pretty disappointed overall. food was ok, nothing special. the strawberry and cream dessert was embarrassing. the worst thing though was being seated in a soulless back room with one other table. the space felt like an empty reception centre. couldn’t wait to leave in the end. oh, and it’s expensive as well.

love, love, love everything about cutler and co. we had our work christmas lunch here (2 years in a row) in the private dining room. the food and wine is fabulous and delicious and the service is amazing.

honestly such a devine experience shared with friends! from walking in and passing an open kitchen, to be seated in a warehouse type setting and having our coats and bags taken away for us was already the beginning of a great night ahead of us!
six hungry girls and having no clue what to choose from on the menu, our waiter was so kind to tell us that they were happy to modify and customise the menu to be able to try everything we were thinking of and have it served in shared portions, a winner in itself!

my favourite main would definitely have to be the suckling pig. that crispy skin had the perfect crunch, and wasn’t too thick so we didn’t have the issue of chewing for very long with no layer of fat to bite through. like the meat of the pork, i was also impressed with the lamb loin because it was just cooked to melt in your mouth!
the only thing i wouldn’t go for again would be the layered potato cake. was interesting to try but i think we just expected too much and our taste buds just yelled out average.

for dessert i would recommend everything! our favourite as a group would definitely have to be the passion fruit sorbet, we were literally scraping the bottom of the cups just hoping for more because how could something be so- perfect?! it was almost as if we were having a slices icypole in a bowl after tasting the vanilla bean ice cream on the bottom layer! second to this would have to be the chocolate delicè and i think this was just beautiful finisher to a lovely dinner.

the service, food, and ambience all hit high notes and all i can say is that i can’t get it off my mind!

amazing experience! we came in a group of 6 and the staff were able to cater for our needs just to make our dining experience comfortable!
the staff were excellent and very attentive!
our food was great! really enjoyed the pork and the mushroom dish.
did not really enjoy the shared steak as much with the condiments.
big highlight was the compliment raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice cream in those passion fruit cups! that was tasty!
definitely a great fine dining experience.
atmosphere was outstanding!
take your lover, friends and family here for a great fine dining experience.

the best dining experience i've had in melbourne this year!  the food is sublime!   i loved the cobia crudo, a refreshing combination of flavours, accentuating the freshness of the fish.  the miso butter accompanying the sourdough bread was to die for! definitely leave enough room for dessert - go the pineapple vacherin!  the staff were super professional, extremely knowledgeable and very friendly - everything was on point!  could not have been any better, and i can't wait to return.

tbh very disappointed about the food tonight i had with them, heard a lot of good things about them and the ratings for the restaurant seems positively high so i thought it must be a no brainer. turns out the only food that i’m happy with were the bread and passionfruit sorbet which both are complimentary served...
customer service was not too bad, and the vibe at the restaurant was quite good, but the seating was not that comfortable to me, had to sit at the small round table in the middle of the restaurant instead of leather sofa seats on the side.
ordered oysters, zucchini flowers and roast partridge for entree. oysters tasted below average, and both of the other two dishes were bit too salty without any outstanding taste.
for main, i had the snapper and suckling pig, and these dishes just totally turned me down. it’s rather sad because i could tell the ingredients they used were so great but there’s no complexity in flavour and they tasted like any affordable chinese cooking.
not a dessert person, but for the pricepoint i paid, not impressed either.

cutler & co is one of andrew mcconnell’s restaurants, also famous for cumulus. it’s been around for a while but the renovation is fairly recent. we loved it: a big nyc warehouse feel. we opted for the chef’s selection, six courses for $150, though we didn’t do the wine pairing.

