woodchuck's cafe is generally a greatplaceto go for lunch or breakfast. it is fine for dinner if all you want is a sandwich or burger, but i tend to prefer something a bit more substantial and "dinner-like" for dinner.

service is usually pretty good and the food is usually great. the only reason i'm not giving them 5 stars is that consistency can be a big of a problem. for instance, if you order ham on a regular basis, you never know what you will get - thick sliced, shaved, bits and pieces - who knows? and if you're into presentation at all, forget it. grits dripping down the side of the bowl and home fries hanging  over the side of the plate are the norm. does it affect the taste? not at all, but just be advised - neatness in presentation is not their thing.

one thing they do get an "a" for is the their bathroom - at least the men's. it is always clean and well maintained. i mention this because small, locally owned restaurants often have less than acceptable bathrooms.

while i have my nits to pick, i still recommend woodchuck's as one of the best restaurants of its kind in tally.

it was late but theplacewas so dirty, booth so dilapidated, sitting brought you down 2 inches. food was ok, cold but coffee was good. had white toast so cold and dry, i asked if i could get warm ones and the server said sure, she put them in the microwave 3 seconds. wow!
couldn't touch the table or your fingers stuck there. i don't understand the rating but if you enjoyed it, good for you.

thisplaceis amazing. my boyfriend and i decided to go somewhere different and thisplacereally surprised us. it seems like a hole in the wall but once you're inside it's so cute! they even have an outside seating area. the food was fantastic and the menu has options for all taste buds. best part is that it's super affordable.

pretty good but could be a bit better. i prefer local hole-in-the-wall restaurants so on a trip to tallahassee this weekend i tried out woodchuck's café based on its urbanspoon ratings. my wife had a western omelet that she loved - lots of filling. my sweet potato pancakes were wonderful - flavorful, fluffy, and huge! unfortunately the country ham was only average. my son had the biscuits and gravy. the biscuits were beautiful and fluffy and the gravy was tasty. his only complaint was that he needed more gravy for the size of the biscuits. my only real complaints - they serve margarine instead of butter and coffeemate creamer for coffee instead of half-n-half or cream. these may sound nitpicky - but i feel a wonderful pancake is ruined by margarine and i have noplacein my life for artificial creamer.

i'm about to explode with all this pork goodness inside me.. wait. am i in the right place? this is a gas station, right? well, yes i am. unassuming hole in the wall places are usually my favorite, and woodchuck's certainly did not disappoint. after checking a few yelp reviews, we decided to give this a try.
we were greeted immediately by the friendly staff, and sat at the bar. i was wanting breakfast, but a sandwich called the three little pigs caught my eye. bacon, freshly sliced virginia ham and pulled pork on a potato bun. it was as amazing as it sounds. everything was cooked perfectly. i handed it off to my girlfriend for a bite, and i thought she was going to stab me in the throat with a butter knife when i asked for it back.
we decided on the potato salad, which was delicious with nice pops of garlic. we also added fried okra and corn nuggets, well, because we're destined for fatness. they were fried perfectly golden brown, and tasted like rainbows and dreams.
my girlfriend had the club, which honestly, was pretty boring. could've used more meat, a middle piece of toast, and perhaps something to set it apart from the myriad of other options in tallahassee.
so, in summary, thisplaceis a small, low key dinner that serves up some seriously great food, and i'm looking forward to returning. a homemade cupcake might be in my future, as long as i don't stuff myself with half a pig next time.

yum! why didn't i know about thisplaceearlier?! it's easy to pass unless you happen to need gas at that exact moment (because it's connected to a gas station), buuuut the food and service is amazing. i had the cheddar stuffed woodchuck burger with fried okra instead of fries since fried okra is the best thing in the world. my mom had the breakfast special, chicken on a biscuit with honey butter and home fries. everything was homemade and fresh and delicious. i totally recommend thisplaceand i will be back!

breakfast. i can't speak to the burgers, as that's what most are raving about here.

the omelet i received was just okay. it's nothing fantastic that i would come back for again. have i had better omelets in my life for about the same price? yes. the only noteworthy standout about my meal was the home fries which are sliced very thin and crisp with a smoky garlic flavor. other than the home fries, everything else was just okay.

i would describe the food here, based off breakfast alone, as the "jenny's lunchbox" of west tallahassee. so if you like jenny's lunchbox, you'll probably like thisplacetoo. it wasn't for me though.

yummy. stopped in last rainy friday night- i had stuffed cheddar woodchuck burger, wifey had hamburger steak with gravy and mashed potatoes with (sub for green beans) fried okra. burger came out hot with fresh slices of ripe tomato, fresh green leaf (i think) lettuce, and two sandwich slices of dill pickle. hamburger was hot, with just the right amount of char for flavor. fries cooked to perfection, and were hot and not greasy. wifey's gravy was perfect complement to the potatoes. friendly, clean joint. total bill with us splitting a drink less than $18. thisplaceis going to get crowded fast.
