me and the boyfriend were craving seafood one night so we headed to cutler and co. it’s so easy to miss as it’s dark and mysterious but the dining area is beautiful and romantic. we were unable to get a table but settled for bar seating where we could order from the same menu and i actually preferred sitting in front of the open kitchen. we ordered the grilled prawns, asparagus, prosciutto, king fish and suckling pig. everything was delicious but the portions are quite small so i recommend ordering quite a few dishes if you want to fill up.

really disappointing! $400 later my husband and i felt cheated. the food was tasteless and not worth the hype at all! the best was the bread and butter and that’s saying something. i had the artichoke as an entree and it was so deep fried i couldn’t finish it. my husband has the kingfish which was edible but tasteless. for mains i had the snapper which again was tasteless and he had the suckling pig. we ordered the squash and potato for sides and a bottle of $80 pinot. all of this was $400 and the portions were tiny. we were hungry afterwards . won’t be back and will not be recommending it. no idea why it’s so highly rated. it’s a fancy restaurant serving tasteless expensive food!

one of my favourites for a guaranteed great dining experience. i always try the chef’s selection as the menu offerings are always unique, interesting, fresh and tantalising to the taste. the wine recommendations are always good too and the service top notch. love the atmosphere that’s both romantic, private, intimate and cosy and one could spend a long time over the dining experience without realising the passing of time.

3.5 we came here a while ago and had the chef’s selection. attentive service and great setting. however, the dishes were either a hit or a miss. the duck was a little too under-done, it was more on the medium rare -rare side resulting in rubbery jelly texture that was difficult to carve. would love to visit again to try the current chef”’s selection of dishes.

i have always wanted to go to cutler & co and had the opportunity through a delicious event on monday, april 1.

the event was to celebrate cutler & co’s 10th birthday. to be in the restaurant for 10 years in the melbourne environment is a testimony to andrew mcconnell’s masterful cooking. he has actually been in the restaurant business for over 18 years.

the restaurant has a moody industrial feel with lots of lamps and mirrors. you are able to look into the kitchen and talk to the staff at your whim and watch the delicate way in which each meal is prepared.

i was also very impressed with the precision of the wait staff on the night. as soon as your water glass was empty it was miraculously filled again. if you left the table, your napkin was neatly folded and awaiting your return.

the food that was served was a collection of old and new favourites of mcconnell and each course was described to each table by the wait staff as well as an in depth description of the wines chosen for each course. some of the wines i had not heard of before and they matched each course perfectly.

our first tasting adventure of the night was the east-side cooler. a mix of house cherry liqueur, sake, rice syrup, vodka, lemon and sparkling wine. it was definitely a palate cleaner and we were ready for our two entrées.
but a surprise came beforehand; a small puff pastry with seafood mouse enclosed and a small wrap with wasabi based cucumber.

another surprise (not on the menu) was a generous individual sour dough cob loaf with fresh butter infused with chick pea and miso.

thinly sliced kingfish crudo, tasmanian wasabi, wild celery & begonia. this was a very delicate fish dish which was very appealing to the eye and tasted even better. this was served with a 2017 eastern peake pinot tache rose from the ballarat region. it had a light spritz and good length.

andrew decided to serve heirloom tomato and white nectarines as another entrée as the season for both of these products are coming to an end. it was accompanied by mojama & roasted chilli. the wine was a 2016 gaelic cemetery ‘premium’ riesling from the clare valley, an austere, dry wine which went well with the entrée.

our mains included a generous portioned king george whiting, pickled cucumber, brown butter & watercress. the fish melted in your mouth and the wine was a 2016 blessington road pinot noir from the tamar valley, tasmania; a full bodied, rich pinot.

our second main was a dry-aged macedon duck with quince and anise crumble. the liquorice background of the duck was evenly met with the 2014 tomfoolery mataro/shiraz from the barossa valley, south australia’ a rich barossa red but with a medium weight texture.

