aj's dockside restaurant

always good. we have been eating here every time on tybee. i can say that it's always great and service is there also. never once a bad experience. eat outside on the dock, use a hush puppy to feed the grackles it a great experience. 9.5 of 10 every time we are here.

very disappointing!. the wait was long, but understandable for a saturday night. i was hoping aj's would have a larger seafood selection.. almost everything is fried, which is good for some people, but i wanted fresh steamed seafood! i was going to get crab legs, but 1 lb. of snow crab with no sides was $17.00! i think that is extremely overpriced! my husband ordered the crab burger. the crab burger was small and the tomato was sliced extremely thick. his fries were limp and lifeless. no crunch whatsoever. they may have been sitting under the heat lamp too long. i ordered the fried oyster po boy and did not find it very exciting. not at all like the wonderful po boys i see on food shows or online! just a plain bun with 5 fried oysters on top, sauce on the side and yet another extremely thick cut tomato. the hush puppies tasted ok, but were small. my margherita was very salty. on another note, the staff was friendly and attentive, and it was nice having a live singer. honestly, i would not come back.. the prices and wait are not worth it!

beautiful sunsets!. great fried seafood too!. service was great but not too rushed. we wanted to stay and see the sunset and we didn't feel rushed to leave.

real island "local color and atmosphere". great sunset views! lots of fried entrees. price somewhat high for the overall quality. atmosphere and staff compensated for limited and pricey menu items.

just don't get it . . .. our first attempt to eat here there was an hour and half wait. the next day we arrived earlier and we just don't understand the fuss over this place. yes it is on the water and the sunset is nice but the food is just okay at best and they only have bottle beer. basically i could had cook dinner and cracked open a cold one and walked outside of our condo and had experience the same as at aj's without all the crowds. thankfully on the night there was an hour and half wait we order carry out from the sundae cafe and that has been the best seafood so far!

such a nice quiet place to go for a few drinks and appetizers on the backside of tybee island. the waterfront atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is very friendly. nice place to enjoy yourself and have the option to rent kayaks or water boards! only complaint is that the parking can be a little inconvenient at times.

great weekday lunch we had here. fried shrimp po boy was very tastey in spite of the grocery store roll. gumbo was certainly acceptable and full of chunks of fish, scallops, shrimp, and sausage. wife had grilled chicken sandwich, not bad at all. the river view is awesome. nice trip overall.

*** will never go back to aj's. we love the island but not aj's!

we had a super nice waitress....so we thought... we did not tip the full 15% but close to it. and there was only 2 of us and our waitress did not even bring our food out. well then she chased us to the door to tell us we did not tip enough. let me add that the crab legs i had were over cooked. stingrays crab legs are the best on the island. it was our first visit to tybee and we will never go back due to the unprofessionalism of the waitress.

so much better than the others. head and shoulders above the other, fairly widely-hyped tybee restaurants. our starter course featured big, fresh sweet shrimp blackened and served over creamy grits. corvina with cream sauce was extremely fresh and cooked to flaky perfection. fried flounder and shrimp were exemplary. friendly service and beautiful sunset view from the dock. after having tried two other widely advertised local restaurants, i would not hesitate to recommend that vacationers spend every evening at a-j's instead of wasting money and experiencing disappointment elsewhere.

the view of the sunset was gorgeous. the conch fritters were some of the best i've had. the corvina with creole sauce was delicious and with extra sides could easily have been shared by two people. it was about a mile walk from our hotel and we needed that walk when we were done. the service was very friendly and good. will definitely go back when in the area again.

a friend who is stationed closeby recommended and joined me at aj's. awesome conch fritters, salad, and the best shrimp and grits i have ever had. i only wish it came as an entree and not an appetizer. i loved sitting on the dock as well. great experience.

by far the worst service we’ve had on our visit to tybee island!!! we took a seat inside to avoid the wait and waited for our waitress for drinks and refills all night! thankfully our food was brought out by someone else and we got the opportunity to ask them to get her for us or we may have never seen her!!! i’m giving 1 star because that’s the lowest i can give. to be completely fair the food was good not great but we had to choke half of it down without a drink so it was very hard to enjoy!
