when we feel like heading out for a drive to a nice waterside pub, this is where we usually end up, unfortunately the food has never been great here! but we do like the setting.

service is pretty good and i do like their hot veg and salad bar, the vegies are simple but always good! don’t see too many salad bars around anymore!

we ordered the seafood platter to share, it’s reasonable value, but it’s not great. the fish was mushy and oily, the calamari was tender but you could still taste the raw flour, the prawn skewers were overcooked, killer oysters were okay and i believe the tartare was straight out of a jar. oh my.

we still keep returning because we just like it and maybe, one day, we will get a good meal here!

schnitzel was ok. the salad bar was a nice accompaniment. friend swears by it. service was friendly. i am not sure i would come back on my own accord.

i think the birkenhead tavern is my favourite place for a pub meal. the of the port was great. i had fish and chips with a beer. it was delicious the fish was cooked perfectly and the plate wasn’t overloaded with too many chips. the tartare sauce was just right adding to the grilled fish. next time i think i’ll try the burger!

this is our local - we can always rely on great food and service at a reasonable price. we often come her for the oysters and schnitzels. the views are great and we love coming here for a beverage in the warmer months!

recommended by a local to try this out and glad i did. generous serves with choices of the salad bar or roasted vegetables. i had the scotch fillet with mash and struggled to finish it.
lovely helpful staff, quick service and busy on a tuesday night.

lady cashier was rude and terrible service. food was average, nothing fantastic and the steak was overcooked. waiters were constantly eye-ing on us when we went for the salad bar.

my dad often frequents the tavern and has always enjoyed the food/service. he took me recently and we ordered the seafood platter which wasn't amazingg but an enjoyable meal still. the view and atmosphere outside were amazing and the service was friendly.

they were so accomdating to my dietery needs with the cook making a seperate garlic sauce so will be back for sure !! thanks see you again soon !

not exactly vegetarian friendly (minimal options) let alone vegan friendly (no options-unless you get salad adapted for still $17!!!) almost everything on menu is deep fried.. see the menu online for yourself!
so don't come here if your vegan or vegetarian or overly health conscious. but go if you want a drink over looking the port river, if you can get a table outside.

great service, lovely location. had a seafood platter and especially enjoyed the oysters, prawn skewers and squid. not as impressed with the battered fish and chips, so it's very much down the middle. enjoyed the salad bar as well - i always love those!

came here for lunch whilst working out in birkenhead, adelaide thanks to the terminal manger.

it's a very nice pub located along the water. this place was very busy during lunch and that was a good sign. then menu was pretty extensive but we all ordered seafood, i had the seafood platter.
you have to order and pay at the bar, and they give you a number for the table to bring the food out to.

they also have a free open bain-marie with salad
and veggies which is included with the price of your main meal and is self serve which is a very nice addition.

the seafood platter was great and included coffin bay oysters, prawns, calamari and fish fillet and chips. the seafood tasted fresh and was hooked very well. it was also a very good serving size for the price

very ordinary steak for a high price. we ordered a medium rare fillet steak. what we got was a medium steak, when we complained and showed them the steak, they argued that it was medium rare. extremely bad service. we paid $40 for a very average steak.

had the wagyu rump steak. it was excellent. cooked to perfection. salad bar is of a high quality and staff were attentive and pleasant. thank you!

such a great place to eat, awesome out door deck with beautiful outlook over the port river. great menu with heaps of variety, really good salad bar and friendly staff. highly recommend.

went here for lunch today, beautiful location with a great view of the port river. customer service was lovely, didn't have to wait long for meals, which was amazing because it was really busy. we had the beef cheek and burger both very nice and fresh. will return.
