cobalt, the restaurant

best restaurant on the alabama coast. food and service are always great. we are regulars here and can assure you there is not one bad item on the menu. you may have to wait because everyone loves their food and the beach and tropical ambiance. come early between may and august the other months there is hardly any wait time. you'll be back, enjoy!

my wife and i had the shrimp with pasta. waiter told us it was spicy and really good. we were both disappointed because it wasn't really seasoned at all and by no means spicy. pasta and shrimp was cooked well but had to add a lot of salt. waiter asked us if we enjoyed it and we were honest. manager came and saw us and made it right. we were pleased with the service and also the manager going above and beyond for us to enjoy our experience and not leave with a bad taste in our mouth. our kids had the pizza and the chicken fingers and fries and they were great! sadly better than our food.

this place has great food, and i've always had really good service. the view is outstanding, but you'll probably have to wait for it because this place is quite busy. they have great happy hour specials. my biggest complaint is that it is really loud when you eat inside.

i liked it. good service nice views. tasted fresh not frozen. i'd go back. pretty reasonable for what ya get. nice outside area and bars. if you get a 4 out of me it was pretty good.

oops. i can no longer trust this as a "go to" restaurant. i stay at the condo's next door and loved being able to run over for a meal. after three attempts this year, i had to pass. hope the cooking picks up again next year. right now i would say you need to be able to return the entrees. i understand the bread pudding is excellent.

rude hostess. we were celebrating a birthday and wanted a table by the window. hostess said there was an hour wait (it was 4pm). we said fine, we would sit at a table in the bar for drinks and appetizers until our table was ready. she said our name could not be added to the wait list since we were at a bar table (there were many spaces available) she was not helpful and had quite the attitude.
our group left and went to shipps harbour crill. food and service was fabulous. it will be our new go-to place, since cobalt obviously does need or want our business.

firecracker shrimp. my family love this dish! it is wonderful..

we have been to cobalt 4 or 5 times and have always had a good dining experience. one of our favorites is the pecan catfish which is delicious. other items we have had that were very good were the flatbread, fresh oysters and various appetizers.

we also have had.sunday brunch which was wonderful.

cobalt delivers consistently good food and service.

fantastic view. if you are visiting you must go here just before sunset. food is very good service is good but be prepared to wait in the summer.

30th anniversary dinner. i had the blackened red snapper that was simply amazing, and my wife had the grilled shrimp and grits. the waiter insisted i try some "oscar sauce" on the side with the snapper so i did, i could hear him ''pushing'' it on others around our area also. didnt know until i got my check that he charged me $7 extra for it (and it was horrible). my wifes grilled shrimp were not deveined as i thought they should have been for their size at a place like this. overall a good meal and we will probably return next year.

cool atmosphere - that's about all. in town for a friend's birthday party. went there on a saturday night. they don't take reservations, which is annoying for a restaurant at this price-point. once we arrive, we're told it's a 1.5 hour wait. i can say the bar was a winner. attentive bartenders, quick refills, and some great grilled oysters. had we left after the bar, i would have been impressed. unfortunately we didn't.

no one was impressed with their order. the crab-and-corn bisque (ordered by two in the group) had decent flavor but lacked any crab meat with an excessive amount of crab/shrimp shells. entrees ranged from underwhelming to downright bad. the catfish was basically inedible. the birthday girl ordered bread pudding which came out cold - like straight-from-the-fridge cold. (at least it was comped.)

i will not be returning for dinner. perhaps to have a pre-dinner drink at the outdoor bar, but that would be about it.

overrated. my catch of the day came to the table as a 4 oz. piece of fish..it looked like a swordfish medallion...lol..i showed the manager and she agreed it should never had come out of the kitchen like that. the rest of my portion was sent out 15 minutes later...i assume the kitchen staff has no real culinary training...skip this place on your trip...

girls trip. well....thought we saved the best for last. walked in, and we were all smiles. what a beautiful place to have dinner. sat outside, very beautiful. music coming from bar, let's just say that he should have kept with the instrumental version. nothing that special about the food. maybe it was the head chefs night off. shrimp and buttery grits. did not even taste like grits. oysters on the half shell were the smallest oysters i've ever seen.

very disappointing. i've had better food at the original oyster house. for a better price. if i pay a fancy high price i expect halfway decent food.

great happy hour. if you are in the area, and are looking for a great happy hour and afternoon snack cobalt has great options. they offer 50 cent oysters (soooo cheap), and $5 dynamite shrimp (also great). they also have various drink specials. it truly is an incredible deal, and the best time to visit the restaurant.
