disappointed. went to the ceylon inn graceville last night for a birthday dinner. the only good thing about the experience was the ambience - it is lovely! while the ambience is an important part of the dining out experience, for me, the most important part is the food, followed by the service. sadly, ceylon inn graceville did not perform well at all in both these categories.
we were part of a large group that attended last night. we ordered the tibetanchickenchasha and i requested that mine be made medium hot, instead of the mild option according to the menu. we were unaware of what the others had ordered as we were a bit late and they had already ordered. the meals took a long time to arrive, but i wasn't too concerned by that as i can understand that saturday nights are busy everywhere and the good company helped. when the food eventually arrived, i realised that two of the others had also ordered the tibetanchickenchasha. i asked the server which one was the medium hot one, only to be very curtly and rudely told that all of them were medium hot instead of mild, that he didn't take the order, he only made the meal according to whoever took the order. points to note - there is no need to be rude to your customers, nor is it professional to be whinging about the lack of communication in your restaurant - it gives a very bad impression. determined not to ruin my evening, i ignored the rude server and proceeded with my meal, only to be extremely disappointed with what i had been served. the food was extremely mediocre, lacked seasoning and was missing something. certainly not one of my better indian meals and i do know my indian. we also felt cheated with the amount of food served. it was a very small serving for $18.50! one of our fellow diners had ordered a mild lamb dish, as they cannot handle heat at all. what they were served was a searingly hot dish, that even others who could handle the heat found too hot. the water was never topped up and nor were we asked how our meals were. in fact, except for taking our orders and serving us, there was no other contact from the staff, something that is very unusual for an indian restaurant, as all the other indian restaurants that we have been to; the service has been extremely friendly and courteous. we had to ask for the bill - again i can understand that they were very busy, but shouldn't they have adequate (and courteous) staff for a saturday night?
all in all, a very disappointing experience and i will certainly not be returning.

average is an understatement. a friend and i decided to try something different and dine in at ceylon inn, after a recommendation from a friend.

to our surprise, average is the first word that came to mind after ourchickentikka entree.

we thought it may have been a slight mistake with a very bland tasting tikka sauce and disappointing thigh filletchickenpieces.

but let's get to mains with a sugar coated butterchickenand once again, thigh fillet tibetan chicken.

as i sit outside this establishment and belch the excessively cheesy and garlicky naan, i would recommend steering clear.

$70 for two people.. i would recommend elsewhere.

my girlfriend and i went to ceylon inn at graceville this evening and we we both agreed that this is 'the best' indian in brisbane. beautiful layout, good ambiance, friendly staff and the bestchickentikka masala i have had in brisbane.

i wouldn't mind someone taking me out here, though i wouldn't pay myself. ceylon inn is okay, decor is very exotic and staff seem to be friendly.
i myself love butterchickenand they do a pretty nice one, not the best locally nor the worst.

it always amazes me to read the negative comments about ceylon inn at graceville, because i've been there many times and it's been consistently fantastic. i have never been to india and don't know if it's "traditional" indian food, but i do know it's amazing. we went again recently - the decor is gorgeous, the staff are attentative, and the food comes quickly and is delicious. my personal favourite is the ceylonchicken- incredible! my friends last night had a prawn dish and a beef dish - both fabulous, and the beef just fell apart and melted in your mouth.

average - there's much better around. i'm a big fan of authentic indian cuisine. if you are too, i wouldn't recommend ceylon inn. don't get me wrong, it was "nice," but nothing spectacular.
the atmosphere is great, the decor is interesting and the swinging chairs were different, if not altogether practical.
we ordered a banquet, consisting of 1 meat dish and a variety of side dishes. we asked for lamb, and we received chicken. after waiting for an hour for our meals, i wasn't about to take it back and wait again. besides, we don't mindchickeneither, so we dug in.
the highlight of the meal was the raita. honestly, all other dishes were a little bland. not bad, just bland. from an award winning restaurant, i was expecting much more.
the service was slow and a little clipped. nobody asked if we were enjoying our meal, otherwise i would have happily pointed out thechicken/ lamb mix up.

we wont be recommending ceylon inn to our friends. a night in india (toowong), bombay dhaba (west end), punjabi palace (springfield) and singh's (corinda) are all much better restaurants.

awful experience. not told when booking that no license yet, and byo only - had to leave in car to buy wine....75 minutes for main meals, main meals both wrong, then accused by staff that we had ordered what was served...right meals served soon after with an apology, but they tasted awful!! butterchickennot creamy at all and tasted almost identical to thechickentikka masala, which was ordered medium but had no spice at all...

used to enjoy food when in previous location and was looking forward to evening - new fit-out is lovely, but not enticed to return as meals were lowest quality indian we have eaten in some time.

after we paid and complained about service and food, cashier tried to 'convince' manager to refund us - was a little too late for that for us and we just informed them that we wouldn't be back.
