big gap between dishes and we were informed prior duck takes 45 mins (yes, worth it).

had moreton bay bugs and crudo for entree, cappelletti and duck as mains then finished with sorbet and peaches. loved it all! the warm, crusty sourdough is unreal and could happily fill up on that alone. if you mention everything’s shared they’ll plate on two plates too. will be back :)
