what better place than montreal, quebec to get our first taste of authentic british food? okay, fine, quebec’s not quite the province you think of when you think about having british food, but we heardgoodthings about the burgundy lion, a british pub, so we figured why not? in any case, it’d at least be a small bastion of english speakers in a predominantly french city.
the full english breakfast ($13)

2 eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, blood pudding, mushrooms, baked beans, potatoes, fried tomato, and crumpet

we’ve always heard/seen/read about british food and their distinctive breakfast, so what better place to start than a “full english breakfast”? needless to say, it’s quite a plateful. the eggs, overeasy on this plate, were done as well as eggs can be. the sausage was…interesting. instead of the savoury breakfast sausages that we are accustomed to, this sausage, seen in the front-left on top of the ham in the photo above, was spiced differently and was a bit drier, less greasy, and…scratchier? definitely unique. the ham and mushrooms were well done, tender, and seasoned well. the bacon was also different from the thinly sliced, smoked, and salty breakfast bacon you would usually get. this is a thick piece of bacon meat, smoked and barbecued with a sweet, almost candied flavour. it was pleasantly delicious. the blood pudding was certainly distinct: while dan wasn’t sure if he liked it or not, though he leans toward not. while the taste of blood was definitely distinct, it’s muted by the spices and flavouring of the other ingredients. we can’t really tell if the fried tomato was fried or not, it was probably seared in a pan. it tasted like a tomato. the baked beans had a relatively strong tomato base. typically dan prefers the beans to be a bit sweeter, but this is likely more authentic to its british roots. the home fries were pretty standard, but spiced well with paprika and had a pleasant smokiness to is flavour. finally, the crumpet. we’ve never had a crumpet before either. it’s a bit like a spongy hybrid between a crêpe and an english muffin. it’s quite interesting, though we’re not sure if we ate it properly (with the right toppings, etc.); bland probably wasn’t the way to go.

nice place, gooddrinks but be careful what you order on the food menu. the place is very fun, laid back vibe and waiters are nice, but the food is bad, especially for the price you pay. most of the choices on the menu are prepared with very little care and taste like frozen microwave dishes. today i tried their tomato soup as an appetizer (7$). i dont expect tomato soup to be exceptionnal, and i wouldve been happy with the regular campbell tomato soup, but what i got was insulting: primo spaghetti sauce. yes, i got tomato spaghetti sauce to eat with the spoon, for 7$. i made my friends taste it as well and they all agreed it was the primo spaghetti sauce we all know you get at the grocery. when i told the waitress about it, she told me i was entirely wrong and that "everything is home made". i highly doubt it. my friend also didnt enjoy his fish & chips. there is barely any fish!

overallgoodbut.... i recently went there for breakfast and the food was great. i like how you can get crumpets instead of boring toast, and their marmalade is fantastic. the service wasgoodtoo. i wish coffee was included ($2.50 for average filtered coffee is a bit much). you might as well get an espresso at that point. also, on the menu it says ``fresh orange juice` but i saw them pouring orange juice from what seemed to be a store bought jug behind the bar. i hope people enjoyed their $3.50 glass of tropicana or whatever it was! still, it is agoodplace. i would go there once in a while since they serve things other breakfast places don`t.

diva #1 went to high school with a group of pretty amazing guys that now, long after graduation, she still loves to go out with. when we were in high school no sweet 16 was complete without them, in cegep they made clubbing fun, in university house parties weren’t complete without their insanity and now they make any restaurant or bar night a great goddamn time. conflicting schedules make getting jb and the boys a little hard to get together but diva #1 loves bringing the gang together forgoodtimes, a lot of drinking and trips down memory lane. a late celebration of jb’s birthday brought us to burgundy lion, a british pub on notre dame in griffintown.  besides being a restaurant, it has a full bar including whiskey blends, highlands, a whiskey tasting menu and of course the usual variety of cocktails, wines and champagne.

i went to the burgundy lion and left at home. though i cannot speak for the food i can for the bar. as someone who works at a bar i will speak for the bar. i loved the service for starters, our bar tender was busy but talkative and attentive. the best part of going to a bar is having an interesting server. she let us try this interesting shot, there was espresso in it. also my gin tonic were perfect, not that one can actually screw up a gin tonic that badly but she really did agoodjob with it. the decor is also nice and young to say the least. kind of hipster type of feel with the people and the decor. recommended!

good spot in little burgundy. this trendy english pub in one of my faves in the point saint charles - little burgundy area of town. they have a reasonable selection of cold beer. i quite like the bier brier which i was told is brewed close by in st henri.
the staff are friendly and the food isgoodalthough they could expand their menu a bit i think.
can't go wrong with the fish and chips. there are plenty of restaurants that screw up this meal, too much batter, too much oil but, they do agoodjob.
i have eaten at the bar and at table.
can't go too wrong. the only drawback is that it can be a bit noisy.

for something different.... went there today with bunch of friends, personally never had an "english" breakfast so no comparison to stand at. he place had a pub-ish/hip atmosphere and was crowded.
food: there are a few brunch & lunch choices on the menu for the time we went. we all ordered a brunch item. so seems like none of us are a fan of blood pudding~ but everything else was pretty good, not extraordinary but decent.
service: good, even though we monopolised the table for a long time while waiting for other ppl, we never felt pressured to order or chased when we finished. the waiters also came often to check on us. only a little downside, why bring water to all the ppl at the table except one person? who does that?
price: reasonable to the proportion of the dishes i find.
overall:goodplace to hang out and not afraid to be too noisy, the food is ok but for brunch i would rather go to somewhere else.

very average!. food is really average here, don't expect a memorable dinner. for example, the fish & chips is asgoodas the traditional belle province diner chain next door. regular selection of drinks that you find in an "irish like" pub. staff is generally neutral, disorganized often and you need to expect some favoritism if you are not a regular customer; they serve "their people" first and you need to raise your hand few times to get their attention. gave them a 3rd chance and gave-up... not worth it!

a little bit of burgundy charm. love the neighborhood, food is typically english, not stellar but tasty nonetheless, plus they pour a mean pint of guiness, prettygoodfor brunch too if you're looking for something a little different
