dim sum good but.... i was here twice for dim sum last week and i must say, i can't wait until mandarin is open again! food is atyiphong is good... fresh, tasty and well prepared.
service is another story... watched one guy, place a piping hot tea pot within 6 inches of a 1 year old in a high chair... parents quickly moved it ... then he did it again... i think he was high or hung over because he tried to put 2 tea pots on our table for 2 as well and then wandered around aimlessly with it when i told him to take it.
ladies pushing the carts should be concentrating on food... but, to make up for the uselessness of the rest of the serving staff, they have to do everything else as well... clear plates, get sauces, order extra dishes. this all leads to painfully slow cart service -adding to that, they constantly run out of popular dishes by the time they make it to your table! something simple like siu mai never made it as far as our table in the hour we were there... this is not a 'one off' this is my main complaint each and every time i have come here.
now, the bill, every dish is an average of 25-35% higher here... making for a normally $55 bill at any other dim sum place... an $80 bill (with tip) that adds up !
their menu items are tasty as well and are more reasonable at only $1-$2 higher than other places.

dim sum great but bring extra $$. i brought my 5 year old before an appt for lunch last week... he was very excited to try somewhere new for dim sum. the service and frequency of the carts are brutal when you are on a schedule and/or hungry and/or have a child with you that is hungry.
we had the following: chicken feet - very good, sticky rice - good but waaay too expensive for 2 little parcels tripe - greasy but not horrible, siu mai - very good and liked the fish eggs as a topping as a change, rice noodle roll - i liked them but my son said he did not like their sauce as it was not as flavourful, seafood dumpling- average
all this, came to $30 plus tip which i found expensive for the limited dishes we had

holy expensive!. so i gave this place another shot... the dumplings i had were excellent the chicken feet below average and the rice noodle rolls were ok... but service was brutal. 3 carts came by in half an hour... correction... 3 unique carts with different items.
the 3 dishes i ordered was all i had time for after 40 minutes in the restaurant. came to $15 with tip... waaay more expensive than mandarin.

bad service not worth the wait. we came on a sunday for dim sum which of course means a wait for a table.. fine... but waiting for 30 mins for any steamed dishes to get to us is just inexcusable... every cart went everywhere else and by the time it got to our table, they were out of pretty much everything.
plan b, i ordered a sticky rice and siu mai just to keep the kids from crying ... that also took another 10 mins. a few of the dumplings are very very good but some of the other dishes.didn't meet our expectations.
we will stick to the mandarin where we know we get quality and we can get the kids something to eat fairly quickly.
