fabulous!. i made a special trip downtown to to visit bruges waffles and frites when on vacation in salt lake city, and boy was i glad i did! the waffles are delicious! (i had mine plain.) warm, crunchy, a little sweet... a wonderful combination! later in the day, i went back for amachinegun sandwich - wow! delicious! spicy lamb sausage, perfectly seasoned and crispy frites, creamy andalouse sauce... all stuffed into a fresh baguette. i had to take a hit of antacid later, but it was worth it! a welcome change from the traditional american deli sandwich. if you love fries/fried potatoes... you have to give their frites a try! i think they are the tastiest fries i've ever had, and that's saying something! i will definitely be back the next time i head up to slc!

best ever. i went to belgium last year (also seeing brugge) and had craved there waffles and fries ever since! i stumbled across this place and it is exactly what i have craved! its worth the long lines and even eating in your car. themachinegun is also amazing! also try the chocolate bars they sell at the counter and different sauces to dip your frites in!

guilty pleasure. i had been curious about bruges waffles and frites for a few months now, so i decided to give it a try this afternoon.

my companion and i split a vanilla waffle with ice cream and strawberries. the waffle was okay by itself, but the ice cream and strawberries made a big difference.

we also split amachinegun sandwich and frites. this was by far the best part of the meal. we asked not to have the sauce on top of the frites, mostly because we wanted to take it easy on the mayo and the sandwich is messy enough as it is. the sausage was great, as was the sauce and the baguette. i'm not much for fries in general, but these were quite good.

the service was just okay. we got the waffle without any hitches, but there were a couple of screw-ups on the sandwich. we did ask for it to be split in half, but they forgot to do that, so we had to resort to cutting it with plastic knives. (not an easy task with a baguette.) also, the first go round, the sandwich was served with some of the mayo sauce on top (which we specifically asked for on the side instead).

overall, i'd consider coming back, but i probably won't become a regular. bruges was good enough for me to like on here, but not enough for me to come back on a frequent basis.

what's not to like?. frites, waffles, what could be better? granted, i had a pretty hefty carb coma to contend with when we left--but that was a calculated decision on my part, and one you have to make for yourself. we got to enjoy a beautiful view of the park with our dog beside us on the patio, and proceeded to devour some of the best fries and waffles of our lives. my husband and i shared amachinegun (his thing) and a waffle monster (my thing) and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. the fries and waffles were both perfectly crisp and golden, and the other ingredients on the plates didn't let them down. definitely stop by if you get a chance!

alas, i can’t fault the lady, since the waffle monster was delicious! the waffles tasted great- light, fluffy, and a touch sweet. the vanilla bean ice cream and fresh strawberries paired with it nicely too. however, this light start for a breakfast could not satisfy the beast in me. all hail! themachinegun sandwich!! check that bad boy out! this little beasty is stuffed with 2 merguez (lamb) sausages, belgian frites, and topped with andalouse sauce, all on a fresh baguette. there’s nothing i would change about this sandwich, it’s just spot on. with every bite i felt my hangover retreating. and within what felt like mere moments, all i had left was a full belly and a guilty grin on my face.

i just had my first snowboarding trip by airplane to salt lake city, and one of the top food places on our list to visit in salt lake city was  bruges waffles and frites . we made it here right after a dinner at moochies. i ordered the waffle monster. it was liège waffle stuffed with crunchy speculoos spread, vanilla bean ice cream and strawberries. this waffle was absolutely amazing, i loved everything about it. the waffle combination of speculoos and vanilla ice cream, and slightly sour strawberries was just awesome. best.waffle.ever. sorry dave, this was way better than new york’s wafels and dinges . the torpedo waffle was one of the many other items here. it was liège waffle stuffed with bars of belgian chocolate. also delicious. aside from waffles, this place has another infamous item on the menu called themachinegun. this carb overload sandwich was featured on man vs food. fresh baguette stuffed with 2 lamb sausages, belgian frites and andalouse sauce… i only tried

j'adore bruges!. i've been to bruges waffles and frites several times and always enjoyed the food! these aren't your basic waffles and fries, the waffles are belgian style with caramelized sugar inside so they're extra sweet-they don't need any syrup! i prefer ordering them with strawberries and crème fraîche! it adds a lightness to the sweet treat!

themachinegun sandwiches are fabulous, if you can get your mouth around them, and the fries are twice-fried like in europe so they're extra crispy! try the flemish stew for an interesting dish on a cold day, and all of their flavorful mayos!

best waffle i've ever had!. i wish i had stopped by here earlier. i confess that breakfast food items are my favorite type of food. i could eat french toast or waffles every day of the week... especially if the waffles taste like bruges waffles! i started at the top of the menu with their most popular waffle, the liege vanilla waffle. i loved everything about it. i love strawberries and there were several sliced strawberries on top. who doesn't like a little whipped cream right? and the waffle had a great doughy texture that normally i wouldn't be a fan of but the flavor was incredible. i'm tempted to sneak in after closing and snag the recipe because it really is the best waffle i've ever had.

we also got a side of fries with one of their sauces out of the refrigerator. i'm not sure how fries go with a sweet waffle like the liege vanilla waffle but they were still good fries. i think i'd rather them at lunch with amachinegun sandwich instead.

