"experience of injustice- refusedserviceby same rude male staff member"
the same male staff member, see prior review below, told me he wouldn't serve me again, when i last visited on monday night, the 8th of february. also, the same guy does not regularly clean the tables and does not bring customers cutlery when they order something to eat. that's bad customerservicetoo! this lack ofservicewas unjustified and inappropriate as there was no reason at all for him to deny meserviceupon my next visit. this denial ofserviceis not based on anything, rather on a prejudiced non-professional personal opinion. it is not based on facts or evidence.


rude male staff member & management unresponsive towards complaints: 1. guy was very rude to me at the customer counter, sun 24th of may. i entered the cafe at approximately 8pm, and the guy took my order and when i asked him to wipe my table, saying 'can you wipe my table please- he replied 'you need to talk nicer'. excuse-me, but i said 'can you wipe my table please'. that was polite, calm and reasonable. he also talked back to me, saying it's already clean. however, when i looked at it, it looked dirty. i then walked out because he did not want to wipe the table. that was a reasonable request and in this climate of covid-19, i would expect my table to be wiped. after all, i asked him nicely and politely, saying 'can you wipe my table please', and as soon as i said that, he angrily and unprofessionally replied, ' you need to talk nicer'. that shows his reluctance to be polite to customers, inability to comply with social distancing and health regulations. why can't the guy just wipe my table, after all, it is a reasonable request and is simply enough to oblige without objecting and being rude. 2. when i complained to management, they refused to take any accountability saying i was mistaken and talking about a different cafe and telling me not to write reviews: 'we wipe our tables and chairs after each and every customer.you must be talking about another cafe! please do not write reviews without ensuring you are on the correct cafe site" (response from management)

fantastic food and coffee, the sticky date cake is in my opinion the best one in sydney! also love the warm chicken salad, the beef burger and the pineapple cocktail (it's actually fruit frappe)! theserviceis quite relax but friendly. it's the café to go on a relax friday night for a wonderful meal or sunday afternoon for a nice coffee and tea.

i'm not one to leave reviews and rather just not return. but after going to this cafe and experiencing some of the worst customerserviceever i feel the need to warn others. most of the wait staff (except for one) were very rude and hostile. rather than being welcoming, made us feel like we were an inconvenience. the guy behind the counter who took my money was by far the worst of all of them. there are so many great cafes in newtown. this is not one of them.

i wish i could rate zero. first let me start that i got gastro from some halloumi in the salad i had. i was taken to hospital by ambulance. the food in the pastry case also looked very stale and old, so i wouldn’t be surprised i got sick.
theservicewas absolutely horrendous. long story short, i waited for an hour until my salad arrived. my friend’s salad took additional 30mins (so in total 90 mins!) there were only a few customers at that time, and i saw at least five staff working. i can never imagine how they could be so disorganised and could not care less.

i have been here on both the weekend and during the week. the times i was here were very different experiences. both times i ordered the canadian waffles and the waffles themselves were cooked quite well with a great serving of bacon. the similarity between both days ended there. on the weekend theservicewas poor but staff seemed in happy spirits though. on the weekday visitservicewas not as bad(probably due to less people)but the waitress didn't seem too knowledgable of the menu and not too happy. the dish was much better on the weekend with banana, bacon & waffles cooked perfectly and covered in maple syrup(def suggest) but the dish was cooked very differently on the weekday - minimal maple syrup(to the point i asked for more)banana was not cooked & had no syrup on it & bacon had no maple syrup on it and appeared & tasted more like a side then a part of the dish. great serving sizes & cakes looked very good though however are a bit expensive at $8.90 a slice. i probably wont return due to theserviceon weekend and food on weekday.

great food and coffee.serviceis pretty bad and the atmosphere definitely doesnt help. if they renovated and hired better staff, it'd be a 5.

great hours with it being open till midnight. perfect for students (like myself) who do like to study at cafes!

however.. terribleserviceand not clean. the first time i went, i was ignored and then went up to the counter to grab my own menu. the waitress who served me was quite rude as well and didn't even give me a smile? i mean it's not necessary, but it would be nice. while i ordered and began to work, i noticed many flies and small insects (inside the cabinet where the food is too.. - but quite common to be honest..). the thing which really put me off was the mini cockroach which crawled on the table.. i couldn't even stand sitting there anymore..

i ended up grabbing only the vegan brownie and a chai latte. the brownie was amazing and very decadent but the chai was off, it just wasn't good (or fresh?)..

i did go a second time and sat outside. again, i went unnoticed and the staff on that day were just rude, disinterested and uncaring. won't be back again.. until maybe the cafe is cleaner and you get more respectful staff.

points for the brownie! and being able to study there without anyone caring about you..

we stopped by here for a coffee as one of the few places open later in the evening that will just serve coffee as most coffee shops shut by later afternoon or only restaurants serving meals. it is located on king street.serviceis fairly friendly.

went with a chai latte and latte. they tasted fine but wish it was hotter in temperature.

goodserviceand place if you're white/caucasian. if you're not, good luck. i've been here twice and on both occasions, the guy behind the counter (not the owner) was extremely disinterested in serving me or advising me. on the flipside, the dude was very friendly, helpful and even gave tableserviceto the people he felt were worth it. i observed this multiple times while i was having my meal.

goodserviceand food. seating is limited. acceptable wait time. accepts mastercard payments. generous portions. good value for money. fresh ingredients.

absolute shocking. while the food was respectable (if ordinary) theservicebordered on offensive. upon arrival i waited at the entry as most tables were littered with dirty plates and food scraps. i was going to leave but grabbed a menu out of interest. i asked a member of staff if i could order some breakfast. "to take away?" she asked. i told her i was wanting to dine in. she caustically told me (with a kind of cold hard stare) that i should sit at a table so she could take my order. the exchange continued in this vein as i ordered some food. rude, uncaring and so obviously chemically altered from the night before. i should have left then, but was hungry and had little time. i urge anyone considering this 'cafe' to go elsewhere. this levelserviceis completely inexcusable.

the customerserviceis great.
i had walked out and down king st for 10m when i tripped and my hot chocolate went for a jog..
went back to grab a new one and staff gave it for me for free.

i love how they use powder and not syrups for the chai latte and hot chocolates 😊

toilet needs an upgrade, ahh the cockroaches that are crawling in there are ridiculously disgusting 😤😤

this is the first time i have ever written a review of a place or felt compelled to leave a complaint. i have never experienced such horrendous customerserviceas i did at this cafe (saturday 21st november 2015). the staff that took my order and brought out my food were friendly, but when it came time to pay for my meal, the man taking my payment was incredibly rude when he got frustrated by my wanting to pay for my friends meal and my meal separately. it wasn't a big order and very simple to do but as he was taking the payments he was shaking his head and i told him that isn't good customerserviceand there was no need for him to shake his head and then he got visibly angry so i told him to calm down to which he responded that i was the one who needed to calm down and that i was scaring him. i just stood there dumbfounded. as i left the cafe he shook his head again at me. this was more than someone having a bad day at work which i can understand, this man was arrogant and rude and clearly has no customerserviceskills or respect for his workplace.

late weekend arvo, a pit stop between appointments and a place to rest the feet.  the coffee turned out so good, it was the right choice to stop. not as packed on breakfast and brunch mornings butservicewas efficient. corner location is great, with a side road and outside table seating as well.

you dont go here forserviceor good food. you go here because its open late and you can watch the world go by.
terrible service.
average food.
average coffee.
but it is open really late.
