i loved that i could choose my own toppings and i also loved that i can have a gluten free bun.  the fries are prettygoodbut nothing to write home about.  i really enjoy the casual atmosphere.  they have this old school stand up arcade machine i like to play.  its also close the beach and i had my first date with my girlfriend here.

first, know what you're getting into: order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. it took over half an hour to get a couple of burgers , and it wasn't that busy.  maybe our order got put back by disorganization, or maybe they had to kill and grind the lamb for my burger. probably they just don't have enough guys cooking. they didn't have the shakes ready with the burgers. the burgers were quite good. they were under-seasoned and a bit dry, but clearly hand made fromgoodmeat. the fries and shakes were excellent.  given the low overhead business model i think the prices were clearly too high.  apart from better fries. you can get just asgooda burger and shakes at fatburger for about 60% as much.

i arrived shortly after they opened for the day and the place was empty. i was greeted by blaring music and the yelling of the guy behind the counter stating the menus were on the wall.
after reading through the order sheet and making my selections i went and handed it over. i kept my order pretty basic. the true test of a burger joint is their ability to do the basics. i ordered a bacon cheddar burger on the gluten free bun with a side of fries and bottle of water. i thought $15.80 was reasonable for a "custom" burger.
i watched as the patty was tossed on the grill and noticed that it was some pretty anemic looking beef. pale, barely pink, bordering on grey. the fries were shaken out of a plastic bag into the fry basket next. i went and had a seat at this point. close to 15 minutes later my name was called and i picked up my burger. i asked for my bottle of water and he barked that it was in the fridge. that was the end of my staff interaction.
i settled in with hopes of a brighter future now that my burger was in hand and i discovered the fries were in fact fresh cut. sadly the future was dull and bland. the fry portion did not warrant the $3.75 charge. it was served in a small takeout container. i bit into the fries, and yes they were fresh and hot, but the had absolutely no seasoning. who serves unsalted fries by default? fries need to be salted immediately out of the fryer to get it to stick. so i went in hunt of salt. there were several different flavoured salts available but i wasn't about to mess with those things.
back to my wobbly table, i unwrapped my burger and lettuce spilled everywhere from it. not fresh, green, leafy lettuce; but pre shredded, pale, borderline rotting, iceberg lettuce... i lifted the the bun top off to examine the contents and the lettuce was all the same. for one of my 4 toppings i had chosen dill pickles. or dill pickle to be more precise. there was a single slice of pickle on there. next i noticed how firm the bun was. this can be agoodthing in the burger world. form buns tend to stay together better.
well i dove into my burger. i could barely bite through the bun. after i did i was met with the resistance of a very overcooked patty. slowly my hopes of the bright future completely disappeared.... bite of burger, swig of water, and repeat. it was all i could do to get it down. after 4 or 5 bites, the bun began to crumble. it reminded me of cornbread, but without thegoodflavour.
at this point i gave up completely and just moved back to my fries.
this is the place to go to if you want a dry, overpriced burger, in a noisy space, while the staff yells at each other in an attempt to talk. the constantly changing music, thanks to an ipod and staff with nothing better to do, is just an added annoyance.
if i am going to pay for a premium burger, i expect to be served a premium burger. an obvious attempt to mimic vera's in vancouver, this place fails miserably and should be avoided

best burgers in town!. i absolutely love the burgers and yam fries! i find myself craving the burgers every now and then. they are seriously the best burgers in town, and i find d myself moaning with each bite.
the staff are really nice and enjoyable. the burgers can start to add up if you add a lot of extras, i don't tend to add many extras (but even without the extras, you still have a lot ofgoodchoices).
it is so delicious that i think its worth the money and it fills you up.
i also like the whole idea of creating the burger how you want it, that's what originally drew me to this place.

wow, my mouth just watered talking about it....
check it out!goodfood, goodstaff and worth the money. :)

had heard a lot of great things about this place and was very disappointed...burger was what i would expect at a crappy concession stand, was greasy and tasted like nothing, fries were undercooked and soggy. staff seemed more focused on playing around the cooking agoodmeal. also was expensive for the food we received. defiantly will not be returning or reccomending.