lastly there was dessert. this was a chocolate délice. a beautiful round glazed cake serving with edible gold leaf and a crunch base. a nv pfeiffer classic tawny from the rutherglen, victoria ended this sublime meal.

what was more impressive, my partner who does not like chocolate was served a strawberry concoction and a different wine, braida brachetto d’acqui which had a deep rose colour and floral smell of ripe strawberries and raspberries paired perfectly with the ‘special’ dessert, was produced by our italian waiter, simone. this was totally unexpected and made the meal even more memorable.

another surprise was a small cinnamon meringue biscuit served to end the meal.
i have been so impressed with the professionalism of the staff, the ambiance of the venue, the simplicity of the food and the choice of wines that i have been raving about this restaurant to my family and friends and encourage anyone to make a reservation and enjoy being indulged.

dining at cutler & co is a wonderful experience. the fit out is industrial-chic, the food is creative and a fusion of japanese and european flavours and the service is utterly impeccable. i can’t wait to return! #cutlerandco #melbourne

just remember to write a review for this amazing restaurant i visited long time ago. we didn’t make a booking but the host nicely offered us a seat in the ‘bar’ area with full menu available. the dining room is so bright and beautiful. the foods were amazing. we had the kingfish and zucchini flower to start, the lamb and pork for main and spiced pineapple as dessert. everything was perfect and the waiters were all very friendly and passionate. we were even offered a second bread cuz that sourdough was just too delicious. really worth to dime there and hoping on my next visit!

3.5. a lovely setting, and very attentive service. we had some nice appetisers and bread to start, then ordered the prawns and zucchini flowers for entree, suckling pig for main, and finished with the chocolate delice. everything was well executed and presented. taste-wise, all the flavours were nice, although for me, it did lack some of the wow-factor i was hoping for. overall, a very nice dinner and great wine recommendations from the sommelier.

birthday dinner here was amazing, to my wife here on her birthday and had an ultimate feast in a well technically executed degustation. remembered the maron when it arrived so meaty and sweet on the flesh with a classical bisque sauce to accompany it. the service was attentive enough but not intrusive which is what you want to enjoy and relax and soak in the atmosphere of the culinary works of diners. a must try for someone looking for a special night out.

amazing venue. staff are friendly and polite, and the restaurant provides a great atmosphere for a date night. my bf surprised me with a dinner here, and it really was the perfect choice. we opted for the degustation menu, and it was delightful. lots of wonderful flavours and pairings of textures. plus he was happy that there was a lot of meat featured in courses, compared to others we have tried which have been heavily vegetarian. if you love fine dining, i highly recommend checking this place out.

came here for sunday lunch, $75 pp for set menu. starters were lovely, olives and prosciutto, oysters, sour cream and chives on bread, and focaccia. that focaccia was amazingg! entrees were also very delicious, tomatoes, mussels, terrine- yumm, and zucchini flowers. for main, the pork was very good and the crackling was perfect and fatty, fish was nicely cooked, and the pasta was average. for dessert the chocolate mousse was very delicious, and the panna cotta was simple yet a classic. overall great service and experience, and good value for money with this delicious set menu. we were all full by the end of it. will definitely return for dinner!

when you are reaching the lofty heights of a $50 main course there are certain expectations, and cutler and co satisfies in every way. the $150 per head we spent was well worth it.

at that price point it's not just about the food. it's about how the moment you walk through the door you are immediately attended to and shown to your table, assigned a waiter by name with the sommelier also introducing herself. not only that, she sensed we had made a joint decision on the wine, so it was a joint tasting to ensure it was not corked. or that they were happy to split a glass of wine into two, or do a smaller pour to ensure the driver would stay legal.

we never actually needed to flag down a waiter; they were always just there without being intrusive. the water glasses were always filled. the booth for two had a wonderful atmosphere, a lit candle and the it was just the right side to hold hands across the table but still fit food on. there was always a little bit of food on the table, right from the time we walked in with the tasters, or the most divine organic sourdough and house made butter. how we said we were sharing so they plated up each course twice. it just seemed there was never a "no" (apart from no duck tonight!)
