cobalt, the restaurant

the meal atcobaltis probably one of my most favorite meals in a really long time. while i love food and have an arsenal of never-fail favorites, it’s been a while since a restaurant has truly wooed me.cobaltwon me over with it’s restaurant trifecta – a great atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable service, and most importantly, fantastic food.

if only the service were better.... we went tocobaltafter seeing all the great reviews. we got there and were seated pretty quickly. our server was quick to get our drink order, and we were thinking it'd be a great meal (great view, great ambiance). then things went downhill. it took a while to get our drinks. they were good, but took a while. when our server finally took our food order, we'd been there a while. we never got bread; our server disappeared, and we literally had to flag her down for anything; and we even had to ask other servers for items. the food was pretty good. i had the ribs, though they were cold by the time we got them (45 minutes after ordering), the flavor was great, and they fell off the bone. the shrimp my sister had was average; the pizza my brother in law had was good - but very rich; and the oyster poboy my husband had was pretty good. we thought about ordering dessert, but since we'd already been there two hours, we figured we'd cut our loses, and just go on and go. we didn't feel like waiting another hour for dessert. this place has potential, but just needs to work on service.

worth it!. we were in the orange beach area on vacation and went tocobalton a recommendation from a local. it was delicious! i got the filet, and let me tell you, it was the best i've ever had! i am from the okla and have had many filets in my life, even beef we raises on our farm. but this was the best by far! i would definitely recommend it to anyone. in reference to other reviewers, you get what you pay for so obviously the steeper prices = better quality food. also, how could you look at this place and not know it was a slow, sit-down restaurant? when we entered the restaurant, i knew we'd be there for a while so i feel like time isn't a legitimate complaint, especially if the restaurant was busy... we had a great server. we will definitely come back!

we went tocobaltagain on our visit to orange beach this week and, as always, were glad we did! the view of the marina and waterway was beautiful as the sun set, making the outside seating area a great place for our family to spend the evening. the food was terrific - shrimp and grits, ahi tuna salad and bison burger all got heavy compliments from the people in our party who ordered them. the spicy marinara sauce on the spaghetti had more kick than any of us have ever seen in marinara at any other restaurant, but the spicy food lovers at the table loved it! we decided as the meal ended thatcobaltwill be a consistent stop on all of our future visits to the orange beach area!

rude hostess. we were celebrating a birthday and wanted a table by the window. hostess said there was an hour wait (it was 4pm). we said fine, we would sit at a table in the bar for drinks and appetizers until our table was ready. she said our name could not be added to the wait list since we were at a bar table (there were many spaces available) she was not helpful and had quite the attitude.
our group left and went to shipps harbour crill. food and service was fabulous. it will be our new go-to place, sincecobaltobviously does need or want our business.

we have been tocobalt4 or 5 times and have always had a good dining experience. one of our favorites is the pecan catfish which is delicious. other items we have had that were very good were the flatbread, fresh oysters and various appetizers.

we also have had.sunday brunch which was wonderful.

cobalt delivers consistently good food and service.

great happy hour. if you are in the area, and are looking for a great happy hour and afternoon snackcobalthas great options. they offer 50 cent oysters (soooo cheap), and $5 dynamite shrimp (also great). they also have various drink specials. it truly is an incredible deal, and the best time to visit the restaurant.

full and happy. first time to eat atcobaltand could not have had a better experience. had guest in from out of town and wanted to give them a nice dinning experience with a great view and we got it and then some. the food was great as was the service and the view. we had lunch and dessert for four people and got out, with tip, for under a c-note. will definitely be going there again

worst service ever. went tocobaltat 4:30 pm on a friday. promptly seated. proceeded to wait 15 minutes and no server ever showed up. counted 15 servers that passed by in the 15 minute period, made eye contact and continued to walk pass. got fed up and left. talked to the front area table assigners and manager about the horrible service and all i got was a shug of the shoulders.

do not ever eat at cobalt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we came tocobaltfor the breakfast buffet. we were hoping to get a really good breakfast after looking at the impressive dinner menu. we were so disappointed that i started writing this review before ever receiving the check. frozen biscuits, frozen hash browns, lumpy grits, rubbery sausage...terrible, terrible, terrible. needless to say, we will not be back for dinner...or ever for that matter.

really good!. friday night i took my gf tocobaltfor a bayview dinner. i have eaten here several times, so my expectations were reasonably high. we were seated promptly (luckily, as the crowds can be quite large here during summer--1.5 hour wait the night before) and attended to by a very pleasant young lady named alex. for an appetizer we decided upon a small cheese pizza, which was surprisingly good, especially the crust, which can make or break the pie. for entrées we had the triggerfish with west indies crab over polenta, and thecobaltburger. the seafood entrée came with a house salad--fresh greens with a champagne vinaigrette, which was bright and tasty. the triggerfish was delicate and properly cooked, and worked well with the other flavors. quite good. the burger was really good. i mean, "i know what i'm going to order next time i come back here" good! the view of the bay on an early friday summer evening added to making this a great choice. casual dining with upscale flavors make this an easy restaurant to recommend.

location and atmosphere looked promising- dinner, massive disappointment, especially for the elevated prices. waitress didn't keep drinks refilled. courses arrived before previous was finished- felt very, very rushed. dishes were not removed and piled up on the table making eating courses additionally awkward. main courses were terribly overlooked and not served at the proper temperature. we never mind paying for good food and good service.cobaltfailed to provide the level professional service or quality of food expected from restaurants of similar price range.

invisible. i just walked out ofcobaltafter being there 10 min. without even getting any water or a nod from any wait person other than the hostess. business is not that good down here and neglecting customers, when you are not even half full, will come back to haunt you!!!!!

average food...high price. took family tocobalt6-11-12. service was slow and food overpriced. server was nice. west indies salad was bland and the baked oysters were baked to death. kids pizza was basic but nothing special. if it weren't for the boats going by it would have been a complete bust. you can do better in gs/ob.

just leftcobaltand had the peppercorn fillet. probably one of the best steaks i've had in a long long time. everything i put in my mouth was amazing! the service was awesome and the manager even brought us some free baked oysters that the kitchen had cooked an extra order on accident. overall experience was an eleven out of ten!
