had the best freshprawnsat a reasonable price. thought i was in mozambique! my husband's ribs were also succulent and perfect the staff was friendly and helpful and brought out 4 different freshprawnsfor me to decide on size. sadly the decor is stuck in the eighties, with plastic decor red paper serviettes which i saw many years back. a bit of cleaning can be done on the ship's and wall decor. the atmosphere was family friendly, we had a lovely time.

we were staying at a health spa in hartees for a night and did not want to have supper at the spa so decided to go into hartees. must say it was disappointing as most restaurants are closed on a monday in hartees. caravela was one of the places open. i ordered a pina colada cocktail which was sickly sweet and a pre-mixed cocktail out of a box. the waitress was clueless and when i asked why there was no pineapple or cherries as stated on the menu she walked off and then brought back a plate with a few cherries. we ordered a starter garlic snails which was nothing to write home about. for mains we had the 12 peri periprawnsand the peri peri chicken. theprawnswere cooked well and had great flavour. the chicken however was a bit dry and the peri peri sauce on the side was riddled with vinegar.

after a lot of searching for a place to eat in harties, realising alot of places are closed on a monday, we settled for caravela. having a weakness for portuguese chicken this place had to be a winner. to start we ordered 2 cocktails, a pino colada & a mango silk, both were very very sweet and are made from a premixed cocktail mix. you could tell that the barman wasn't experienced or they just didn't have one, as i asked for a classic mojito and was unable to get one even though they probably had all the ingredients in the bar.

we ordered the garlic snails in a garlic butter sauce for starters. the dish was good, but nothing fantastic.

for mains we ordered 2 dishes to share, the 12 queenprawnswhich were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious; and the half chicken which was a little over cooked and the peri-peri sauce was overpowered by vinegar.

all in all an average restaurant with average food.

love this place...i will easily drive from pta just to come here. love the vibe...great music...felt like i was back in mocambique at a local rest! i had theprawnsand chicken...it was so flavourful...and juicy. love love love it!
