huge disappointment. my dad wanted to take me out for a specialmealto celebrate receiving my master's degree. we thought amerigo's would be perfect. impeccable service. when my dad tipped his wine glass over, it broke on his water glass. a mess that was cleaned up in minutes with little drama by a professional staff as we slipped into a nearby table. my hats off to the staff for attending to us so quickly!
but don't be fooled, the food was average at best. my crab cakes were bready and gummy, probably frozen then fried, but definitely underdone and with little crab meat. my portabella salad looked thrown together. terrible presentation with blobs of goat cheese and mushrooms hidden under a mound of greens that were warm and limp, as if they'd been sitting out in the kitchen too long.
my dad's fish looked nice as it was presented on a cedar plank, but the fish was dry with no cedar smoke imparted in it. our dessert, tiramisu, was a splurge for us, and again a disappointment. these weren't lady fingers, this was white cake that had not been soaked with coffee, just plain white cake. doubtful marscapone was used, but more a straight-up cream cheese frosting. i worked as a pastry chef at bravo restaurant in jackson and have made tiramisu a hundred times -- i know how it's made and this was not tiramisu!
i remember amerigo's when it first opened and i remember the food being much much better. i'm afraid amerigo's hasn't kept up its standards.
we put down $80 bucks for a dinner that was merely average. however we tipped out excellent waiter well, as he deserved it.
