aj's dockside restaurant

all the locals said the seafood was great. apparently they have never been off the island because the whole menu is fried. this is basically an overpriced captain d's.

took family and friends here last night. parking was good as we arrived by boat. food, service, and view were all top shelf.

it was......ok..... i go to tybee island for 2 reasons: the beach & the food!! a savannah resident raved about this place, said i had to go. first of all this place is a pain in the butt to find!! but it had a nice, typical tybee island atmosphere. i ordered the shrimp and grits. don't get me wrong, it was good! i loved the shrimp and i loved the grits! i'm just not sure they worked together, there seemed to be a disconnect, like they belonged in other dishes, but it really was very, very good!! (despite getting only 6 shrimp!!) maybe i'm used to my shrimp & grits in a bowl to fill me up - i ordered fries 'cause i was still hungery! or maybe the taste and presentation seemed more suited for a hotel restaurant, i dunno. i will encourage you to try it for yourself!! go!

food gets a b+. atmosphere gets an a. cool spot

great atmosphere. spinach and artichoke dip was outstanding. service was a little slow, but over all a good experience.

we waited over 2 hours and when we got our meal it was so salty we could not eat it. on a positive note they did not charge for our meal that we took one bite of and comp-ed our drinks that we had waiting for our food. greatly disappointed in a recommended place. we left and went to north beach grill and had a great meal on just the appetizers.

great conch fritters. actually all our food was great. they ran out of flounder tho. shrimp, crabcakes, and scallops were delicious. it will take time to get your food, as it says on the menu. happy hour is from 5 -7 pm. desserts also get thumbs up. our server was friendly and attentive.

slowwww service or should i say no service. took about ten minutes to get our drinks and order our food. then the waitress decided we didn't exist. no more refills until food came out 45 minutes later. then 20% gratuity was tacked on to our bill. for a party of 6. definitely not worth it. go to fannies or crab shack instead.

tucked away in the corner of tybee.... ... is a jimmy buffet-style seafood cantina, with all the cliche nautical decor and landshark beer ads...but the conch fritters, fish tacos, and grilled corvina made this place remarkable. we'll be back.

a local buddy and i sat on the dock, drank cold beer, ate peel and eat shrimp and fried seafood and watched the sun set over the water. tough to beat.

the location is great! the food and service was wonderful. it is a little overpriced but you are paying for the great atmosphere. i would go again for sure!

horrible food and service. absolutely horrible place to eat, i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. the horrible experience starts the second you step foot in the front door; there was an odd and horrible smell throughout the front office and bar area. the wait time was too long with several groups who arrived after ours did, with the same number of people, getting seated ahead of us. when we finally got seated dockside, the service started out good and just took a nosedive off the nearest cliff. half an hour wait for even the drinks and appetizers to get out, and another ten minutes for them to bring the silverware they forgot to bring out the first time. clock in another half hour for them to get our food out, and it seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. while the flounder i had was decent, the hushpuppies were cold and chewy and everyone else's dishes were cold and bland. the only thing this place has going for it is the atmosphere, and unfortunately that's not enough to save this place. avoid aj's like it was the plague

i'm typing this from my dinner table. let me describe the scene: two dozen drunk twenty year olds have been screaming across the dining hall all night and throwing ice at each other. currently, two of the girls are grinding against each other bumping into our table when they lose their balance. they've finished their meals long ago but are still hanging around, annoying every other customer. don't know why no one's taken care of this ridiculous behaviour. food is okay but it's not like i could enjoy it.

great burgers. we have found it almost impossible to get a burger cooked to order here on tybee... most will cook medium well or more.
a. j. 's dockside is a rare exception. we have visited numerous times and have always found our burgers cooked to a perfect medium rare, just as ordered... good atmosphere with nice outdoor seating.
