a brewers tale is pretty much an instagram fixture thanks to thematchahotcakes. inevitably, the taste couldn't quite live up to the plating. my friend thought the dish was pretty average and could've done with morematchaflavour. my ricotta mushroom on toast was better fortunately, with variety of textures and flavours from the quinoa salad, radish slices and beetroot puree. another friend enjoyed her chicken salad which was quite a large serve with a simple mix of green leaves, cherry tomatoes, grilled chicken and a sweetish balsamic vinaigrette. i also had the purple sweet potato latte which was unexpectedly delicious. though it was a bit on the sweet side, i really enjoyed the distinctive flavour which did indeed taste like sweet potato! lovely service with outdoor tables, ideal for people watching. prices are on the higher end but points for terrific plating, large servings, solid dishes and lack of crowds.

this cafe served typical kind of brunch and looks so pretty. try the poke bowl, mushroom on toast, matchapancake, grilled salmon.
poke bowl don’t have sauce so it’s bit dry and don’t have flavors.
mushroom amazing, perfect cook!
matcha pancake, the sauce is so watery and doesn’t tastematchaat all. quiet disappointed.
grilled salmon don’t have any sauce to eat with as well and really plain.

enjoyed thematchahotcakes, they were dense, not too sweet & tasted great with the coconut flakes. mushrooms in the green breakfast bowl were great. friendly service.

this is a nice cafe tucked away off the main streets of darlinghurst that has a nice variety of breakfast and lunch options. the zucchini fritters were alright - was a bit bland but it was very nicely presented. thematchapancakes was definitely the highlight. the whole dish had strongmatchaflavours and wasn’t overly sweet. the earl grey latte was way too sweet but the other speciality lattes were fine and very strong flavours.

zucchini & corn fritters : 😁 great
bircher muesli : 😍 amazing
coconut cold drip : 😍 amazing
matcha latte : 😊 good

when i looked at the menu, i was so torn. i wanted to order everything! from sweet to savoury, i believe there’s something for everyone at the brewer’s tale. the overnight bircher muesli was very refreshing and fulfilling. the corn fritters were great and paired well with the asparagus and beetroot hummus. the coconut cold drip had a very subtle coconut taste that didn’t overpower the coffee but nor did it really stand out. thematchalatte was nice and creamy but unfortunately thematchadidn’t blend well with the milk and there were lots ofmatchapowder sediments at the bottom of the cup which did not have a nice end taste. otherwise, a beautiful cafe that deserves a second visit.

okay service with good food and coffee. the coconut cold drip was really nice and sweet. thematchalatte however was very disappointing. thematchapowder wasn’t mixed in correctly so clumps of bittermatchaformed making it very hard to finish. the food on the other hand was delicious! the bricher muesli was refreshing and super fulfilling topped with one slice of poach pear...the fritters were also good, both fluffy and very fulfilling.

like every picture suggest this place is about as insta-worthy as it gets. the playing and all the colours they use are absolutely gorgeous and thankfully the flavours aren't too bad either.

starting with the drinks the caramel milkshake was stock standard and exactly what you expect so not much to speak about there. the taro latte was nice but a little too subtle on the flavours for me and 90% of what i could taste was just milk which was a shame.

the food itself was alright. with the zucchini dish, the fritters were delicious and easily the best thing on the plate but everything else was just a little bland and didn't add too much to the dish.

thematchapancakes were nice but thematchaflavour was never too apparent with the sweetness of everything else taking the lead instead. not saying everything was too sweet just that thematchawasn't quite there for me.

overall, brewer's tale is a nice cafe and a decent brunch spot but with flavours that are a bit too mild and one note for me.

all of us loved all of our coffees. the fresh fruit juices are great which come in a large portion size. the breakfast plank was good, nothing to complain about, but not the best either. my friend found the chicken salad to be oily, even after asking for the dressings on the side. the fritters are super oily and i cannot honestly say that they were tasty. ricotta mushrooms are not stuffed as it says on the menu but otherwise was happy with that dish.matchahotcakes is supposed to be their specialty but was truly disappointing. amazing service, cozy interiors. so, would go back for the drinks, definitely not for the food.

we ordered matchalatte, corn cake and pancakes. the latte is not as sweet as what cafe shops can offer, and the taste is very authentic. theirmatchapancakes was really really good- both taste and the presentation. suitable for group of people or just two of you wanted a relaxing and cozy afternoon.

don't be fooled
while the menu and website are very appealing. only order if you enjoy receiving your luke warm coffee one per table at a time. thematchapancakes are no signature dish rather a dense and unpleasant experience! same for the french toast. the price tag that follows this unpleasant experience is also enough to send you round the corner for a second breakfast to start your day right.

very disappointing visit to a brewer's tale café. very cold in the cafe accompanied by cold coffees. the coffees and the food came out in drips and drabs. there was twenty minutes between the first and last meal coming out. three of us ordered the french toast which was soggy and didn't taste very nice. one of us had thematchahot cakes which is supposed to be their signature dish but they were dry and inedible. we still had a to pay despite passing our feedback on to the manager.
