congee noodle house

came here for lunch today with my dad. we both ordered a bowl of congee and a dish of rice rolls and a deep fried pancake.
the pancake did not taste fresh by itself so i added it into my congee, although it's a little soggy, it still taste okay.
my bowl of fish and meal ball congee came pretty fast, however, the other bowl of congee came very late. service was a little slower today but they were busy so it's okay.
the dried shrimp rice rolls was apparently not very good as per what my dad (who is a chinese chef) said.

we came from a small plate, pricy tapas place and were still hungry. seeing as this would be our second meal in the span of 15 minutes we wanted more food for cheaper. i find chinese cuisine always checks off those boxes for me. and this was my guest’s favourite late night go-to. it was like the chinese equivalent of a greasy spoon. fast food, big portions, cheaper prices.

this place is decent, the convenient location is definitely a bonus. but the service is horrendous and lousy. very rude waitresses - they either pretend like they don't see you or they can't understand you (unless of course you speak fluent cantonese). so if you don't mind the crappy service and wanting some typical chinese food in the area then give it a try. otherwise i wouldn't go out of my way to go eat there.

good ol' congee noodle house, something you can't really go wrong with when you want some early morning congee or some late night bites. i often find myself eating here with family in the morning, during which i usually get congee with, of course.. you guessed it.. chinese doughnuts

photo: my late night snacking @ congee noodle house, everyone’s fave place for cheap chinese comfort food and open til late. they offer a variety of barbecued meats (like pork, chicken, and duck), as well as congees, noodles, dumplings and other stirfry dishes. they also have a late night menu which is a little cheaper. because there is so much variety, you can go in for a light snack, or have a full-on meal. they also have some fresh seafood, like crab and fish, that you can order.

when i'm craving congee this is the place to go.  fresh congee with whatever you want inside and always accompanied by a delicious chinese donut. 

everything on the menu ive tried was good.  from the chow mein to the hot pots.  if youre craving late night congee or chinese eats, come to this place.

favorite congee:  preserved century egg and shredded pork (must have chinese donut)

the congee is very good here, we usually order the congee with fish, chinese donut, bbq duck, chow mein, and the green beans. most of the food is pretty standard for a chinese place. this is the type of restaurant a lot of young people come to after a night at the bar. 

service is terrible (no surprise), and prices are not as cheap as you would expect.

it's been a few years since  we visited cnh on main and broadway for congee.  we came on a saturday morning before 11am. . it was strange because the restaurant looked very empty.  from our previous visits, we always had to wait for a table so we were quite surprised. . we ordered some chinese donuts. they were done quite well crispy on the outside and doughy and soft in the inside. 100x better than the crap we got from neptune wonton out at the yvr outlets.

i'd say it's one of the better place to get congee around vancouver because the congee it's self is tasty, and the condiments that goes with it fits well like deep fried chinese doughnut, and the boiled vegetable, century egg, and deep friend squid, definitely a good option over here. any type of congee over here is good. definitely will recommend this place for a congee fix :d

get the pork and century egg congee. if your feeling something hearty try the curry beef and vegetable brisket.
all the other dishes seem pretty generic but for some reason i always keep coming back for these two items. great take out and very comforting.

had a quick take out dinner here. very comforting. can't go wrong with the cantonese classic items.
as for service the lady owner is rude... hence the overall rating.

standard chinese food place. they're best known for their congee and opening late. this location seems to cater better towards the caucasian crowd than the congee noodle king (kingsway/joyce) and ironically this location has better tasting congee. given that there aren't that many chinese noodle options in mount pleasant this is a pretty good pick if you want some hot food fast.

i'm currently coming to you live from...the sfu bookstore!! what, did you think i was at some exotic locale? ;).  i'm actually at the downtown sfu with my mom ~ we're waiting for her photos to be printed and we didn't have anywhere else to go harhar.   there's actually a really nice seating area inside the bookstore (with reclaimed wood tables!!) and the wifi here is super fast! 

  i actually have to be at ubc in a few hours. le sigh ~ thankfully i discovered that there's a bus outside the bookstore that goes straight to ubc!! that way i don't have to take the canada line to broadway city hall!

  anyways, i totally forgot about this post ~ i actually ate here during the summer!! i went to congee noodle house to fuel up right before my soci final (i managed to get a decent mark, thanks cnh!!) 

 i really like congee noodle house. they don't have the best food, but i like how simple and unpretentious it is!! and the fact that it's really affordable! 

  i bet my dad would really like this place. i should take him here sometime. i told him about congee noodle house and he was like "really, well how come i've never heard of it? it's probably not real cantonese food." and i was like "it is, it's filled with old cantonese grandpas reading newspapers!! you can't get more legit than that!!"

  cnh has two locations, one on kingsway in east van, and this one on broadway! this location is right in front of the 99 bus stop, so after my meal i hoped on the bus and went straight to school!!

known on menus as ‘beef brisket water dumpling noodle soup’, i think it is basically the perfect food. of course, i’m biased. it was dad’s favourite, and now, it is a favourite of all three of his sons. however, i do think i picked up the preference for water dumplings from mom, a plumper version of a wonton, and with more shrimp.

worst restaurant. chow mein was crispy and flavourless, rice noodles mushy. would not recommend to anyone. worst service on top of the gross food, no water, nothing.

consistently solid congee. love their variety and seems like no matter what time i come, it's always busy. this time i tried their duck on rice and my opinion on the bbq is mediocre. the skin seemed too dry for my liking.

there was also one waitress who came out of the kitchen yelling at all her colleagues for placing a dish at a wrong table. she yelled so loud the entire restaurant went quiet. very unprofessional but hopefully not a regular occurrence.

i was feeling a bit sick and wanted some congee. my bf suggested congee noodle house. we arrived what seem like right after lunch rush at 12:50pm on a tuesday.

the restaurant is fairly large and they have 3-4 waitresses. one seems to be concentrated on cleaning tables. the others are busy running around. we definitely had to get their attention to place our order.

the congee is excellent. super smooth and silky texture. the sweet fried biscuit was a bit tough on the outside but soft enough inside. we had an order of the rice in a leaf and it was huge! the beef flank was super tender and the flavour was bang on.

overall we had a great experience with the food and will definitely be back!
