we had the zucchini beignets, and they were fantastic. not sweet like a new orleans beignet. the seafood crepe and redfish with hollandaise were both really, really good.servicewas great. we can't wait to go back!

why out of all the fabulous restaurants in jackson/madison would i eat at the same restaurant twice in five days?.... because we have anjou! french proprietor, anne and her father, the executive chef both knew just what the metro needed and now we can't get enough of this place!

located in the former aj's, the decor hasn't changed: dark walnut floors, wide dining chairs, although the french may laugh, a huge bar area with plenty of signature cocktails to boot. the anjou, is a must-try: grey goose, chambord, pineapple - mind you the cocktail comes out purple with shaved ice and a bit of froth. my parents loved the "new fashion", similar to an old fashion with the single large ice cube. the wine list is reasonably extensive and priced well.

for appetizers, i recommend the vegetable soup with pesto, in a chicken broth base with green beans, kidney beans, potatoes -delicious, yet light. my father loved the french onion soup- just as the native french would prepare- excellent. the seared tuna entree was just perfect- and a hearty fillet at that, served over cous cous with calmatta olives and tomatoes. our favorite entree was the scallop, shrimp & crab crepe which was light, i prefer the bechemel on the side.

theservicewas outstanding. all of the bartenders, dane, tameka, our waitress and anne made our experience all the better. very friendly and attentive, but not overly, which is good!

get a res!

night made magical by anjou. we took our daughters to anjou because they were turning 13 and we wanted an upscale dining experience for them. we were not disappointed.servicewas excellent, food was amazing and they made dessert with birthday candles a special treat. as we were leaving the restaurant they treated the girls to a surprise limo ride around the block. this was truly a magical experience and i believe anjou would be the place to go for proms, weddings or any of life's important celebrations.

classy with good service. hubby and i had lunch there today and we were quite pleased with the food and the service. the price for a wonderful huge sandwich plus a big portion of french onion soup at about $10 was a great value. in fact, i think next time we will share that because more than half the sandwich was left when he had eaten as much as he wanted. i had a lovely salad with one or their several house-made dressings along with a spinach & goat cheese quiche which was amazingly light and fluffy which was on a delicious, flaky crust that i'm sure was home-made. at $10.50, again a great value. we also had two teas which were refilled regularly and shared a delicious strawberry crepe. this was all for about $35 plus tax. first classserviceall the way from anthony. the manager also dropped by from welcome us and we enjoyed a little chat. we will definitely go back.

may be the first and last visit. had dinner last night at anjou for the first time, and left really disappointed. we arrived on time for our reservation, and the placed wasn't packed by any means. i can't say it any other way , but theservicewas horrible. we waited way too long for our salads, and then the empty plates sat on the table for way too long. then we just sat for at least an hour before a manager came by and said another server picked up our order and served it to another party. seems like our waiter would have been looking for our food after a while. even after that, it took probably another forty five minutes to get our food. waiter didn't seem to give a rip about the whole situation. i had the veal special, which was a little salty to my taste, but ok. others in our party liked the food, but by the time it came, we would have eaten just about anything. they did comp us a round of drinks and dessert, which they should have. will have to hear a lot of raves before we go back. we eat out a lot and this was hands down the worstservicewe've had anywhere.

my wife and i have eaten here twice. the first time i had the duck and my wife had the seafood crepe, both excellent.servicewas great as well. the second time i had the pork chop and my wife had the veal; once again both excellent. however it was a friday night and the kitchen was backed up so our meal took a long time to come out. the manager came out apologized, comped our entire meal, including dessert, and gave us a gift card to ensure we came back; exactly the kind of response one expects from a top notch restaurant. wonderful place in spite of the delayed meal. also the appetizer beignets are amazing as well as the house dressings.

breath of fresh air!. have been 3 times now, all for dinner, and love this place! having spent time in france, it is not a parisian-style restaurant, but more like the true local restaurants you will find all over france.

from day one, theservicehas been excellent. they are always prompt but never rush you. in true french fashion, you can feel free to enjoy meal, drinks, and company. you will see people dressed in formal wear at one table and others in dressy casual and jeans at the next table...and both look perfectly at home. it's a very comfortable environment!

- the escargot is superb and better than any i have ever had in france. the mussels are also delicious.
- the french onion soup is very good.
- my favorite entrees so far are the crepe aux fruits de mer (seafood crepes) and the magret de canard (seared duck). the steak frites is also excellent.

the only thing missing from the menu that i would dearly love to see added is foie gras!

they have an excellent wine list. the desserts leave something to be desired, but the food is so delicious, i rarely have room for dessert anyway.

we are fortunate to have some very good restaurants in the jackson area, and anjou can now be added to that list. what really sets it apart is that it offers a completely different cuisine than everything in or even near jackson.

bon appetit!!!

love anjou. ok, the menu is as much ms as france, but the execution is certainly gallic, the setting is beautiful, the decor is very nice, and theserviceon our first visit was polished and professional. after spending 20+ years in new orleans and 20+ years in dallas, we have generally been disappointed by jackson's restaurants, including many of the local "high-end" favorites coasting on their reputations from years gone by: third-rate food, second-rate service, and first-rate prices, served up to people who clearly can't tell the difference and would probably be too polite to say so anyhow, imho. my wife satisfied her snail jones, while i had a salad and mostly held off waiting for my scallop entree. everything was just right. the apple tart we split for dessert was platonic perfection. pricey, but worth it in my opinion. we will be back to anjou soon!