was lucky enough to dine here last night, and had a wonderful experience! went with the chef’s selection and my partner and i were impressed by each and every single dish (of course including the bread)! it is a beautiful, huge space that is sleek, sophisticated and modern. the first thing you see when you enter is the open kitchen, which was fun to see.
we were seated at a lovely alcove/booth with leather seats, and a candle was lit as we sat.
all the waiting staff were attentive, informative and helpful! cannot fault the service (and food) at all.
we started with a complimentary cream cheese biscuit? and a loaf of house-made sourdough served with house-made butter and another butter which had seaweed and miso incorporated into it too. the oysters were fresh and served in a way that you could appreciate the flavour of the oyster, and was followed by a lovely dish of cobia crudo with smoked salmon roe. my personal favourite dish from the night was the blue cod. it was beautifully cooked with a crispy skin, and the accompanying sauce and onions were especially divine. the mains were a maple glazed duck breast and suckling pig. both were delicious, flavourful and well cooked. my partner was absolutely blown away by the suckling pig and the sauce. we both found the skin crispy and absolutely perfect. desserts were a passionfruit sorbet, a mandarin dish with a pavlova-like crust encompassing a creamy filling with sake ice cream on the side, and a lovely rich chocolate cake. they washed everything down beautifully and needless to say we were stuffed full.
cannot recommend cutler & co enough for those looking for the perfect evening of good food and a good time. especially for special occasions!

fabulous experience. attentive staff who were not intrusive. even though it was busy, noise level was not too loud. all the food was so expertly cooked- never had such crispy skinned kingfish. pork belly with crispy skin and just the right amount of fat so it melt in your mouth. duck was so tender it just comes apart on your fork. the palate cleaner with passion fruit was a flurry of fruitiness and sweetness that my dinner companion can easily eat that all day long.

decent, but nothing more than that.
it was my second time at cutler & co and it was a very underwhelming experience. we were there with a big table, having the sunday lunch option (75 per head, plus 3 matching wines at 50).
where do i begin?
appetizers - the meager single bite portions served were average at best, there was nothing of note in them at all.
once we were done with appetizers, everyone received a massive, thick slice of mediocre bread, which dare i say was the only reason why the guests didn't walk out hungry.
next came the entree -  2  tiny raw slices of kingfish (think one normal sashimi slice, sliced in half) with a slightly tangy dressing , 2 mussels each with some aioli, and beetroot (about 3 bulbs, for a table of 15 people) on top of a bland almond concoction.
then came the main. i had the fish, while my partner had pasta. both were underwhelming. my fish was overcooked, her pasta was bland and unseasoned(the handmade pasta itself was cooked perfectly though, to be fair).
what was also very evident throughout the main course, were irregular portion sizes as people were receiving servings differing by about 20%, be it fish, pasta or lamb (not to mention the cut - some got a beautiful piece while others basically left 50% of their serving on a plate as it was mostly fat).

the saving graces were:

my husband surprised me and took me here for birthday dinner! what an absolute treat!! from the moment you stepped through the door you are welcomed. the space is just gorgeous and we were given a fantastic table overlooking the whole restaurant. wait service i cannot fault, friendly, polite and attentive. not too over the top, they really did make us feel welcome. the food! my god! we did the chefs selection and it was incredible, they even caterered to preggo-eggo here, and substituted all raw dishes and made sure everything was well cooked. and as a pregnant lady, i can tell you the mock tail list is outstanding! i actually felt like a grown up sipping my elegantly styled, slightly bitter, rhubarb aperitif (could have been a negroni for all you know) than having to have a sugary coke or if you’re lucky maybe a lemon squash with your gorgeous meal. 10pts there right off the bat.
food was so generous for a 5 course meal i think we had a total of 8 dishes, 9 if you include the killer bread! my favourite was the autumnal duck dish, god that was good! the hapuka fish was another highlight and the desserts (which you get 3 of! 4 if you count the truffles!!!) were stunning. i loved the passion fruit sorbets as a starter. divine.
i think we were there for nearly 3 hours? they set a beautiful leisurely pace for the food, all i can say if if you got the clams go, you won’t be disappointed.

i loved cutler and co.
we tried the chef selection with wine pairing, definitely worth it and nice to do on a special occasion. the food was just simply amazing, couldn’t fault anything, the service was just perfect and all staff were so lovely and very knowledgeable. i definitely didn’t feel like “just another customer”. they surprised us with a bday cake which was so lovely. thankyou for having us and a special experience