i think the owner (pierre) stopped in while we were there and joked with the employees. he seemed to be very happy even though it was late in the evening and undoubtedly a long work day.

you can't really consider this place a "hole in the wall" even though it's not much bigger than that. this part of town has some fancy little restaurants that i would eat at much more often if i lived closer. i've heard good things about their neighboring thai restaurant so if you go with a group that doesn't like waffles, tell them to snag some thai and you can eat out on the street together.

not worth all the hype! staff was rude, food was eh and prices were too high! they also only had bottled or room temp tap water for drinks! the fries were okay and the sauce was good but there wasn't enough on mymachinegun sandwich and they charged for extra! the bread was also really tough so it was difficult to eat. brought a friend here from out of town with high hopes after seeing it on diners, drive-in's and dives but it was a total let-down. will not be back.

good food, rude staff. my husband and i finally decided to brave the long line and try this much hyped about little restaurant and i can honestly say we will never go back again. the food is great, but it's definitely overpriced, the line is insane, and the staff are probably the rudest people i have ever come across. they're like the soup nazi from seinfeld! the only menu i saw was inside the building, so even though you wait in line for quite a while, you can't really decide what you want until you get up to the counter - which ultimately makes a long line even longer. by the time we got to the counter, i felt like we had to make a decision asap so we wouldn't hold up the line any further. we ordered amachinegun sandwich, a waffle with strawberries and an order of fries. we had intended to order a few extra sauces since it was our first time but, having never been there and feeling pressured to be fast, we asked for a recommendation. the guy at the register literally sighed and pointed at the wall to a small poster with the sauce descriptions, which we had completely missed because it was nowhere near the actual menu. not wanting to hold up the line, we hurried and picked two flavors and got the hell out of the way. my waffle and my husband'smachinegun sandwich came out first, followed by the waffles andmachinegun sandwiches of all the other patrons who came after us in line. we had completely finished both items and still had not received my fries. and it didn't look like any other patrons had, either. it appeared that they were making fries to fulfill themachinegun sandwich orders, regardless of the order in which they were placed, and weren't even bothering with the plain fry orders. after giving them a while longer, i finally got up and asked, as nicely as i possibly could (because, really, you shouldn't offend people who are handling something you're about to eat), if my fries were still cooking. the lady at the window snapped that they were really busy (which they were, granted, which was why we tried to be patient) then said "ug, you know what?" and stomped into the back, leaving me, confused at the window. after a few seconds, she came back and slammed a cone of fries on the counter - she had gone back to the fryer, collected the little, overcooked nubbins of fries, put them in a cone and gave them to me! i couldn't believe it! other reviewers have said all this, so i know we're not the only people to have this experience, and i'm really not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them another try! that staff treated us like we were uncool, ignorant outsiders who weren't worth their time and effort and you know what? i can think of much better places to spend my money. sorry we weren't hipster enough for you, bruges.

bruges blues. friends recommended this place, and we had high hopes. the place has a nice old vibe to it, so we were excited to try it. we told the worker that it was our first time in and ask him for help making sense the menu on the wall. he was absolutely no help. he just impatiently said that everything was good...he didn't show us the more detailed menus that were on the side. on top of being rude and vague, he rushed us, and i ended up ordering themachinegun because it was the only thing i could make sense of. we felt as if we were nusances, and we needed to get out of the line. on top of that, our order was lost, so we waited for about 25 minutes as our food got cold in the back, and others were recieving their orders much quicker.

once we finally got ourmachineguns, they were nothing to rave about. it is a mess to eat, and the only thing that makes this sandwich stand apart from others is the sauce. the lamb isn't great; it comes in a sausage form, and is tough. the bread isn't soft, and it just makes the lamb even harder to chew. it's all too dry, and there isn't much good flavor to it. i could make those french fries at home, they really aren't special. i'm sure the waffles are great, but because of the terrible service we recieved i'm not sure we'll be back to try them.

moral: don't let the hipster workers push you around, and take the time to order what you want...(not themachinegun).

that aint nomachinegun...that's an rpg!. ever eaten at a place and had one thing so good that would go back there for it endlessly, even though you could get it anywhere else?

ever had that thing be something so simple that you never thought you ever say to anyone that they should get that? like, say...a fried potato?

and then ever had that delicious ingredient put into a top quality baguette with the most heavenly sauce and sausages?

no? then have i got the place for you! prepare yourself for ultimate flavor. if anyone had told me that i'd be raving about a fried potato two years ago i would have thought they were crazy. but wow...those frites are just amazing. it's worth going there just for that. but why stop there? yes...i would like that with spicy sausage and doused in sauce on top of a baguette. themachinegun sandwich is so good that i woke up three days later with a splitting headache and couldn't remember who i was or how i got there.

oh yeh, and the waffles are like nothing you ever had before. unless maybe you were in holland and found some waffles like these. spectacular, particularly when stuffed with chocolate and topped with creme fraiche.

themachinegun. i had themachinegun today and it is really good grub! the sausage was really spicy but when you throw in the frites and the sauce they put on the top it's all good! the sandwich did cost $10 which is kind of high but the quality is worth it. i would defiantly come here again.
