loved it!. so glad we now have a frenchrestaurantin jackson! opened in old aj's ridgeland location byrestaurantgroup that owns amerigo, sombra, char, etc. lunch menu is french bistro style. haven't made it to dinner there yet but i'm looking forward to it. the french onion soup is yummy and so is the hot baguette with butter that is brought to the table!! menu has a nice selection of soups, salads and sandwiches with a few seafood and pasta dishes too.

why out of all the fabulous restaurants in jackson/madison would i eat at the samerestauranttwice in five days?.... because we have anjou! french proprietor, anne and her father, the executive chef both knew just what the metro needed and now we can't get enough of this place!

located in the former aj's, the decor hasn't changed: dark walnut floors, wide dining chairs, although the french may laugh, a huge bar area with plenty of signature cocktails to boot. the anjou, is a must-try: grey goose, chambord, pineapple - mind you the cocktail comes out purple with shaved ice and a bit of froth. my parents loved the "new fashion", similar to an old fashion with the single large ice cube. the wine list is reasonably extensive and priced well.

for appetizers, i recommend the vegetable soup with pesto, in a chicken broth base with green beans, kidney beans, potatoes -delicious, yet light. my father loved the french onion soup- just as the native french would prepare- excellent. the seared tuna entree was just perfect- and a hearty fillet at that, served over cous cous with calmatta olives and tomatoes. our favorite entree was the scallop, shrimp & crab crepe which was light, i prefer the bechemel on the side.

the service was outstanding. all of the bartenders, dane, tameka, our waitress and anne made our experience all the better. very friendly and attentive, but not overly, which is good!

get a res!

night made magical by anjou. we took our daughters to anjou because they were turning 13 and we wanted an upscale dining experience for them. we were not disappointed. service was excellent, food was amazing and they made dessert with birthday candles a special treat. as we were leaving therestaurantthey treated the girls to a surprise limo ride around the block. this was truly a magical experience and i believe anjou would be the place to go for proms, weddings or any of life's important celebrations.

fair at best. i can't believe thisrestauranthas so many positive reviews. we have tried anjou for dinner and for lunch and both experiences were subpar. today we went for lunch and walking in the door, the host didn't bother to look up from the host stand, so we ate in the bar area. i decided to start with the soup of the day, potato, leek and shrimp. it wasn't heated thru completely, so parts were cold and still somewhat congealed. not good. i then moved on to the anjou chopped salad. i didn't order chicken with the salad because of the cold, rubbery chicken experience i had during our dinner visit. the greens were nice, along with the blue cheese and hearts of palm. however, the lardons were ice cold. i would expect a "french"restaurantto serve lardons warm at the very least. it feels like the food is thrown on the plate without any thought or attempt to be authentic. we will not be back. on a positive note, the bartender was very nice.

this week, eat jackson’s quest to honor the tastiest ice cream dishes around town led us to anjou, the new frenchrestaurantlocated at the township in ridgeland. you may remember our spotlight on anjou earlier this summer, where we mentioned that the french language dominates therestaurantmenu. my knowledge of french doesn’t go much farther than “oui” or “baguette,” but underneath the menu’s bold-faced words of les desserts (easy enough!) was something any southerner would instantly recognize: ice cream!
