bad food....bad visit. my family was in town for a vacation weekend and stayed out on tybee island. thinking we would get local seafood and a great island atmosphere we tried this restaurant. we were very dissapointed. the food tasted old, the owner was yelling at a server in the dining room and when we complained the owner could not have been ruder. i urge all visitors not to go there.

longest wait ever for food after being seated. i don't have a problem waiting for a table or waiting for quality food. but at some point the wait affects the dining experience. if we had not spoken to our server, i am convinced we would still be waiting for our food 1 1/2 hours after ordering. the volume of seating has overwhelmed the production of the kitchen. they need to fix this issue, unless they are happier with fewer customers. my crab stew and caesar salad with fried oysters was very tasty.

disappointing...to say the least. locals told me it was the place to go; perhaps they need to get off the island and eat at a good restaurant.

my party and i arrived around 8, the tail-end of the dinner rush. we were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait. well, we waited nearly an hour, and they sat a bigger party, that came in after we did, before us.

we decided that everybody would order an appetizer and we would sample they're seafood offerings. we tried ordering a special: fried green tomatoes topped with lump crab, greens and a vinaigrette. the less-than-friendly waitress said they just ran out. ok, what about the conch fritters? they were out of those, too. so, we got an order of the buffalo shrimp, the blackened shrimp and grits, and two plates of french fries. keep in mind, that's two appetizers and two orders fries.

as table after table received food and left, we sat waiting for our small order. after almost an hour it finally arrived. the fries were over-cooked, yet cold, the grits were terrible, the buffalo shrimp was mediocre, and the blackened shrimp was ok. the young lady who brought our food slammed it down on the table and left without asking if we needed anything else. we voiced our complaints to management, but they basically just brought our check and sent us packing.

bad food, even worse customer service, and the seafood tasted like it came from a grocery store in kansas. beware, and eat elsewhere.

one of the worst experiences. not only did we wait forever to get seated, they seated bigger groups before us. then after waiting fifteen minutes just for someone to take our drink orders, we ordered four appetizers. they told us two separate times that they were out of two of our apps. it took us an hour an a half to get appetizers that were pretty horrible. tasted like the "fresh" shrimp came from the frozen isle at publix. it's such a shame it was our first dinner out on vacation. when our food wasn't coming out we asked where it was and the managers/staff were incredibly rude and we ended up having to pay for the food we took maybe one bite of. the expo girl slammed our food down and didn't even ask if we needed anything. i expected more hospitality from people that have a restaurant where people vacation. it was such a terrible time, and i will definitely not recommend this to anyone or go back.

surprisingly good. the dish i tried, spinach salad with added crab cakes, was excellent. the key lime pie was great, with a nice side of lime & whipped cream.
the view was very attractive. we tried the roof top look out dining place, but little bugs (sand fleas?) drove us in. i don't know if those are seasonal, but i'll take insect repellent next time. the view up there was even better than in the restaurant.

amazing view and great soup. aj's dockside was a great little place located on tybee island right outside of savannah. the restaurant is located on the dock of a canal amongst residential homes (when we arrived we almost thought we were in the wrong place until we saw the restaurant sign). patrons can eat inside or out on the dock overlooking the canal and the great view. the crab stew was amazing. i've never had soup with such big fresh chunks before. its a must have if you go here. my husband and a burger and i had a chicken sandwich, both were great!!

the views are great. but i think people on tybee are just too seperated from reality because it's fried food with an occasionally overcooked and tough piece of mahi mahi. this is not fine dining. beers on the dock and an app or two to share are totally worthwhile. calling it fine dining is an insult to those who actually attempt originality and freshness in their cuisine.

nice view, lousy service. this restaurant is very popular with tourists in the summer months because you get to sit on a dock on the back river. i am a local and used to be a fan until i got fed up with the lousy service.

painted skies and good food. it would be difficult to match the ambience offered at aj's. the rustic atmosphere brings the past right into the present. when combined with the view of the marsh and river, as well as one of god's sunset masterpieces, you are provided with "natural diversion" that makes any wait for your table worthwhile. once seated, enjoy any of the numerous menu items (mostly seafood-oriented). the victuals are deliciously prepared and served by a caring wait staff. weather permitting, you may like eating outside. enjoy. side note: it helps to be adept at "creative parking".

rude, rude, rude. managers there were so rude it was unforgivable. the poor waitress was apologising.

the food is fine if you love chewing dried deep fried frozen shrimp.

the view is exceptional, its a pity its wasted on such bad operators.

one of the few savannah area restaurants to face west so great sunsets over tybee creek and little tybee island. typical seafood fare. very busy fri & sat evening, so expect a 60 - 90 minute wait.
