husband and i came for brunch on a sunday morning. we didn't have to wait for a table which was good.

husband had the eggs and sausage with diced fried potatoes (their hash browns?) and subbed biscuits and gravy instead of toast. i had the colorado burrito which was filled with chili and scrambled eggs, topped with chili con queso (but was really just a cheese sauce) and served with chips, salsa, and sour cream.

all the food wasgoodbut it wasn't "wow!" we weren't blown away by it. i don't know if it's because we didn't get a special or whatever it is they're known for. we aren't sure we'll be back again and it's not on the top of our list.

food was slow to come out. it wasn't super busy but it took at least 20 mins to get our food when there was only 2 of us!

they do have freshly squeezed orange juice which wasgoodbut i wasn't too big of a fan because i don't like pulp in my orange juice. it wasn't cold either.

classen grill isgoodfor breakfast. a group of about 8 men have been eating at the classen grill each friday during august. we are generally happy with the food and service. it's an old established mom and pop operation. the decor is pretty dated and looks like it did 25 years ago. all that said, the food is pretty good. i usually get the short stack and they taste homemade. several in our group get the debris biscuit and it looksgoodand is a lot of food. i don't really care for the hashbrowns as they taste bland and overcooked. i looked at the posted menu and the prices are out of date. short stack is listed at 2.99 but today it is $4.99. service can begoodor at times slow. all in all, it is a nice place to eat breakfast.

i give them 1/5 stars. tried this place because they havegoodreviews, unfortunately we were all disappointed. 4 of us went and not 1 of us left with something to write home about. i ordered steak, eggs & potatoes.... i sent my steak back because it was purple on 1 side., the waitress said its the ink from the butcher.. i still returned it because i've ordered steaks at places where i was charged 50 bucks and didn't see any purple ink! this steak was maybe 10 bucks so... no! not eating purple steak, i don't care what the reason is! anyway, regular food for a regular place. i heard this place has been around for years... not sure how.

i went to classen grill this morning hoping for some delicious comfort food, but was sadly disappointed. the freshly squeezed orange juice tasted like it had been in the fridge a few days too long. the "dynamite" classen grill potatoes had an okay herb flavor to them, but the texture inside was pretty mushy, almost like baby food. our breakfast quesadilla sounded like a great idea, but the bright orange jalepeno cheddar tortilla was an eye sore, it was drowned in watery salsa, and the guacamole was brown inside and out. the biscuit debris might've hit the spot if the biscuits hadn't been burnt to a dark brown, but the final disappointment was the waiting. it was a busy saturday morning, but after being so disappointed by our food, we just wanted to go home. our credit card sat untouched on the table for agood10 minutes, so we swapped it for cash and just left.

great meal!. we had brunch here 31 august. we started off with the fresh squeezed oj (an expensive carafe at $10.89). we had various combinations of eggs, bacon, sausage, chicken fried steak, gravy, hash browns, and blueberry pancakes. *nothing* was left after the meal.

service was outstanding. the drinks were all good, including the iced tea. our check was $59.25, which i think is verygoodvalue even accounting for the oj. great stuff.

i really wanted to love this place. maybe it is because i am not a local or regular... but i was not greeted when i arrived, nor asked what i would like to drink

my server, i shall call him mike as i do not want to put him out there knowing what a server makes an hour.... but seriously?!?! i have more than worn a work uniform multiple times, as it is hard to perfectly launder and iron a work uniform every day, but do not look like you crawled out of the sewer on a freaking wednesday!!!! clean up. great your guest. believe it or not, i do not mind tipping above and beyond as long as you try.

again, i wanted to love it. but no coffee till i asked, (no refill till i asked) and hashbrowns that were so cold i almost broke a tooth..... come on!!! i know that these were cooked well into the am and reheated to make it onto my plate. it may have been 11am, but i am still payinggoodmoney to eat decent food. fail.

terrible experience on 4/13/13. i had heard such great things about this diner in local media but my experience there yesterday morning was very disappointing. i had planned a breakfast get-together for 11 of my closest friends of which about half of them new to the grill (my husband and i had eaten there our first time just a few weeks ago). our group gets together about every 2 months or so and we thought we'd try somewhere besides jimmy's egg (which is verygoodby the way). we arrived when they opened and the grill had only a handful of other diners in the place for the whole 90 minutes we were there. the waitress was probably one of the rudest ones i had run across in a long time and the food was terrible! they completely missed one whole order and when the replacement finally arrived it was cold - they hadn't even melted the cheese on the omelet! she sent that back and just told them to forget the whole thing because by this time everyone else was almost finished eating. there was no apology or anything and to add insult to injury they went ahead and charged her for her coffee! with another order of biscuits and gravy the biscuits were so small an additional order of english muffins was needed to make it a meal. the waitress was very rude to all - t was obvious that she did not want to wait on us even though the grill was nowhere near busy. i doubt any of us will ever darken the grill's door again. i guess we are going back to jimmy's next time for sure!

delicious & pretty food. yes, the place needs updating, but it was clean.
went for breakfast, and was expecting greasy diner food, but, no, what i got was ohmygod delicious! i had the veggie taquitos - the veggies were good, and there were lots of green chilies - it had so much flavor. the southwestern hashbrowns weregood- a nice, big flavorful order. the only thing i found lacking in flavor was the cheese grits, and i love cheese grits (mine, anyway) - i like that they were baked, but they had no flavor, and they need to use a sharper cheddar cheese (just my opinion).
the presentation of the food is very nice. everything i saw them serve looked delicious - the biscuit debris, chicken fried steak, and eggs benedict.
and our service was great.
i look forward to going again.

first time at classen grill today. had the coyote chicken sandwich with fries. sandwich was agoodsize & delicious! fries were thick cut and very crisp. our server was prompt & friendly.

restaurant looks old and a bit like a dive from the outside but don't let that change your mind. the food isgoodquality. i'll definitely come again. maybe try their breakfast menu next time.

my favorite breakfast joint!. yes, the building is in need of repair. yes, the tables are crammed in close together. yes, the art on the wall (which is for sale) can sometimes be atrocious. oh, and the parking sucks. but the food speaks for itself. it is my all-time favorite place to grab a delicious, satisfying breakfast on the cheap. i like my eggs over-medium, and they always get it just right. their bacon isn't the thin, transparent, almost-not-there slivers you get at ihop. the fried potatoes are hearty and satisfying. no tropicana to be found here. they have freshly-squeezed orange juice, squeezed right there in the restaurant (but be prepared to pay a premium for it - around $4 a glass). their waffles are sogoodyou almost don't need syrup, and their beignets (served with raspberry sauce) are a delicious treat. i can't speak for their lunch menu. i've never tried it, because every time i'm at classen grill i default to their tried and true breakfast menu.

agoodlittle breakfast place in belle isle. prices are about even with denny's, ihop, etc. don't know if a small glass of oj is worth $3, but it is fresh-squeezed, and it tastes good. got eggs, bacon, hash browns, and wheat toast, and it was all pretty good. probably will go back at some point.
