the congee selection is very wide and is very flavorful. for the other foods, it was only average at best. the fried rice noodles that we had were not as flavor filled as we hoped it would be. definitely worth going to try out the congee, not so much for anything else.

for those who don’t know what congee is, it’s like a soupy rice porridge that is filled with different meats and toppings. the first bowl up was the house special seafood congee ($7). this was the smaller size, but larger sized bowls are available for sharing with large groups. the congee was filled with prawns, squid, fish, and scallops and topped with the restaurant’s standard topping of peanuts, ginger, and green onion. the congee was smooth and warm and it was brought to life by the flavours of the items that were added. i particularly enjoyed the sweet plump prawns that were inside and i thought the mild seafood flavours were delicious in this dish. salted chinese donuts ($1.75) are often ordered along with congee so we got a plate of them. these donuts are more chewy, salty,

this was a late addition to our meal, and it was so good because i felt like i hadn’t had it for a really long time. i probably haven’t because it’s not particularly common around here.well cutting to the chase, the pork was just lovely crispy but just a bit on the salty side

the textures of both the skin and the meat were also pretty darn good. the skin was as bouncy as the skin of a perfectly cooked pork hock while the meat was pleasingly tender when it was dark and acceptably tender when it was white.

best congee; good bbq duck. i always order the congee here. it's the best. gotta order the deep fried donut too....and dip it in the congee! i used to like no.9 bbq duck because the duck used to be huge and came with a bowl of the duck juices for your rice. however, the ducks at no.9 are smaller now and have hardly any meat. congee noodle house ducks are pretty decent sized and meaty. we get a 1/2 a duck and it goes really well with white rice or congee. nommy! i don't really order anything else here because i haven't had good experiences with the chowmein or other dishes. their sticky rice (dzung) is pretty good...and huge; served in a pool of sweet soy sauce. wish the decor was nicer but oh well.

take out with the girls. ordered take out from this place, as i was in town for a conference and wanted to have dinner with my friend. good thing, i ordered take out, as it is difficult to find any kind of parking for this restaurant. i ordered the king crab, buddas's delight and the pork bbq which came out to about $50. food was good and i would definitely come back again the next time i'm back in vancouver.

the verdict? loved it. we’ll definitely have to try a few different places so i can get a sense of how congee varies from restaurant to restaurant, but i don’t consider that much of a hardship. and hey, if it happens to lead to a long and healthy life at the same time – who are we to argue?

go to place for a bowl of congee and doughnut. i always order the congee with the hk style beef and octopus and pork stomach and the chinese sweet doughnut.

although service is kind of slow, the ladies generally stand around and stare off into space or chit chat amongst themselves, the food speaks for itself.

overall, the meal was satisfying. it may not be the best tasting or looking food. at this hour, i cannot be picky as my selection is limited. i was also delighted to find that my car had no broken windows without further ado, i drove ying home and watched her cram a bit

parking sucks the big chop stick!. food generally is ok 6.5/10....congee is pretty good 8/10. but....the parking is a nightmare in the back. the owners have obviously repainted the stalls to squeeze and i mean squeeze extra cars in. i'm thinking the stalls are definitely not to city code. i actually saw one frustrated customer in the back give up on the parking, and decided to leave. the food is ok.....but the absurd parking and the cash only policy will make me think twice before returning....if i return.

best congee ever. this is my favorite place for congee. i think it's congee is so famous that i don't need to say anything. and the price is good, too!!
