where dessert nirvana awaits in the form of the vanilla gaufre, a dense, moist confection served hot off the iron. although bruges sells the lighter liege waffle that i was more familiar with, they cannot hold a candle to these small, dense little jewels.

can i say...yum..yum..yum...and yum!. waffles and i mean "authentic" waffles are yeast based and the only place you can get them in slc for now is definitely at bruges waffles! these waffles are truly worth the wait and experience! in addition you must have the "house" whipped creme completely slather your waffle! my favorite is the cinnamon with whip cream and strawberries! oh...bruges....i dream of your waffles each sunday and look forward to my name being called when the order is up! keep up the great work! :)

first things first, bruges ain't no mcdonald's, nor is it a waffle house, although it sells both fries (a.k.a. frites) and waffles (a.k.a. gaufres). while i don't usually comment on ambiance (because, in the end, who really cares? it's all about how the f

like it? love it!. the machine gun sandwich was unbelievable! incredible spicy lamb sausages on a fresh baguette with amazingly crispy frites and that awesome andalouse sauce.. definitely one of the best things i've eaten in a while. the sandwich has great flavors, texture and richness. i can't wait to go back and try various waffles or just the frites!

as to the facility, it's not a sit-down restaurant. it's basically an outdoor cafe with barely enough interior space to house the tiny kitchen and a few customers standing waiting to order at the counter. don't go expecting to be able to seat a family. this ain't the place for it. that being said, i'm wondering how their business fares in winter?

as for value, my sandwich was $8.34. with a san pellegrino aranciata (orange) soda, my tally came to just over $10. would i be offended paying $10 at mcdonald's for a single lunch? yes. at bruges? hell no. it's about context and what goes into what you get. for what i had, an incredible gourmet sandwich, the price right.

my friend showed this place to me while we were downtown for a concert. we only went for a quick snack and i regret not trying the waffles. i also really want to try the machine-gun sandwich and hopefully will soon. but for this visit i only had the fries. its a small, almost strange place to go, but it feels very authentic. the service was good and they had some water there waiting just for you to help yourself, which is nice if you've been walking around the city all day. the fries were great but a little on the salty side. they give you one complimentary sauce with your fries, and of all the choices, i still had to go with the classic utah fry sauce. portions are massive. i look forward to trying more of what this place has to offer!

big letdown. after reading all of the incredibly positive reviews of this restaurant on urban spoon, i was so excited to finally get to go to this restaurant this summer. sadly, i guess i must join the minority with this review. i can't understand what everyone is praising so highly.

1. the prices were very high.
2. we had to order more food, because we were still hungry after receiving our initial order.
3. we had to wait for our order for a long time.
4. the restaurant itself is tiny! there is no chance of seating a family of five inside. we had to sit outside at uncomfortable metal tables in the hot sun (i don't recommend this place in july at noon).
5. the lack of seating and the waiting for your order to be called makes this place feel like fast food, but at those prices we expect more ambience, more personal service, more of an experience, not: here's your food and there's the sidewalk.

a positive comment: it's true: their flavored mayonnaises for fries--aioli etc.--were fabulous. it was the waffles and the facility that were a letdown, not the fries and mayonnaise. also, although both the chocolate and fruit topped waffles were a disappointment, the creme fraiche was really good.

now a believer. when i first heard raving reviews about this "waffle joint" i was a little cynical. how does anyone make waffles outstanding? and is it even close to the authentic version of belgium waffles. upon going inside and hearing the owner's thick accent, i was already more convinced than i was 2 minutes before walking in. not only were the waffles just as good as the onces i had in belgium, they were offered a fashion that was friendly for both traditional and american eaters. the place is small and space is tight but tables outside on the patio as well as in the space that harbors caputos next door made this a non-issue in decent weather. the waffles and everything else are prepared in front of you so yes, they do actually use fresh fruit and prepare an delicious fresh made cream to top their waffles. the waffles are hot off the iron and offered in two different flavors, each topping to be chosen by you. slightly pricy but worth it considering their quality of the produce and ingredients they use. their frites/fries were absolutely amazing, only made better by an incredible variety of dipping sauces. i enjoyed my waffle despite it being slightly on the sweet side for me, and loved the fries. overall, a must try for anyone wanting an experience a little outside of the box!

the muscles from bruges pierre vandamme and frederic bosteels, are no-nonsense-liege-waffle-fisticuffing-machines serving a barebones menu that manages to overwhelm and excite the senses. like jcv, bruges waffles and frites simplicity is what makes it shine among an alley of much larger food service fodder. be warned, the frites on the wall are actually size, and carb comas prevalent if unable to resist the pull of the machingun sandwhich with a side of torpedos.

carb heaven. the liege waffles are amazing. simply amazing. each crispy bite and burst of the sugar crystals is like a bit of sweet heaven in your mouth. the creme is sweetened just enough... but thick and rich.

as for the frites. those too are awesome, and the sauces are a treat. my favorite is the andelous. spicy and rich with flavor.

on the weekends bruges also serves hot chocolate. thick, almost like a sipping chocolate, it is extremely rich - but a chocolate lovers dream for sure.

bruges is a regular on the rotation, and a place that i crave often! dieters... look elswhere.

spoil yourself with these savory waffles!. if you are a huge fan of waffles ( like i am) then you better head on to bruges waffles and frites. the owner, pierre vandammes from belgium brings to salt lake city, brussel waffles and the most famous gaufre waffles stuffed with sugar pearls. the leige waffles are thick, moist and freshly warm. they are like sweet heaven inside your mouth! you can add toppings such as bananas, strawberries, blueberries to chocolate syrups, creme and home-made vanilla ice cream.the best waffles i ever had! go try them now!

i felt like i was in belgium!. not that i've ever been to belgium, but from the moment i stood outside the door, i felt transported into one of the laminated pictures of belgium waffle and frites houses posted above the cozy snack bar. bruges is small, not to fit more than 7 or 8 inside. all the more to make you feel like you're stopping by a foreign friend's place for breakfast. the owner is super cordial and fun to chat with. he happily answered my questions about his food, belgium, and how he came to be in slc. the waffles were delicious! i had fresh strawberries, which he cut up while my waffle was baking. a generous dollup of creme fraiche made for a heavenly breakfast! it was so good i braved the freezing slc winter weather again the next morning for more. i missed the first few minutes of my conference in the salt palace, but a guy's got to have his priorities! definitely a must visit. great food. great friends. get your flemish fix in salt lake city.

the best waffles, period. you won't find a better waffle than at bruges. cute, tiny little shop, but the food they produce out of their little space is amazing. be prepared to spend $5-$7 for a waffle, but it's well worth it.

two days on and i am still salivating over the vanilla waffle topped with strawberries and dark belgian chocolate, not to mention the perfect frittes with aioli. the last time that i had waffles and frittes this good was in antwerp, and now i have another favourite eatery in downtown salt lake.
