bgr! the closest thing to american style burgers you will find in jhb. staff are very friendly and service is great. thefoodtasted unlike any other type of burger chain around with the freshest ingredients. prices are a little steep but i definitely recommend trying it out for those who want a different kind of burger and fries experience.

new venue on the art mile, same greatfoodwith a few new extras!

made my day finding this hidden gem! tucked away in the corner of the caltex, it's a true burger joint with a simple menu (for now). i would advise going for the double burger, it is bang for your buck. thefoodis super fresh and succulent with me ordering "the works" on each burger. the staff really put a smile on my dial with their enthusiasm. it's a perfect stop for eating on the go or some great pad kos too!@eatbgrs

a great alternative to other franchised fastfoodburger options, as quality ingredients are used. you'll definitely taste the difference.
a bit of a arbitrary location at the caltex garage forecourt - but the interior is quite inviting.
probably the best parktown north take-away option for that evening you need a break from cooking

tried this place for the first time and it was grand. the service is top notch and thefoodwas just as good. i had a hamburger and cheeseburger with different toppings on each, washing it all down with some freshly squeezed lemonade. the burgers were fantastic, good portions and fresh toppings. i loved the lemonade. i'll defo be visiting again

best burger in jhb. i don't like massive, over the top burgers with too many toppings so this is perfect. the chips are really good too.

re the reviews that say it is pricey- it should not be compared to typical fastfoodburger joints. you are paying for quality of ingredients.

pretty decent burger. bgr sauce could be more original but otherwise it was good.
facilities are nice, y’all just need your own loo. having to go outside, up the stairs & down the passage is a nuisance.
goodfoodthough!

i opted for the double cheeseburger with fries option. the vibe of the restaurant is great, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh and full of flavour. unfortunately there were no mushrooms when i went there, but that did not deter the meal. the staff is friendly, the place is immaculate and thefoodis wonderful. most definitely one of the best burgers i’ve ever had.

the lost city of bgr

although i’m no gastronomic connoisseur or a culinary zealot, i would like to consider myself some kind of vexed enthusiast with a literal taste for the simple, well-constructed, but brilliantly delicious fare across all boards. especially so with the street-sold or “fast food” variety. those much needed edible doses of unhealthy purchased goodness we desperately need to get us through this complex and convoluted foxhole we call daily life. in recent times, i specifically obsess over the classic favourite we know as the “burger”. provided it has been prepared or produced with some care and quality. i am happy to report that i have found the motherload within this arena on the northern side of egoli. it is colloquially known as bgr.

in the words of the prophet, anthony bourdain: “there are many forces at play with a properly made burger.” i’ve had the privilege of sampling this form offoodin many different shapes and sizes, in many different places all over. i have had the holy grail of burgers at in-n-out in los angeles, and reasonably good burgers in jerusalem, lusaka, cape town, pretoria, and atlanta airport. though, the closest i have come to the el dorado or shangri-la, is hidden somewhere between jan smuts avenue and oxford road in rosebank. i would love to tell you exactly where it is, but i would probably have to kill you.

nestled next to a quiet one-way with very little parking available, bgr is a single store operation that packs the punch that ten franchises couldn’t muster. the clean, industrial, and immensely minimal aesthetic immediately divulges the true purpose of your visit. for, cartoonish or sleek furniture, colourful mascots and iconography, would be the most futile and cheapening endeavour in this house that ground beef built. by the way, “never frozen, [100% rump steak] patties are hand-formed daily with only a dash of salt added while its cooking.”

the menu is simple. burgers, fries, lemonade. maybe a cup of frozen custard afterwards. the absolute best part of all this is, the burger is a ballistic missile of pure delectable greatness. it sounds ridiculous, but it’s truly ingenious. the burgers are available as a single and double hamburger or cheeseburger. then, there’s the bacon burger, and a vegetarian option. toppings are straightforward, the usual stuff to build your own tasty creation with. but, all garnish are intensely fresh. simply ordering your burger with “the works” would move enough mountains in a single visit. the patty is flawlessly cooked with an immensely high quality ground meat. the cheese is melted over the patty while on the griddle. the finely constructed burger is finally handed over, and can be accompanied by a portion of high-grade fries. i’m utterly starving now.

this subjective rant has made it clear that i will be visiting this fine establishment for many moons to come. it consistently provides the contentment seeked, and it effortlessly checks all the boxes. like i said: simple, well-constructed, but brilliantly delicious fare. go and have yours, before the mirage dissipates.

best burger in johannesburg!!!! consistently greatfoodthat’s always cooked to perfection. portion sizes are spot on. also, the bacon is insanely good. i’d recommend finishing your meal off with some frozen custard.

pity that most of their menu is “coming soon”

bgr is a very simple american-styled burger joint in rosebank.

nestled between a snazzy sneaker shop and an artsy shop, the minimalistic interior makes it a very unassuming restaurant especially from the outside.

the service is good, efficient, and relatively quick. although being a fastfoodplace, the order process is very simple: you order at the counter (like you normally would at a fastfoodplace), collect your food, and either grab a table there or take it home to eat.

we ordered a cheeseburger and a double cheeseburger, and how it works is: you choose your burger type and then the toppings are free (except for bacon, bacon is an added cost) and you can choose which toppings you would like to add. the buns they use seem to be a fresh brioche-like buns that are wonderfully soft and buttery with a slight sweetness to them. the burger patties are smash burger patties but with a minimally seasoned meatiness to them. the cheese is, well, the cheese is cheese that's melted on your burger patty. we also ordered fries and a lemonade. the fries only come in one size and are a combination of mcdonald's fries and kfc fries on a good day. the lemonade was surprisingly refreshing with a tang to it which was rather enjoyable.

the minimally marked/unmarked packaging further adds to the simplicity of bgr.

overall, bgr is a simple burger joint that's worth a visit if you're wanting fresh, simple burgers, and to be in and out of there relatively quickly.

after reading the hype around bgr and it's "best burger in jozi" we had to make a mission to try it out. it most definitely did not disappoint. the restaurant it's self is unassuming, like any take away place it's about thefoodand the speed of delivery.

the burgers are what really set it apart though. the patties are juicy and soft (non of that rubbery crap) and the buns are light and fresh. you have the option of adding as many free toppings as you would like on top of your burger/cheese burger/double cheese burger). the chips are thin and salty. a burger with drinks and chips will set you back around r100, so it's not the cheapest "fast food" option out there but it is so worth it. definitely my new favorite burger and if you haven't tried it yet be sure to head there as soon as possible.
