the food was amazing! i'd recommend thechickenand prawns. quick turn around time. genuine portuguese ambience. totally awesome! will be back....three meals was not enough 😂

went there and we were told that food would take a bit longer! fair enough! after two hours! we got food! my 200 g rump steak was a 100 g! my hubby ordered 1/2chickenand 400g ribs! the ribs were 100g and thechickenwas already cut up into pieces! did not look like a half chicken! music was terrible when it played and then no music for rest of day! looked like they were trying to take short cuts and patching together a meal! we were not happy at all and will never go back! every single table was complaining! if you want cope with the amount of people in your store at once then either book in more staff or take out some tables ! we also have a restaurant and the really overpaid for what we got

r240 for whole chicken. grossly overpriced. the going price for achickenis usally around r100-r120. we felt very ripped off when the bill arrived as it was ordered as a take away

delicious and authentically made portuguese food. you really can't be disappointed ordering portugese stylechickenand prawns! decently priced combos and meals. service was good but i couldn't really get a feel for the ambience due to it being really quiet at night. there's also a bar/bingo area - very traditionally portuguese! definitely a restaurant worth visiting when in hartbeespoort

very surprised that this restuarant only has a 3.3 rating, we been here at least 4 times and have never been disappointed with the quality and flavor of the meals. today was equally good, i had thechickenand prawn combo (peri peri) and hubby had thechickenand rib combo. food took a bit long to arrive but it was very busy so that was to be expected. agree with other reviews that the place needs some updating!

my family and i went to caravela on a sunday afternoon after a day trip to haartebeestpoort. we had been there previously and enjoyed it however this time was a major disappointment. the food was below average and the service very slow.
on the positive side we ordered a selection of starters to share amongst the table which were tasty. the haloumi cheese was soft and the trinchado was tender and well seasoned. however the mains were not great. my husband ordered a portuguese steak which was tough with an egg that was still slimy. the chips seemed to be cooked in old oil. my mother ordered sardines which had been gutted prior to cooking resulting in them being dry and my lemon and herbchickenhad no flavour and being dry. calamari was also ordered which was actually the best my husband had in ages. it was really soft and very tasty. even with the few positives of the meals, it was seriously disappointing as we have been there many times before and always enjoyed our meal. i was left less than impressed.

we were staying at a health spa in hartees for a night and did not want to have supper at the spa so decided to go into hartees. must say it was disappointing as most restaurants are closed on a monday in hartees. caravela was one of the places open. i ordered a pina colada cocktail which was sickly sweet and a pre-mixed cocktail out of a box. the waitress was clueless and when i asked why there was no pineapple or cherries as stated on the menu she walked off and then brought back a plate with a few cherries. we ordered a starter garlic snails which was nothing to write home about. for mains we had the 12 peri peri prawns and the peri peri chicken. the prawns were cooked well and had great flavour. thechickenhowever was a bit dry and the peri peri sauce on the side was riddled with vinegar.

after a lot of searching for a place to eat in harties, realising alot of places are closed on a monday, we settled for caravela. having a weakness for portuguesechickenthis place had to be a winner. to start we ordered 2 cocktails, a pino colada & a mango silk, both were very very sweet and are made from a premixed cocktail mix. you could tell that the barman wasn't experienced or they just didn't have one, as i asked for a classic mojito and was unable to get one even though they probably had all the ingredients in the bar.

we ordered the garlic snails in a garlic butter sauce for starters. the dish was good, but nothing fantastic.

for mains we ordered 2 dishes to share, the 12 queen prawns which were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious; and the halfchickenwhich was a little over cooked and the peri-peri sauce was overpowered by vinegar.

all in all an average restaurant with average food.
