disappointed. went to the ceylon inn graceville last night for a birthday dinner. the only good thing about the experience was the ambience - it is lovely! while the ambience is an important part of the dining out experience, for me, the most important part is the food, followed by the service. sadly, ceylon inn graceville did not perform well at all in both these categories.
we were part of a large group that attended last night. we ordered the tibetan chicken chasha and i requested that mine be made medium hot, instead of the mild option according to the menu. we were unaware of what the others had ordered as we were a bit late and they had already ordered. the meals took a long time to arrive, but i wasn't too concerned by that as i can understand that saturday nights are busy everywhere and the good company helped. when the food eventually arrived, i realised that two of the others had also ordered the tibetan chicken chasha. i asked the server which one was the medium hot one, only to be very curtly and rudely told that all of them were medium hot instead of mild, that he didn't take the order, he only made the meal according to whoever took the order. points to note - there is no need to be rude to your customers, nor is it professional to be whinging about the lack of communication in your restaurant - it gives a very bad impression. determined not to ruin my evening, i ignored the rude server and proceeded with my meal, only to be extremely disappointed with what i had been served. the food was extremely mediocre, lacked seasoning and was missing something. certainly not one of my better indian meals and i do know my indian. we also felt cheated with the amount of food served. it was a very small serving for $18.50! one of our fellow diners had ordered a mild lamb dish, as they cannot handle heat at all. what they were served was a searingly hot dish, that even others who could handle the heat found too hot. the water was never topped up and nor were we asked how our meals were. in fact, except for taking our orders and serving us, there was no other contact from the staff, something that is very unusual for an indian restaurant, as all the other indian restaurants that we have been to; the service has been extremely friendly and courteous. we had to ask for the bill - again i can understand that they were very busy, but shouldn't they have adequate (and courteous) staff for a saturday night?
all in all, a very disappointing experience and i will certainly not be returning.
