ready to gobackagain!. well i finally made it to cobalt - i have been wanting to check this place out for quite a while now, and finally had the chance to have dinner there friday night.
great service.
food was really good, and prices were very fair.
couldn't really enjoy the view as we there after dark, but i imagine it would a great place during the afternoon and early evening hours. also looked to have some very good docks/slips for arriving by water.
our party consisted of four adults and entrees included the filet, blackened redfish, seafood pizza, and the crab bisque.
i did not try the filet, but my friend said it was great, and looking at the color, i could tell it was cooked to perfection.
the blackened redfish was served over a spicy jambalaya with a small amount of hollandaise sauce drizzled across the top. it had a very nice appearance on the plate and was a very hefty portion. very spicy, and the best dish on the table in my opinion.
the "stone hearth seafood pizza" was really good, the saffron crust certainly had that nice brick oven flavor/texture, the alfredo sauce was very light and did not interfere with the flavor of the shrimp, scallops and crab. it also had onions, peppers and asparagus, which were a nice complement to the seafood flavors as well. the pizza is a great value too, as i took the other halfbackto our hotel for lunch the next day!
the bisque, was good, not great. i have had better, but i certainly wouldn't file a major complaint on this one. very smooth and creamy, nice flavor, large portion, but just not as much "lump" crab meat as i like to see in a bisque. don't get me wrong, it was in there, just not in lump form - more of a pureed version.
we also had a dozen raw oysters - they were from texas, had a great flavor, very cold, and were of average to medium size, no tiny ones, yet they still made it a baker's dozen.
wine and draft beer prices were very fair as well.
the restaurant was noisy, the dining room wasn't even full, yet it was very loud. probably due to the design... high ceilings, hardwood floors, glass front. the tables are large, so i felt a little too far away from the couple sitting opposite from us, and often found hearing our conversation to be difficult.
but all in all, i loved it, i'm willing to talk louder, get my hearing checked, whatever it takes... because i will be goingbackto cobalt!
