how could i possibly be near hoboken and not visit this famous bakery?
i expected the confusion that we see on tv, but i was wrong. yes, there was a line outside and inside the store, but no confusion at all. in fact, the line inside was well organized and on the outside people waiting slightly apart from the store so other people could take a photo or something.
when i entered, i realized that the store was smaller than it looks on tv and, unfortunately, no one of the valastro family was there. if you are a fan of cake boss, like me, you can fell a little bit disappointed, but i think, you should go there anyway.
there was a display with so many well-decorated cakes and all of them seemed delicious, it was very difficult to choose, but i decided to order three: a cannoli, one of the specialities, a 'lobster tail' filled with salted caramel and achocolatecake with achocolatemousse filling.
i'm gonna be honest.. i was very disappointed with the cannoli, i didn't like it at all, but the other two cakes were great, so in the end, it was worth the visit.

we were fortunate enough to be around the area at some stupid early time like 7:30 on a sunday morning so we decided to check what all the "cake boss" hype is about..

glad we went early, a few minutes after we arrived a massive tour bus parked up and dozens of tourists flooded the place, that's when the post office style ticketing system kicked in...

we had a carrot cake cup cake, a whitechocolatemousse thing, & a cappuccino.. the carrot cake was unfortunate.. defiantly not like a boss, not even a janitor... white choc mousse was very good, as one would expect, & cappuccino was good too, albeit a little under filled

the shop is very nicely kept, not too many seats though.. you do feel a buzz in the atmosphere both from staff & excited tourists (some like silly star struck teenagers).. the designs are just fabulous, but at the end of the day i was there to eat cake and left underwhelmed.. unless you happen to be around stupid early, it's just not worth the queue..

terrible experience!. my husband bought me a cake from carlo's bakery to celebrate my 50th birthday. he ordered the cake in advance via telephone with a cake consultant. i had once had achocolatecupcake with fudge frosting from carlo's bakery which i loved.. my husband orderedchocolatecake with cannoli filling and thechocolatefudge frosting. he also asked for lots of roses to be put on the cake. the cake was 1/2 a sheet cake and he was quoted a price of $110. my husband said the consultant had difficulty taking the order and was talking about his upcoming vacation. fast forward to my birthday. my husband drove 2 hours to pick up the cake. the cake had vanilla buttercream frosting and 4 roses! he complained and they did add a few more roses, but the frosting was wrong. he had to call the ordering department and all anyone says is i have to talk to my boss. today he was told they had to talk to angelo about the cake. fyi a 1/2 sheet cake pricing begins at $85, so obviously we were ripped off. my party was yesterday and he had no choice other than to take the cake that was marked as being our order. my husband drove 2 hours home. the cake was the worst tasting cake i ever had. in fact, only 1 guest liked the cake. i had been so looking forward to my 50th birthday cake from buddy. it was a huge disappointment. i think perhaps buddy needs to take more care of his own bakery. it is a joke that he has a show where he travels around the country fixing other people's bakeries. buddy, you need to stay at home and pay attention to the quality of your own bakery. we will never again go to carlo's bakery and i caution others' who plan to order a celebration cake from the bakery. it's definitely not worth the hype. the cakes i've had from grocery stores, even walmart, are better than this!

vanilla cupcake withchocolateicing. we were amazed at the short line up on a saturday morning over the christmas holidays, we only waited about 10 minutes to get in. once inside it is very overwhelming with people trying to see items at the counter and order items. it gets crazier when one of the main individuals from the show comes down for a cameo. we ordered four cupcakes, a fruit tart, tiramisu and cannoli. my husband said the fruit tart was the best of the items he ordered. of the cupcakes the vanilla withchocolatewas the best by far. it was great for a tourist stop.

who does not know the cake boss, buddy valastro? his show on tv is very popular and there is always a very long line in front of his bakery in hoboken, new jersey. but know that if you live in hoboken, you can skip the line: just show an id that proves you are living there. my first experience with carlo's bakery was so so: couple of years ago, i bought a cannoli and did not like it. i thought at that time that it might have been because i did not eat it right away and put it in the refrigerator for few hours. then, one of my colleagues brought a tiramisu and achocolatecake at work: i loved the tiramisu but thechocolatecake was way too sweet. so we decided to try again. the cake boss is known for his insane cakes that he is building on his show. for sure they look spectacular, but i am not sure they taste that good considering the amount of fondant and rice crispy treat he puts in it.  when we were there, it was packed! the problem is that we could not go around and look at the cak

good, but not the best.. went on christmas, probably not the best decision as we waited 1.5 hours in line. the thing with carlos bakery i's that the reputation it builds from it's tv show makes it hard to impress customers high expectations. this was reflected in thechocolateand cream cake and the custard horn which was good, but didn't meet expectations. however the whitechocolatecoated strawberrys were delicious, juicy and definately a highlight.

love the show, love the family, love the place, hate the food!. i first visited carlo's 2 years ago and fell in love... delicious pastries, no lines, tables inside to sit at, and very reasonable prices. however, i returned to visit last month, and was absolutely horrified... even though the line down the sidewalk was an hour, and then the wait inside the store was another hour, i would have been able to deal with that if it weren't for the fact that most of the food was disgusting, some was tolerable, and only one item was good. we spent $86 on cream puffs, napoleans, cannolis, achocolatemousse pastry, cupcakes, a crumb cake, and a cannoli cake. the pastry cream inside the cream puff was hard and rubbery and tasted like fish... completely inedible and went right in the garbage, the cannolis were tolerable, but really had no flavor whatsoever, the napoleans lacked flavor also but faintly tasted like lemon (a traditional napolean should be vanilla), the cupcakes were average, the crumb cake was very dry, the cannoli cake ($26!!) was flavorless. the only thing that really was good was a very smallchocolatemousse pastry. everything else ended up in the garbage. conclusion: overpriced, underflavored, and not worth the wait. what a shame... they used to be awesome! maybe they got too big for their britches! just to add some credibility to this review... i'm a baker living in florida and my family in france were bakery owners for decades... so i think its fair to say i know a thing or two about what good pastry should be like.

all around good time. we went to the bakery to sample some of their famous goods last weekend. i bought a small fondant cake, cannolis, chocolatecovered strawberries, and some assorted pastries. everything was delicious. the cake was worth every penny!!!!

i see a lot of people reporting poor customer service...the staff was very helpful and attentive. the bakery was very busy and they were doing the best they could to keep the crowds under control.

rude. a friend bought a cake to our "gettogether" and it was delicious. it hadchocolateicing and white mousse inside. i asked where he got it from and he told me from carlo's bakery. so i went there to purchase one. the lady looked like she didnt want to be there and gave me the vibe that she really didnt want to wait on me. when she finally did, she didnt know what cake i was talking about and didnt bother to try to sell me another cake. i just left and never went back.

good cake. during the holidays i went down to carlo's bakery and spent an hour and a half on line to get two cakes and a couple of platters of cookies and cupcakes. it was well worth the wait! i got achocolatemocha cake with strawberries that was to die for. i also purchased a birthday cake for one of my relatives that was born on xmas, whipped cream, vanilla cake with strawberries and custard, it was absolutely wonderful and there were cute little rings and so forth tucked into the cake as an added bonus. the cupcakes were amazing i never saw my cousins eat cupcakes slowly before because they knew there were no second helpings and actually savored them! cookies were delicious. it was kind of on the pricey side for all the treats but i'd spend the money again in a heart beat for those wonderful goodies!