not that great... hopefully an off night?. we were really looking forward to eating here after seeing the reviews but were sadly disappointed. the idea is amazing, you pick all of your own toppings right down to the bun. it's a little place with seating outside, we sat filling out our clip board with the burgers we wanted once done we took them inside to place our order and pay. right after us there was a rush of about 15 burger orders and only 2 people working. after a half hour we got our burgers (there were 3 of us) and they were cold. we ordered one side of "hand cut fries", beer battered onion rings and yam fries. the fries were flavourless and soggy not salted at all, the yam fries were burnt and the onion rings were super soggy and there were maybe 6 small onion rings in the box. all 3 of us had the beef burger and they were super dry and burnt. the 55 bun was verygoodthough. it was very overpriced for how much food we received and the quality. it was really too bad because we love little burger places.

cool little burger joint for inexpensive outside dining. one of the co-owners of burger 55 was inspired to create the neat, little burger restaurant while on a road trip through the states. traveling stimulatesgoodideas and burger 55 is just that. you have the choice to fully customize your burger with type of meat, bun, toppings, and sauces. i decided to go with one of the already established options (the 55 signature burger) but for those who like to really get into creating their "perfect" burger, the options are plentiful. you can watch the 2 guys behind the counter working away as they assemble each burger and, as a cook, i found it neat that they are able to put so many cooking utilities in such a small area. there is literally just enough room for 2 guys and their burger / french fry making gear, but they make it work. my burger was well-done, just how i like it, the toppings were plentiful, the buddha sauce has a nice tangy-kick. my salad was made with spinach, goodamounts of tomato, onions, and (what made my day) sprouts! i love sprouts, and i never see them in salads unless it's at a vegetarian place. nice touch. the fries were crispy and delicious. the whole meal cost me about $17 and i was filled up. : ) for somebody who just wanted a burger and fries, the meal would have been around $12. a great little jewel of a restaurant, perfect for outdoor dining in the warm penticton summer.

p.s : for original nintendo gamers like myself, the guys have a copy of burger time set up, and if you can get a score of 20,000 (you can practice on the burger 55 website) your burger is free! nice touch guys! : )

underwhelming. i hope the owners of burger 55 read this, because i feel like they have a cool concept, but i wish they would improve a few things.

the joint itself is a little shack, very small, with a few outside tables. when you walk in the door, they have a bunch of clipboards hanging up - you take one, and a pencil, and you fill out what you want to order. the basic beef burger is $5.95, cheese a dollar per slice, bacon is a buck-and-a-half, special sauce is 55 cents... it adds up fast. 2 of us had 2 burgers, one order of fries and 2 pops, and it was over $25. that's way too much for this kind of place.

but, i would be willing to pay that kind of money if the place was outstanding. unfortunately, the burger was dry, despite being a little pink (which i don't mind). there was barely any ketchup, mustard or mayo on it to make up for it. the bun was also dry, not especially soft, and a bit hard to swallow. it looked as though it may have even been previously frozen, but whatever it was, it certainly was not fresh that morning. the cheese was not melted. seriously. that is just not right. i don't want a pile of grated cheddar on the bottom of my bun, i want cheese melted on top of my burger. and the only bacon available was "canadian" bacon. the fries were close to good, but were underdone, and weren't ready until almost 10 minutes after we got our burgers. not cool.

as it stands now, i would not go back. but a few changes could convince me: juicier meat, melted cheese, real bacon, agoodbun. really, agoodburger is not rocket science. for now, i will not be going back.

great burgers. this quaint burger shack has an alluring mood and care free feeling. it carries with it a bit of a nastalgic sentament. a great little location that was an old tire shed. these guys have turned it into the talk of the town. it has great burgers, a decent menu and friendly staff. it is a little small so unless the weather isgoodwhere you can eat outside on the picknick tables, don't expect more than about 3 seats inside. i recomment it!
