lets start by saying that i had mixed feelings about wasabi. the 1st time i had gone i just did not like it at a and even gave a rating of 3 to the place. this time around it was a fantastic experience which i enjoyed. it was a fixed 10 course meal paired with japanese whisky. loved the way it was prepared and served. the beauty of japanese food is the way its prepared infront of you. most of the ingredients are imported directly from japan which makes it so expensive but keeping in value and original taste. i would definitely go back again when the opportunity arises.

we went here to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed - easily one of the best meals i've ever had. every single item we ordered (soft shell crab roll, house smoked salmon avocado roll, the justifiably legendary white fish carpaccio, roasted halibut with yuzu foam) was a 10/10. we were too full for dessert (though they gave us a complimentary anniversary cake!). very pricey, but we will be back!

the best dining experience i have ever had. as most of the reviews here have exclaimed: worth every rupee 👍🏻

ambiance : it’s classy. nothing too great about it, except for the spectacular view of arabian sea and gateway of india.

food : perfect. lip smacking. the superior quality is conspicuous. 10/10

service: i was impressed with the knowledge my server had about the intricacies of the dishes. he was courteous, polite and helped us with all the questions we had about sushis and japanese cuisine.

there’s a dish which is roughly named like chicken truffle rice. it’s supposed to be only cooked in truffle oil. but upon request, it came with shaved truffles. they charged nothing for shaved truffles which is very expensive otherwise. i deeply appreciate such kind and thoughtful gesture.

an experience like this definitely prods us to celebrate our most special occasions with wasabi. surely coming here again and i highly recommend this place 😊

i had visited this place with a date. i made a reservation early during the day. keep in mind i do not belong to the group of people who visit a place this fancy often.
i had received a taj experience card which i confirmed will work while making the reservation.

after hearing so much about this place me and my partner were hyped. we dressed up in formals and reached on time.

after taking a small walk around this magnificent taj hotel. we entered the lower bar where we were greeted by a lady and guided to a transparent lift. already feeling the fancy side of life we entered the first floor. the restaurant is small but grand. the ceilings high like the palace within. the place look extravagant and the people working there looked like they take service very seriously.

after being welcomed with a warm smile we guided to a table towards the middle. it was great but my partner and i slowly gazed towards the table by the window directly facing the gateway of india.

when i took a look at at menu i was a little confused as to what to order. i was immediately helped by the server and my partner. i ordered the shrimp with tuna belly sushi and since my date was veg we ordered black garlic with truffle. the service was on time and we were entertained with an mouth cleansing food.

ordering for a drink is difficult as the first drink menu i had only showed japaneese drinks such as sake and rice whiskey which i am not a fan of. i later requested for a drink menu which had all the other drinks.

the sushi really blew my mind away. i could not fathom how complicated and mouthwatering that dish was. i tried the veg as well. it was lovely.

for the mains i decided to try newzeland lamb chops. in veg we ordered for lily bud with truffle. both were unique and the ingredients tasted very rich.

the dessert was chocolate and plum eclair with chocolate ice cream. its was amazing by general standards but when compared to the entire meal the dessert really didn’t stand out like the food

to sum it up it was a 10/10 experience filled with pleasure and great conversation.

wow! absolutely amazing! the white fish carpaccio is out of this world! totally a must visit to all who haven’t been here yet. obviously a little high on your pocket, but what do you expect for quality food. these are the items i had & would rate them out of 5:
white fish carpaccio 5/5
spicy salmon avocado rolls 4/5
spicy tuna roll 4/5
california sushi roll 5/5
rock shrimp tempura 4/5
aburi pork kakuni 4/5
teppanyaki soba noodles 3/5
robatayaki seabass 5/5 - outstanding
our total bill came up to around rs. 24k for 4 people without alcohol, so basically 10k per couple is the average rate for a good meal.
would definitely go back again on a very special occasion soon :)

i came here with my family for my birthday celebration and to day that i had an absolute ball of a time would be an understatement.
the food is lip smacking, so precise and such a brilliant balance of flavours!
we ordered vegetarian tasting menu and had some soup, appetisers and sushi.
we weren't disappointed at all and everything went above and beyond our expectations. the staff is extremely polite and very helpful.
the pastry they gave me to cut was so tasty and it was topped with a macaroon, fresh blueberries, cranberries and raspberries!
beyond happy to have had such an experience!
definitely, 100% coming back!

we needed a real japanese fix - this is the place!

although the restaurant was packed in the end we managed to get in without a table booking.

we enjoyed every course. we had a bottle of their nz red that wasn’t on the wine list and every drop was delicious. hospitable waiting staff.

we shall be coming back!

worth every penny. this is as close to as it gets to ‘authentic’ japanese food.. each and every dish was truly a work of art. we had rock shrimp tempura tossed in spicy wasabi mayo and chicken nanban in leek sauce. for entree we ordered panko truffle lobster and grilled chicken teriyaki. sakura peach compote is a must try for dessert. definitely visiting again.

worth.every.penny

this restaurant is everything, when it comes to trying out the japanese cuisines.
the soft shell crab sushi, which was recommend is amazeballs!
we had a variety of dishes, shrimps, lobsters.
*i cannot really compare the food, since this was the first time i tried the japanese cuisine, and i have never been to any other restaurants for the same* (sorry for that)
the presentation was definitely great but the taste was even greater!
the desserts were a treat to the eye as well as to the taste buds.
totally worth it :)

beware – month-old sushi – seriously!!!

month-old sushi…possibly longer. yes, i am serious. time for all wasabi fans in mumbai to find a new sushi joint. read on…

i am a regular customer of wasabi, and have always received amazing service and great sushi…as one should for a meal that generally runs nearly $100 per person.

my last visit, on may 5th, 2018, the sushi did not taste fresh. i asked the manager how often the restaurant gets fresh sushi…he said twice a week. given that fresh sushi only retains any semblance of freshness for 24-72 hours (if carefully refrigerated), this seemed odd to me for a high-end sushi restaurant, but i resigned myself to – in future – picking my sushi nights to coincide with the arrival at wasabi of fresh fish.

so, in mid-july, i called the restaurant and asked for a manager. they put one on and i asked when the next shipment of fresh fish was due. he said…and i kid you not…in mid-august. i told him that was impossible...that sushi only lasts a few days. he said, “we carefully handle our sushi.” i said all the handling in the world wouldn’t keep sushi fresh for a week, let alone a month. he then explained that there was a customs snafu that was keeping them from getting fresh sushi. i asked when the last shipment of fresh sushi had arrived…he said two weeks ago. i asked how they could stay open serving two-week old sushi…he repeated that they “know how to handle sushi.” i explained that the only responsible thing to do was to close the restaurant during this period…keeping it open was reprehensible, and possibly a serious health risk to customers.

i tried to report this to the gm of this hotel before posting this but he did not respond.

this is delayed by a week but absolutely essential that i write!

i believe food is one of those elements of life, experiences with which evolve you in many ways. my job is soon going to move me out of mumbai, and i went to wasabi to celebrate (the new job but definitely not the moving away!). that was not just a meal. it was a rare experience having the perfect sushi looking over the beautifully lit gateway of india monument, cradled by the rising waves of the brimming arabian sea. i fell in love!

i am going to miss mumbai for so many things and wasabi will definitely be somewhere at the top of the list.
