trip to 'uruka' was much awaited as i had heard about the outlet from many people including my mom. so this time, on my brief visit to guwahati i decided to try out the place.

the entrance to the restaurant was really nice with motion sensor doors , followed by a warm greeting from the staff which is 90 % female. these are two unique things which you don't generally come across a restaurant and that too in guwahati. we had the privilege of the meeting the owner miss priyanka who was very warm and curteos throughout the whole evening.

the ambience of the restaurant was a mix of modern and ethnic, with the concept of a live grill on the table and a buffet spread. the concept too was a unique one in terms of traditional assamese restaurants. the cutlery was of kaanh in assamese i.e. bell metal and was well polished.

coming to the food for starters they had mixed sweet corn , prawn cutlet, deep fried paneer tikka , deep fried chicken tikka , small fish fry. the fish and the chicken were served on the live grill and the rest were served normally. also these were served with one mustard chutney and pudina chutney.

for the main course they had plain rice, yellow dal, mix veg , baingan bharta, fried brinjal, small potato fry, matar paneer, black dal, chicken curry with potatoes, fish in bhedailota saag. there were various other condiments like dry fish cutney, salad, mahor guri, bambooshoot pickled in bhootjolokia oil etc

overall i would say it's a decent place i.e. above average. the concept is good but a lot can be worked on in terms of food. an alacarte should be introduced with other variants of assamese food items as not everyone would prefer a buffet always. also in buffet we could have few more variety in terms of starters and specially in veg. also the pricing should vary i.e. for veg and non veg accordingly, people would prefer that.

all and all it's a good start and i would wish team uruka all the very best for their journey in the food sector. looking forward to new changes as well.

cheers !!

we felt like eating and being at home..all foods had the original taste..this is called ethnic assamese taste...simple food but healthy...the hospitality of the staff reminded us of attending old marriage, where all the family members come and ask to have some more..another thing we noticed that the serving staff include assamese ladies in assamese attire, which is different from others...

the starters are really good but i think they can improve the main course. otherwise its a nice place and is good for family parties. the staff was really helpful and the ambience is also very good. but i suggest you spend more time on the starters than on the main course.

uruka is a unique assamese restaurant. to be frank their food is the best restaurant assamese food i've ever had. the taste the flavor everything was great. they have a buffet system with starters like amlokhi juice with is really unique and it tastes really good. along with it they have prawn cutlets, chicken fry etc. main course was really homely and tasted really good. they had payokh for the dessert. the ambience is really unique. the staff and the owner's service were really nice and they make you feel very comfortable. you really should visit this restaurant if you want to have a good assamese meal.

probably one of the best restaurants i have i have ever been to. i live in new zealand and i have been to many restaurants in many countries.

the food was great with a lot of variety and everything was made in assamese style with no other north indian spices. this is the kind of food that you you would get only in an asamese house and nowhere else.

the hospitality was great. they have special flash light if you want to take pictures with friends.

i was touched by the fact that they did not have tamul paan ( betel nut) at the end, as is expected from a complete assamese restaurant experience, because it is bad for health.

if you want to try asamese food, you must visit this place.

liked the variety as well as taste of the main course items...authentic assamese delicacy... however the starters were just ok...nothing special... the prawn pokora were disappointing...paneer pokora and boiled corn 🌽 were good.. chicken pieces were wrapped with a very thick coating of cornflour/maida...overall good..... will visit again...

i went around 1.20pm..and this was my first visit..we were the first customer for the day..i was wondering why not a single customer except us..but within half and hour,i see the restaurant was full..coming to food let me tell u don't expect something special, fascinating food, its jst a simple homely food which we assamese have it at home..i must say taste is really gud..i am overwhelmed by the gestures of the owner and staff..the owner is so humble, they were taking care of each and every customer just like the way you do when you invite guest in your home for lunch/dinner.such a lovely homely behaviour..👍
and paperless bill receipt, much appreciate..they sms you the bill instead of printed receipt. now lets talk about food
1.welcome drink i.e amlokhi juice...akonman keha dei..everybody may not like it.but good for health.
2.as starter they serve sweet corn, paneer dry fry, prawn fry, then comes the barbeque style fish and chicken fry ..i liked all of these..its taste was really gud.
3.main course, there are so many stuff..must admit bhoot jolokia pickle is mind blowing...i had rice with sabzi, daal, chicken curry and chicken with kosu sabzi.salad.tasted all different types of pickles.. what i didn't like is the chicken curry..chicken was not gud..otherwise not a single issue ...
4.dessert- there is kheer and watermelon..kheer was yummy..
you can also have tea, coffee. i choose to have it next tym...
📷 are uploaded as per description..
hope you will like it too....

a very confused amateur effort at presenting assamese cuisine . the management needs to understand the difference between hospitality and intrusiveness.how can you get assamese food wrong ? the chicken curry was the saving grace the rest were so ordinary! 500/- per person too steep for the quality of the fare dishes out
