joburg's first official burger joint! these guys are from philly and it shows through their juicy, tasty, authentic, good 'ole american hamburgers! i am soooo relieved that a friend told me about bgr. . . now when i have my shake shack or in-n-out cravings, i can head to bgr for my fixin'! good job guys!

bgr! the closest thing to american style burgers you will find in jhb. staff are very friendly and service is great. the food tasted unlike any other type of burger chain around with the freshest ingredients. prices are a little steep but i definitely recommend trying it out for those who want a different kind of burger and fries experience.

yes. yes, yes and yes again. i did an assignment on bgr and i'm super impressed by the effort put in on selecting perfect cuts of beef, importing their fries from belgium and making their buns in house! best burger i've had in joburg. better than roccomamas

okay so i decided to give bgr a try, i had to, after all this talk about them having the best burger in jhb i really just had to understand the hype . 

the first thing i noticed is that the waffle fries are gone which is sad, i would have loved to compare them to the crisscut fries at carls jnr but whatever. that's my first complaint alot of coming soon ot gone items on the menu. 

another complaint is the milkshake, now i understand its being made by fresh yoghurt and its more than amazing but r50 for a small milkshake just doesn't make sense to me at all. 

anyway on to the food. i decided to go for it all, the double cheese with everything. and fries . 

r300 later for 2 people i'm worried because that's the equivalent to 2 x share boxes at mcdonalds. i mean that's a lot of burgers and fries.

so is it worth it? 

well.....yes and no, 

if you are putting this into the gourmet burger league then yes the price isn't bad at all for all the extras you can put on,  and what you actually get at the end, which is a delicious fresh burger. however it wasn't mind blowing, the hot sauce and mayo and whatever all seem a bit bland, the burger itself might be the best prepared burger ever but it again seemed a bit boring. maybe a little herbs and spices? or some sauces with a bite? 

now the problem with this is that even without a tangy , spicy sauce, or a spiced up patty this burger sits in my top 5 without a chance of ever dropping because it is thee most soft and fresh burger i've ever had. the bun was fresher than andre 3000 after a shower. and the ingredients used seemed to have been harvested just for my burger. when you bite into this burger its like biting into a cloud of happiness. everything perfect. 

the fries, oh my gawsh!!! its some of the best fries i've ever had. crispy outside, soft inside. salted to perfection and just awesome in all ways. 

now yes its one of the best burgers in jhb but if you are like me that enjoys a habanero teriyaki sauce, or avo and feta with spicy salsa or something crazy that's going to make my tastebuds explode then  you might not find what you looking for at this place. 

but if you are looking for the reincarnation of the original burger then this is it, it is simple it is everything a cheeseburger is supposed to be. its is tasty and fresh. 

and it feels as if i'm a kid watching spongebob all those people going crazy for the krabby patty and always wanting to try the best burger. well bgr is as close to that as i have gotten. 

all i want now is more options and then there will be no questions about its.

i went to bgr with a group of friends after first thursdays. this was my 2nd time coming since it moved from its previous store & i have to say that i was thoroughly disappointed. the burger was very bland & all the extra toppings i picked couldn't cover the taste up. i used to go very often before the store moved, but the move seems to be at its misfortune. however, they do have one of the best lemonades i've ever tasted & would definitely go back for one of those.

one of the best burgers i have had with the most delicious fries! made my friday night!! one was just enough however definitely get the double cheese if you hungry

this has to be one of the best burgers in joburg! the burgers are always juicy and the toppings always fresh. their frozen custard is also to die for!

having missed reviewing this amazing little piece of the usa in joburg when it opened quite a while back. it's become one of my quick lunch burger stops. all of josh's hard work and many hours of thought shows.
the simplicity of the location and decor, t's one up to enjoy the decadence that is a well made burger, no fancy sauces to mask the flavour of beef and bun.

so the location has changed...
yet josh et al have now grown up with an amazing new space in the trendy surounds off jeleco ( behind same building) the very clean classic american look fits brilliantly in the space. and the burger quality hasn't declined.
one big benefit the guys are researching adding bacon....
the years of effort they put into the patties the bacon is going to be epic.

next time you are driving south on jan smuts and are craving a burger pull into the caltex garage which has a building site above it. bgr is in the back and enjoy a burger you won't forget.

bgr is a great little spot. although the menu is simple, they do good quality, tasty burgers - and all the toppings are free. the location may not be ideal but it's definitely worth a visit.

bit of a divy location for this vowel challenged eatery, but their burgers more than make up for it. limited menu compensates for high quality ingredients and friendly service.

made my day finding this hidden gem! tucked away in the corner of the caltex, it's a true burger joint with a simple menu (for now). i would advise going for the double burger, it is bang for your buck. the food is super fresh and succulent with me ordering "the works" on each burger. the staff really put a smile on my dial with their enthusiasm. it's a perfect stop for eating on the go or some great pad kos too!@eatbgrs

if you want a fantastic burger for take-out, this is the place -- spot on american style burgers (the owners are yankees) with great toppings.  the vanilla shake is superb.  the location is still in development so that's a negative at present but will probably be worked out.  if you don't mind the calories i would recommend the double cheeseburger with the works.

best hamburger in jozi hands down, if your idea of a great hamburger is below quality ingredients piled on a stale roll with undercooked fries, them bgr is not for you.

a great alternative to other franchised fast food burger options, as quality ingredients are used. you'll definitely taste the difference.
a bit of a arbitrary location at the caltex garage forecourt - but the interior is quite inviting.
probably the best parktown north take-away option for that evening you need a break from cooking

this cool, no-frills burger joint is located within a caltex petrol garage complex on jan smuts ave. it has an industrial inspired interior featuring cement screed floors, interesting pipe light fittings and striking red metal/ wooden chairs.

the menu is straightforward - choose your beef burger as a double / single (with cheese or not) and add your toppings for free. they also serve a "cardio" version, which replaces the bun with lettuce.
you can add on a rather large serving of french fries for only r19.
also try their tasty frozen custard, in a shake or as a float!

the service is very friendly, fast and efficient. you can see that the place is well run, as hygiene standards are top notch and the space is spotless.

will definitely be back for a late night burger on cheat day!
