i’ve been all about brunch lately and last weekend was no exception. i headed to griffintown’s burgundylionfor a british take on a boozy morning meal. i went for a twist on a classic: the english toast (crumpet french toast and lyle’s golden syrup) which honestly tasted like an english muffin drenched in maple syrup, and gen went for the full english breakfast which looked amazing. -lea 

honest good good food!. have been going to burgundylionfor a few years now and they have never failed to satisfy! just great honest food, delicious and in such a fun place. great staff, james is a real gent! a real pub not far from home.

the comment made by one reviewer about there being preferential treatment and service accorded to some patrons and not others sums up all of my experiences at the burgundylionand underlines the lack of professionalism allowed to thrive and flourish. i don't have the patience to put up with a school cafeteria mentality where the supposed cool kids are going to serve their friends first, ensure they have attentive service and act as though the other paying customers are to be only served between inside jokes with their friends. all that being said, i just want to pay my money, be served and treated as equal to customers and enjoy great food, which is difficult at this place because the employees are allowed to act as if they are doing customers a favourite when it comes to seat selection and service levels at the table. many of the staff are even too cool to smile or even be friendly as they honestly feel they are doing customers a favourite. very warped perception of reality in the burgundy lion.

the food and service are way below average. the food is way below average. i had the tasteless portobello burger. another problem is that while the place obviously hires their young and trendy male and female waiters based on looks and not their customer service skills or waiting experience, what you also get thrown in free of charge is a healthy dose of attitude that borders on arrogance. a group of us went for a late brunch on sunday may 13 and wanted to sit next to the window. simple request. the seats were empty (no reservation sign on the table) and restaurant had lots of other seating available and no line up at the door. when the waitress arrived to seat us, we politely told her our seating preference. she then asked a guy tending bar (i guess the floor manager) who told her no. she then told us "you are sitting there" and pointed to seats near the back of the restaurant. we were starving and between errands, so we did as we were told (although we the paying customers). i would have definitely complained, but we were starving and it would have made my brunch companions uncomfortable. the employees are arrogant. they have little respect for customers. the feeling given to customers is that you're lucky we let you eat here, so shut up and do as told. the food is then below average and the place is too loud to have an average conversation without raising your voice. avoid this place and go somewhere that respects their customers and where the male and female staff do not view themselves as doing you a favour! to sum up... the food is average and the staff lack respect for paying customers.

great english pub. their own beer is great matched with the best fish and chips in the area. the ambiance is very welcoming and pleasant. burgundylionis a unique place in montreal. you wont be disappointed.

d went out with friends the other night! d always wanted to try burgundylionfor a british meal. it was a great experience! the scotch egg was tasty but only with the sauce. the sausages were delicious but missing juice. the mocktail was done to perfection but not well mixed so the worcester sauce was only on the top... the ambiance was good, cozy but hot! d will wear something lighter at the next visit :p

burgundylionis a well known pub on notre dame, the famous street that is the home of joe beef. this pub has high ratings in most restaurant review websites and their food was good, so no surprise there. one of my friends was happy to find out that they had the largest whiskey collection in quebec and ordered a tasting set which comes with three different glasses of selected whiskey. he threw fancy descriptions to each cup like “woody” “smokey” “creamy” “fruity” “dry” but to my nose it was rubbing alcohol and it did it’s job lol. i’m happy as long as it comes with that second quality. speaking of alcohol… happy new year it is now 2014 aaand life does not seem any better. but we made it this far so props to you all. classic nye tales that you’ll easily hear anywhere. but i drank so much out of poor judgement skills that followed the first four cups of whiskey and two bottles of beer… and now i’m gagging just at the thought of alcohol. never again am i drinking that much. ...i thought i would share with you, a restaurant in my new neighborhood: burgundy lion. it’s not exactly a new find. i’ve been going there for quite a while, but i’m never disappointed. burgundylionis a british pub serving up pub-style english fare. you can be sure to find all the soccer football games (hockey too!) playing on their televisions. i’ve been told it’s also a great atmosphere for drinks at night. on this particular occasion, however, i went for lunch with alex when we were apartment hunting. for drinks, alex ordered the burgundylionale , their house brew, and i o

