amazing! but you have to know what to expect because it's very simplifed. you need to pay with cash (there's an atm across the street if you forget). if you have a place to be after breakfast make sure you leave time to wait in line. al's only has 13 bar stools (a big part of the experience!) so the line can get long - especially on the weekend. also not a good place to bring a large group for that reason as well.

all in all, veryworththe wait, if you have time to spare - and make sure you know what to expect!

2nd best breakfast in metro. great food at an awsome price! i would give it 4 out of 5 stars for the food alone, as a whole 3.5 out of 5, just because place is small and wait is long sometimes. but food isworthit! cash only though remember that. if you like this place you have to try the north pole in newport mn...food is better, and place is 50 style diner but much bigger then al s.

it was fine, but... there was nothing special about the food, not enough shrimp in the new orleans omlette, the sauce had broken down a bit, and the french toast was like every other french toast on earth. nothing tasted "awful" but nothing really tasted "great" either. notworthsearching for or waiting for.

good but notworththe wait.. i got the spring special (one egg with asparagus and hollandaise) and a blueberry pancake. the pancake was great but the eggs were nothing special, and the sauce weird and i normally love holl. sauce, this is why i got it. my boyfriend was very let down and won't be going back. he left hungry. i would go again for a pancake if it wasn't busy, but i wouldn't wait that hour and a half again, and we went on a mon. morning.

thanks food network!. i'm in mn from ohio visiting a friend of mine and remembered an episode of "diners, drive-ins, and dives" on food network featuring "al's breakfast". the food shown "looked" fantastic so, i had to have a try.

after visiting today (06/24/2010) and having the dinkytown omelet, it proved to be even better! the omelet was cooked to perfection with just enough ham, cheese, and onions to make my mouth water even after eating it. the hashbrowns were just right -- crunchy on the top and bottom and lightly soft in the middle. the bacon i ordered on the side was crispy and had just the right amount of salt to make me want more! it wasworththe wait to be seated!

thank you, al's breakfast, for a tasty breakfast that i will remember for quite a long time!

don't do it. it's notworththe wait!!!!! it's just regular fried breakfast (of which i am a fan) but yet they can't even properly grill hash browns. it's not that the food was actually bad (except the hashbrowns are), but it's just notworththe effort.

yes! eat here!. nobody makes blueberry pancakes as good as al's. perfect bacon. the jose is inspired, the coffee strong, even the toast is spot on.

my dad's been eating here for 30 some years. a good friend's dad, for a few more years than that. i started in college. we may all die from it, it's that good. this is the best breakfast joint in town. probably the best in the midwest, maybe in the world.

be warned, you may have to wait and you may end up smelling like al's. it's allworthit. and don't let the staff give you any lip, they're liable to.

best breakfast in town. this is by far the best breakfast i've ever had. the restaurant only seats 14, but it's alwaysworthwaiting for a spot. the atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly (and a little goofy sometimes), and the food is fantastic. try the winter special, or the whole wheat pancakes with walnuts and blueberries!

i could die happy. i love al's so much. the food, (wally blues and bacon) the atmosphere (built in an alley), and the people are something to be experienced. it was a twice a week experience for years, but then i graduated ,got a 9-5 (actually 7-3) job and i can now only go on the weekends unless i call in sick. if you can only make it on the weekend, it is definitelyworththe wait, even if it is 0 degrees and you have to stand in line outside for a little bit. don't be scared by having to stand directly behind those eating (14 stools at a counter) and don't try to sit before one of the servers tells you. there is a system. this is a minnesota institution. remember, al's is only open until 1pm and cash or check only.
