i've heard great things about bgr the last few months and being a burger and milkshake fanatic, it was inevitable that i'd head their way.
a simple refined menu is great and bgr is burger place and its great to see them not delve from their chosen route with unnecessary extras, on a humble menu. sadly, on our visit masking tape covered about 30% of their offerings, which is a lot to not have on hand with a menu so small.
nevertheless, i was there for a burger with chips and a milkshake, and that they had. well only vanilla milkshake as they were out of chocolate as well...
i decided to get the full monty and ordered a double cheeseburger with the works - basically all the dressing a burger needs including their famous bgr sauce - and a vanilla milkshake for the lack of a selection.
the presentation was on spot, reminiscent to me at least, of great burger drive-ins, the picture talks for itself! for the rest, that's why i'm here.
as is customary, i dove into the chips first to appease my drooling mouth as i orientated my meal for this feast. the chips were incrediblyfreshand tasty, by far some of the best chips i've had at burger joints and a token side that all should consider when visiting bgr. the burger on the other hand was nothing exceptional at all. veering away from the sum of the parts, my first bite was exclusively of an exposed portion of the burger patty, which to my disappointment tasted of nothing... this was indeed a sad discovery as a burger is defined by the sum of its entire make up, but the heart of it lies in the meat.
not to be discouraged just yet i took a large crunching bite of the entire burger and it tasted rather similar to what i've come to expect from better fast food burger outlets like burger king - sadly completely lacking any bgr sauce (probably out of that too) it tasted no better...
thus far i wasn't too impressed, the only remaining candidate of the meal possibly able to redeem what bgr had to offer was the milkshake, vanilla, specifically. made from frozen custard i was pleasantly surprised at how great it tasted. lacking all which i hate like clumps and overpowering, often poorly mixed flavouring syrup and rather flaunting a smooth, sensational taste i was very happy to end my meal with such a great shake!
all in all, an alright experience. even with great chips and a good shake, a burger joint is judged on its burgers and from my single experience i can safely say that they're average at best.