i went to the burgundylionand left at home. though i cannot speak for the food i can for the bar. as someone who works at a bar i will speak for the bar. i loved the service for starters, our bar tender was busy but talkative and attentive. the best part of going to a bar is having an interesting server. she let us try this interesting shot, there was espresso in it. also my gin tonic were perfect, not that one can actually screw up a gin tonic that badly but she really did a good job with it. the decor is also nice and young to say the least. kind of hipster type of feel with the people and the decor. recommended!

très beau pub british. bon choix de bières et de bouffe: fish ‘n’ chips pas mal bon, sans parler de la poutine et des burgers! l’atmosphère est beaucoup plus de bar que de restaurant.  il y a un bar où on peut s’asseoir juste pour prendre une bière. c’est un bon endroit pour commencer ou finir une soirée. moins idéal pour les dates je dirais, mais bien plaisant en gang. l’été, il y a même une terrasse à l’avant. prise sur le site web officiel mon plat préféré est la salade cambridgeshire, contrairement à mon habitude de burger. il y a du bleu dedans, mais je demande toujours de changer pour du cheddar.   bonne place pour souper et ensuite rester prendre quelques bières. c’est un des spots les plus intéressants de la rue notre-dame. il y a même des matchs de rugby à la télé. burgundylionsur urban spoon :

burgundylionpub is a trendy spot that serves english pub food in a fun, busy, loud pub atmosphere. they have a little bit of everything but sticking to what is "british" is always a safe bet. bangers and mash, sausage and mashed potatoes with a gravy or spicy fish cakes with a mild curry dipping sauce. on my last visit,

voici un resto/pub que j'ai visité l'hiver dernier. en plein mois de mars, c'était une belle suggestion. puis j'ai oublié d'en parler. quand j'y ai repensé cette été, je ne trouvais pas que ce que j'avais mangé était un bon conseil sous la chaleur. puis, l'automne est arrivé et c'est redevenu le genre de bouffe qu'on a envie de manger. comme vous l'avez sans doute deviné, le burgundylionest un pub british, où l'on va pour prendre une bière. comme dans les pubs, il y a de la bouffe pas mal « greasy spoon », mais avec une coche au-dessus de ce qu'on est habitué. le pot-au-feu d'agneau braisé (ci-bas) recouvert de pommes de terre tranchées en est un bonne exemple. c'était savoureux et la très bonne salade venait équilibrer le repas. ceux qui sont traditionels et ne mangent que du poisson le vendredi seront gâtés avec le « fish and chips » fait avec des gros morceaux de poisson (dont j'ai malheureusement oublié la sorte). bien sûr, le classique gros hamburger pl

day care. went to theliontoday and was surprised at amount of very young children there with families. now i'm a father of 2 now grown up daughters but when you go to a pub in england, there is a family room for just this. that's what the bl should do. have the noisy young families upstairs. if i wanted that experience i could have gone to a family restaurant.
and of course what visit is not complete without the mandatory gum on the back of chair that gets stuck on the inside of the coat.
this was my 3 time there and was very disappointed to see the pub being turned into a children's area. let's not mix up the pub with macdonalds.

barriga llena, corazon contento.. i am new to montreal and my boyfriend and i discovered this place last night on a hunt for burgers and beer. we both were very thankful to have happened upon burgundylionbecause it really hit the spot. the food was not mind-blowing but it certainly made us happy. i ordered a brrrgundy toddy which warmed my lil heart and my boy got a guinness (can't go wrong with that). it was pretty busy (on a monday night!) with a kind of professional/30 something crowd. i guess it's a little pricey and the service was not outstanding in any way...but i walked away feeling satisfied nonetheless. go here if you want to escape the cold, eat some classic english pub food, hang out for a while and enjoy the cozy ambiance.
