meh - nothing special. i tried the single withcheese($7), which isn't a bad price if the burger was good. instead they were extremely tiny and had an average taste at best. seriously, where was the meat?!? the fries ($4) were over cooked and extremely salty (trying to get customers to buy more beer?) to the point where i couldn't eat them any more. i will say that there were a lot of fries in the bag, but again what's the point if you can't eat it. with all the burger options in this city, i don't see myself heading back any time soon.

a ++ burger and shake. my visit was late on a sunday evening, so the restaurant was not too busy. service and staff were top notch! the menu is simple, which is great in my opinion. they do only a few things, so they should do them well. in fact, they do hamburgers great! i was absolutely knocked out by the quality of the doublecheesei received.the bun and the fixings (hats-off to the clive sauce) were an enhancement to the overwhelmingly moist and perfectly cooked bugger patties. quite honestly, i wasn't expecting this. truly a contender for the best burger in calgary.

the fries were fine but not outstanding. the clive custard shake is a destination item all by itself. simply terrific!

reply to frank "the latest foray into the "gourmet burger" game.". frank,
i went to clive burger yesterday, and have good news for you, i think they took your recommendations, or this review to heart. there are print out menu's at the front door, so you don't need to look at the main menu, i never saw any magazines anywhere, they have 'buzzing' coasters that go off when your order is complete, the custard machine was up and running (and delicious!) and they now have rather cheddar or swisscheeseto choose from - and yes it is real.
my experience from yesterday was awesome! the staff was friendly and my burger was delicious.
i will definitely make it back here soon, although the cost is a little high for a burger - it really is delicious and it's also on 17th, which is expected.

oh, something else that was great, the place seemed very 20+ crowd, which may be due to the patio out front, but i enjoyed not having the annoying 17th ave teenage crowd ruining my meal.

liked it !. great burger , fresh toppings ( liked the big pickles ) , fries were also good and plentiful . very tasty chipolte sauce ! thecheesewas a disappointing though , the texture and taste reminded me of craft singles . also liked the interior and artwork . will return .

the fact that the beef is home grown / hormone / antibiotic free justifies the extra price to me . how can anyone compare clive to drive through burgers ?

i really like the burgers at clive but i can't justify eating here because of the price. the burgers are on the small side and the patties are quite thin, so even if you get a double (which is around $10 not including a side) you'll probably still be hungry. the other thing i don't like is how the only options forcheeseare processedcheeseslices, which they charge extra for. thatcheeseis not even close to being worth a dollar, i wouldn't even eat it if it were free. great customer service and nice interior but they need to be more realistic about what they're charging.

honestly, there is nothing cuter than the little cartoon hamburgers, fries, hotdogs, etc. adorning the walls of this local burger joint. they offer single ($7), double ($10), or triple ($13) hamburgers with your choice of the usual toppings. for $1-2 more you can add a fried egg, bacon, fried mushroom, or fried onion. i got a single withcheesewhich was the perfect size for me. beef was well seasoned and juicy. bun was yummy. i also got a poutine. i didn't like it. the fries were drowning in a bath of gravy and were rather soggy as a result. i noticed several people grabbing poutine from next door at the bigcheeseand then grabbing a burger at clive lol. maybe that's the way to go. nevertheless, i will come back for the burgers, and i would like to try their smokies too!

nice name clive burger but just how good are the burgers? located on 17ave it can be a bit of pain trying to find parking. but once you're inside you'll instantly notice their cute decor art plastered all over the walls. anyways they have a giant menu to the right where you order and first thing struck me is that damn when did burgers get so expensive? this better be one damn amazing burger to justify this price tag. i heard their shakes were to die for but i'm not fond of heavy drinks so grizzly paw sodas for $4 each was my choice.

my girlfriend got their $10 double burger and i got their $13 triple burger clive style. also a small $6 poutine to share. they have lots of seating in the back of the restaurant tucked away. but when my order was called and i gave it a glance, looked pretty promising. the burger bun is amazing, nice shape to it and pillowy. but when i took my first bite all expectations went down the drain. man what a mediocre burger especially considering the price tag. what ever happened to salt and pepper on burger patties? even with all the toppings it was just mediocrely bland even with all the toppings. what's worse was the poutine.cheesecurds, check. fries, check. gravy almost like water, no thanks. man my fries were just swimming in this water gravy.

overall, clive burger was really meh. lunch for 2 was just shy over $40. quite expensive if you ask me for some simple burgers. i like their artwork and all but i probably wouldn't go back.

this is a true classic burger, and for $6.50 it’s a definite win. the single patty hamburger is sufficient for a normal appetite. they claim to not be gourmet nor fast food, and i would agree. there’s no foie gras, tomato jam, or other unique ingredients and there is also no processedcheeseor dripping grease. it’s how a burger should be. a small poutine ($6) can easily be shared by two or three people. the line was a little slow, and the food didn’t arrive fast, but we didn’t mind. i recommend!

way too much for a burger. it seems reasonable until you add bacon, cheeseand onions. then you have a $15 burger that is only a slightly higher quality than a harvey's burger. we waited 15 minutes to have our brought to our table and it was dead. the custard milkshakes are pretty good, i can't stomach a whole one though. you'd be better off going to boogies.

skip clive burger and go somewhere else.. pros: dining room and bathroom appeared clean. service was prompt and the food came about as fast as i'd like it to.

cons: the food was not good, which is the whole purpose of going out for a treat at a trendy burger place in the sw. our burgers were pink in the center and not fully cooked. i know that some people eat their meat that way, but serving under-cooked food is a health hazard when they don't explicitly say they serve them that way. that is a deal breaker for me. a single burger withcheeseand a large fry (a large fry could feed four people, they waste so much food) came to $14. the burger was maybe 100g of meat, perhaps 150? i can make a better burger at home for less money and feed more people. not worth the price of admission. i will not be going back.

while not a complete "dislike", the burgers at clive burger are rather pedestrian, under-seasoned and lacking crucial fatty flavour. the vegetable toppings are fresh (juicy, thick-sliced pickles, perfectly ripe tomatoes and crisp lettuce) and the bun is fresh and well-proportioned to the patties. i do appreciate the meltedcheeseand generous condiments oozing out of the burger, creating a suitably messy dining experience. the fries are crisp but also under-seasoned (although the proffered malt vinegar was most welcome). friendly staff and clean restaurant do help somewhat, but clive burger is still a rather underwhelming burger experience. perhaps it's best as a late-night, post-ship and anchor pit stop, replete with a beer, before the (staggering)walk home?

i ordered a doublecheeseburger and fries and also a cola. the total bill came out to 17.50 for just me. aside from the outrageous prices the burger was extremely greasy! i felt sick the whole day from eating half of the burger and one quarter of the small fries. i would not recommend clive burger to anyone.

unimpressed to say the least. burger was dry as a bone, tomato was green and still had the core in it, not pleasant. i did like the bun, but the processedcheesethey tried to pass off as cheddar was disappointing.
lastly, the profanity laced gangster rap blasting through the speakers was probably not the best choice in music considering the fact there were several children in the building. won't be back.
